A Balanced Routing Algorithm for Blockchain Offline Channels using Flocking

This document proposes a flocking-based routing algorithm for offline blockchain channels to balance load. It converts channels to nodes in a network and assigns coordinates. Channels move away from overused channels (repulsion zone) and toward underused channels (attraction zone). The coordinate updating process aims to evenly distribute channel usage. Evaluation on Bitcoin Lightning Network data shows the algorithm maintains low standard deviation of channel balances compared to shortest path routing and completes more payments with shorter paths on average.

“Using truck sensors for road pavement performance investigation” is a research project within TRUSS, an innovative training network funded from the EU under the Horizon 2020 programme. The project aims at assessing the impact of the condition of the road pavement unevenness and macrotexture, on the fuel consumption of trucks to reduce uncertainty in the framework of life-cycle assessment of road pavements. In the past, several studies claimed that a road pavement in poor condition can affect the fuel consumption of road vehicles. However, these conclusions are based just on tests performed on a selection of road segments using a few vehicles and this may not be representative of real conditions. That leaves uncertainty in the topic and it does not allow road mangers to review the current road maintenance strategies that could otherwise help in reducing costs and greenhouse gas emissions from the road transport industry. The project investigated an alternative approach that considers large quantities of data from standard sensors installed on trucks combined with information in the database of road agencies that includes measurements of the conditions of the road network. In particular, using advanced regression techniques, a fuel consumption model that can take into consideration these effects has been developed. The paper presents a summary of the findings of the project, it highlights implications for road asset management and the road maintenance strategies and discusses advantages and limitations of the approach used, pointing out possible improvements and future work.

Abstract: Considering data from 260 articulated trucks, with ∼12900 cc Euro 6 engines driving along a motorway in England (M18), the study first shows how different approaches lead to the conclusion that road pavement surface conditions influence fuel consumption of the considered truck fleet. Then, a multiple linear regression for the prediction of fuel consumption was generated. The model shows that evenness and macrotexture can impact the truck fuel consumption by up to 3% and 5%, respectively. It is a significant impact which confirms that, although the available funding for pavement maintenance is limited, the importance of limiting GHG emissions, together with the economic benefits of reducing fuel consumption are reasons to improve road condition.

Creating a Hydrological Network for the Yukon Territory

The Fisheries Information Summary System (FISS) is a Federal and Provincial geo-database that provides summary level, fish and fish habitat information for waterbodies throughout the province of British Columbia. Information is georeferenced using online digitizing tools and is linked to the BC 1:50,000 watershed atlas using a hierarchical watershed coding system. Using FME, a similar watershed atlas was created for the entire Yukon Territory at a fraction of the cost and time using the Horton Order transformer and other tools. The resulting intelligent hydrolgical network is now available for the Yukon through the Community Mapping Network at www.cmnbc.ca. We will describe some of the challenges encountered in the creation of the hydrological network and provide and overview of the new Yukon FISS system.

This paper presents a novel scheduling algorithm to support quality of service (QoS) for multiservice applications over integrated satellite and terrestrial networks using admission control system with multipath selection capabilities. The algorithm exploits the multipath routing paradigm over LEO and GEO satellites constellation in order to achieve optimum end-toend QoS of the client-server Internet architecture for HTTP web service, file transfer, video streaming and VoIP applications. The proposed multipath scheduler over the satellite networks advocates load balancing technique based on optimum time-bandwidth in order to accommodate the burst of application traffics. The method tries to balance the bandwidth load and queue length on each link over satellite in order to fulfil the optimum QoS level for each traffic type. Each connection of a traffic type will be routed over a link with the least bandwidth load and queue length at current time in order to avoid congestion state. The multipath routing scheduling decision is based on per connection granularity so that packet reordering at the receiver side could be avoided. The performance evaluation of IP over satellites has been carried out using multiple connections, different file sizes and bit-errorrate (BER) variations to measure the packet delay, loss ratio and throughput.

Dynamic Manycasting in Optical Split-Incapable WDM Networks for Supporting High-Bandwidth Applications Jeremy Plante, Arush Gadkar, and Vinod Vokkarane Department of Computer and Information Science, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, MA Email: {jplante, agadkar, vvokkarane}@umassd.edu Abstract—With the advent of bandwidth intensive applications, the demand for manycast networking capabilities has become an essential component of wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical networks. Traditionally, the manycast functionality is accomplished by splitting a signal all-optically, thereby creating a light-tree, which originates from the source node and reaches a subset of the destination nodes. To support the manycasting functionality in an optical network that is Split-Incapable, i.e., the optical cross connects are incapable of switching an incoming optical signal to more than one output interface, one must implement a logical overlay to the underlying optical layer. A naı̈ve approach to accomplish this is by creating a set of unicast lightpaths that originate at the source node and terminate at a subset of the destination nodes of the manycast request. However, for a large number of requests this approach leads to a poor utilization of network resources. To overcome this problem, we propose two overlay approaches: Manycasting with Drop at Member Node (MA-DAMN) and Manycasting with Drop at Any Node (MA-DAAN). In these solutions, we achieve manycasting by creating a set of lightpath routes (possibly multiple hops) in the overlay layer. We consider a dynamic traffic model and propose efficient heuristics to solve the MA-DAMN and MA- DAAN problems with a goal of minimizing the total number of wavelengths required to satisfy the requests. Moreover, we present a simple heuristic to approximate the unicast approach of the naı̈ve method. Our results demonstrate that both the overlay approaches reduce the wavelength consumption by ap- proximately 33 − 45% over the naı̈ve manycasting via WDM unicast approach for real-world large-scale networks.1 Index Terms—Manycasting, WDM, Overlay, Lightpath Routes, Split-Incapable, O-E-O. In Multihop Wireless Networks, traffic forwarding capability of each node varies according to its level of contention. Each node can yield its channel access opportunity to its neighbouring nodes, so that all the nodes can evenly share the channel and have similar forwarding capability. In this manner the wireless channel is utilized effectively, which is achieved using Contention Window Adaptation Mechanism (CWAM). This mechanism achieves a higher end-to-end throughout but consumes the network power to a higher level. So, a newly proposed algorithm Quadrant- Based Directional Routing Protocol (Q-DIR) is implemented as a cross-layer with CWAM, to reduce the total network power consumption through limited flooding and also reduce the routing overheads, which eventually increases overall network throughput. This algorithm limits the broadcast region to a quadrant where the source node and the destination nodes are located. Implementation of the algorithm is done in Linux based NS-2 simulator

Multichannel MAC protocols have become a design choice of wireless access networks as they increase the achievable throughput. However, the implementation of a common control channel has been a challenge. The common control channel challenge has not been investigated in opportunistic networks where the availability of medium is temporary and unpredictable. The uncertainty of the availability of the channel coupled with the common control channel challenge makes this area an interesting research topic. Unfortunately, this challenge requires further investigation in Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks (CRAHN), a promising next generation technology. The challenge makes an interesting study in CRAHN given the opportunistic access and use of channels. Given a hypothetical spectrum hole of any size coupled with the implementation of a control channel in a multi-channel environment, how much of good put can be realized and be effectively utilized for data transmission. We investigate the common control channel challenge in CRAHN through network simulations. The opportunistic nature of CRAHNs in the presence of the common control channel challenge is investigated. The simulation results show that the combination of the control channel challenge and the size of the spectrum hole degrade gracefully the network. Furthermore, the size of the spectrum hole has a bearing on good put. The results show that a big hole improves performance. Unfortunately, the opportunistic attribute of CRAHNs does not guarantee desirable spectrum holes.

ACHIEVING ENHANCED THROUGHPUT IN MOBILE ADHOC NETWORK USING COLLISION AWARE M...

Since wireless medium is high demand resource the design of an efficient medium access protocol is important for Mobile Adhoc Networks. As MAC is the base layer in the protocol stack a performance gain in this layer will have significant improvement in the overall performance of the network. Since the current IEEE 802.11 MAC standard is not adaptive to the network scenario its performance is poor in terms of throughput, fairness and delay. Although several alternatives to the existing standard is proposed many of them are not satisfactorily address the key issues of keeping the simplicity of the protocol and avoiding the overhead on the nodes on duty in emergency situations where usually adhoc networks are applied. In this paper we propose an adaptive, collision aware MAC protocol for wireless adhoc networks, termed the Collision Based Contention (CBC) protocol, in which depends on the current collision level on the shared medium contending nodes dynamically decides its Backoff value to avoid a blind random waiting before access to the medium. The CBC scheme outperforms the BEB scheme employed in the IEEE 802.11 MAC standard and other competing proposals.

Hybrid networks are next generation of wireless networks that could be a combination of Mobile wireless adhoc (MANET) networks and Wireless Infrastructure networks. They are increasingly utilized in wireless communications that are extremely supporting real time transmission with restricted Quality of Service. Invalid reservation and race condition issues happens in MANET. In existing system, QoS-Oriented Distributed routing protocol (QOD) is employed to boost the QoS support capability of hybrid networks, it transforms the packet routing problem to resource scheduling problem that has 5 algorithms. They are, QoS guaranteed neighbor selection algorithm, Distributed packet scheduling algorithm, Mobility based segment resizing algorithm, Traffic redundant elimination algorithm and Data redundancy elimination based transmission algorithm. The main drawback of hybrid networks is so far examined in minimum transmission hops and has less beneficial feature with restricted number of mobile access points, mobility speeds, and mobile workloads and with different network sizes. It will extremely perform on random way point model and less in real mobility model. This paper present Data Transparent Authentication to authenticates data streams by adjusting interpacket delay. Data Transparent Authentication while not Communication overhead is an approach which reduces breakdown of original information or sends out of band authentication data.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction. This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability. Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots. The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee. • The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act. • The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X. • The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
