This presentation discusses containers and their advantages over virtual machines. It defines containers as a method of operating system-level virtualization that allows for multiple isolated user space instances. Containers are more lightweight than virtual machines since they do not require a hypervisor and boot much faster. Popular container platforms discussed are Docker, Linux Containers (LXC), and Rocket. Use cases of containers include running different software versions, providing development environments, optimizing resource utilization, and hosting web applications. The presentation concludes by suggesting containers will be widely used to run cloud applications and all web apps in the future.
