This document discusses the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in the education sector, identifying both challenges and opportunities. Key challenges include ensuring governance focuses on improved outcomes rather than just technology investments, addressing inequalities between schools, and overcoming resistance to change from "old school" ways of thinking. However, ICT also provides opportunities such as personalized learning, continuous assessment to accelerate progress, breaking down barriers to access education, and developing skills sought by employers. While technology is part of the solution, ICT alone will not improve attainment and a holistic approach is needed.
