It provides a centralized resource for container image discovery, distribution, and change management. Typical development involves testing changes, review by DevOps engineers, collecting and transforming data to build and deploy models. Infrastructure as code manages infrastructure through code instead of manually, creating reusable abstractions that can be shared and previewed before deployment through flexible CLIs integrated with CI/CD workflows while auditing all changes and implementing policies and controls for complex managed environments. Pulumi has components for resource definition using imperative programming, testing, and secret management.

Docker has the potential to revolutionize how we build, deliver, support and even design software. But it doesn't have to be a violent revolution. The end goal might be breaking your existing ASP.NET monolith into microservices which run cross-platform on .NET Core, but the first step can be as simple as packaging your whole .Net Framework application as-is into a Docker image and running it as a container.
In this session, we'll take an existing ASP.NET WebForms application and package it as a Docker image, which can run in a container on Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10. We'll show you how to run the app and a SQL Server database in Docker containers on Windows, and how to use Docker Compose to define the structure of a distributed application.
Then we'll iteratively add functionality to the app, making use of the Docker platform to modernize the monolith without a full rebuild. We'll take a feature-driven approach and show you how Docker makes it easy to address performance, usability and design issues.y and design issues.

At GE Digital, in the Asset Performance Management space, we need to supply an edge solution that impacts both on-premise and data transmission to the cloud. Our current edge solutions are relatively simplistic, but as our technologies mature along with our customers’ needs, we’re finding that we need to grasp a more fog computing-based approach where we include more intelligence, more computing power, at the edge. Along with this computative power, we need to better remotely manage these systems – to be able to monitor progress and diagnose problems – a technology that would enable us to containerize, to better manage, our software bundlings and deployments.
We found that Windows Docker seemed to fit the bill -- much of the technologies that live at our edge solutions are Windows OS based (as the customers’ main platforms are Windows OS based). This presentation reviews the approach that we took to repackage one of our main APM on-premise solutions using Windows Docker. We’ve created a prototype which we’re looking forward to productize and enable the capability of remote management to thousands of deployments.
The presentation also contains a video demo of the running system. The on-prem APM system will demonstrate the usage of Docker networking along with docker volumes and three (3) docker containers – will discuss the construction of the images, and nuances, of execution of the running docker containers.

Mark Hinkle is the Senior Director, Open Source Solutions at Citrix Systems Inc. He joined Citrix as a result of their July 2011 acquisition of Cloud.com where he was their Vice President of Community. He is currently responsible for Citrix open source efforts around the open source cloud computing platform, Apache CloudStack and the Xen Hypervisor. Previously he was the VP of Community at Zenoss Inc., a producer of the open source application, server, and network management software, where he grew the Zenoss Core project to over 100,000 users and 20,000 organizations on all seven continents. He also is a longtime open source expert and author having served as Editor-in-Chief for both LinuxWorld Magazine and Enterprise Open Source Magazine.
