Nonprofit ExecuCve Directors wear many hats and have lots of responsibiliCes. Between the
work of the mission, balancing mulCple budgets, running a staff, working with a board and
volunteers, raising money and so much more it can be a thankless and exhausCng job. It can
also be just as rewarding when you can be a part of a well run organizaCon that makes a
difference in a community or region.
Today we are going to have a conversaCon with a nonprofit execuCve director and discuss the
roles, responsibiliCes and the challenges of leading an organizaCon.

Michael Firpo- Execu7ve Director
Mike is a Fresno County naCve and has been a Golf Professional since 1993.
Mike was a member of the Golden State and Texas Mini-Tours from 1993 through
1995. He was named Ping Club-FiJer of the Year in 1997, and in 2003 our local
PGA chapter honored him for his work with junior golf. Since 2000, Mike has
been involved with teaching the game of golf on a full-Cme basis to people of all
ages, but with a specialty in developing junior programs and curriculum suited for
the youth of Central California. As head coach of the Bullard High School
Boys’ Golf Team from 2003 - 2008, Mike worked hard to return integrity to his
alma mater and in the process his teams won several Area Championships.
Mike was instrumental in bringing The First Tee to Fresno because of his belief
that junior golf, and its inherent values, was not being offered to all children. Mike
has been involved with every facet of The First Tee and its creaCon here in
Fresno.

Mike believes golf presents the perfect vehicle to teach character-development and
life-enhancing values to children, because each child is entrusted with monitoring
his or her own score. Honesty is an integral part of the game and Mike believes this
presents an excepConal opportunity to teach the Nine Core Values of The First Tee
program: Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility,
Perseverance, Courtesy, & Judgment.
Mike is commiJed to the success of The First Tee of Fresno, and introducing the
wonderful
game of golf to the children of the greater Fresno area.
Since May 31, 2008 when The First Tee of Fresno held its very first class, the program
has grown from impacCng 150 kids that first year to over 25,000 kids impacted
annually as of 2015.
