Shifting into a Jet Age
Gurukul
While shifting to Jet Age Gurukul…
First year preaching may happen in a store front.
To have students move into a student center is also an economic consideration
• Rent, study facilities, book tables, study room, 3 times prasadam.
Some colleges allow students to stay out and they don’t need to pay the college for the hostel and mess (cafeteria). Thus,
they can pay our student centers.
Some colleges do not allow this. Paying the college for hostel and mess is compulsory. That is a challenge for a preacher–
an economic consideration:
Ex: 20 boys shifting x 5000 rupees per month = 100,000 rupees need to be spent from the preacher side.
Economic considerations…
Challenge for a preacher:
• Ex: 20 boys shifting x 5000 rupees per month =
100,000 rupees need to be spent from the preacher
side to accommodate students in a center. Else,
students will stay in the college hostel and eat in
cafeteria.
Economic considerations…
Youth preaching involves good amount of money in the first 5-6
yrs. Later, we will get results and returns.
In some colleges, all boys stay outside and not in the college hostel.
So in that case its easy, as they will pay for everything. just get a cook
from Mayapur or somewhere. So not much economic consideration.
Accommodating newly moved in students
Suppose 15 boys have moved in after the Utkarsh camp.
We give them 2 months to get adjusted to the morning program culture, which is different
from the hostel culture.
We have to respect them despite their sluggishness for some time.
They bring in frivolity, rock music, misuse of the Internet, quarrelsome nature, no
devotional clothing sometimes, too much sleeping…rajo and tamo guna.
Accommodating newly moved in students
Have clarity on the good habits they need to cultivate. Lectures telling them that this is the
temple culture.
Else, they can stay outside and come for the morning program.
Greedy preachers may want to take in 20-30 students of not so good quality. They will give
him a headache. Clarify expectations plainly and courageously. Only whoever is willing should
be encouraged.
Vaishnava culture among seniors
Seniors should be cultivating vaishnava behavior.
Most important is not finding faults.
If one facilitator is finding fault in another, juniors will be bewildered and disoriented.
Learn the art of cleaning the heart by chanting intensely and avoiding fault finding. Pure devotees never do
this.
• very advanced platform.
Our stage-prajalpa-useless talks, argumentation, fault finding, blasphemy-Bhakti Vinod Thakur in Bhaktya loka.
Vaishnava culture among seniors…
If preachers are not of good character-they will produce similar
results. Ex: Brahma telling Rudra to procreate - who produced only
ghosts, hobgoblins who were devouring everything. Brahma
stopped him. Told him to meditate in the forest and will be called
during destruction. Similarly preacher and seniors not endeavoring
to clean their hearts, not seeing good potential in upcoming
devotees, rather fault finding, blaspheming-dangerous tendencies.
Vaishnava culture among seniors…
What is the culture among one another? Priti-lakshanam-forgive one
another when mistakes are committed. Keep aside false ego and co-
operate for SP’s pleasure. Ego will not help us run this movement further.
Training the preachers and facilitators in Vaishnava behavior is very
important for them to hold those who have come to take shelter.
Do not overload the students
Morning program (MP), studies, preaching…may cause overloading. Need to be balanced.
Person in-charge of study should ensure studies of 10, 13, 16 hours weekly in Jan, Feb and
Mar or July, Aug, Sept. As exams are closer, number of study hours increases. Person in-
charge of study is a devotee professor in a college
MP in-charge ensures good MP of all devotees
Do not overload the students
Preaching Coordinator- who sends devotees out
Have balance of all three—MP, studies, and preaching
PM or OC ensures the balance-then parents and students are
happy and thus paropakar (benefit to others) happens
Pay attention to vital departments
Health is first priority. Have a health room
Kitchen is vital. Bad quality prasadam brings everything
to a halt. Attention to cook needs to be given
Pay attention to vital departments
Altar is very important- The Lord should not be displeased because of
uncleanliness- decorate nicely, bhoga needs to be offered on time
Altar and MP should be powerful. Academics need to be paid attention
to by the leaders. If students don’t perform well, we lose them.
Academics and MP equal weightage--then it’s a healthy center
Performance appraisal of inmates
Regular appraisal of inmates’ progress
OC-10 point criteria assessment. How are they fairing?
Special prize for 14 qualities like humility, cleanliness…to
encourage them and for others to imbibe the same
Performance appraisal of inmates
Inspire them to live like Vaishnavas
Inter VOICE visits. They get to see MP; it increases awareness and
enthusiasm, and learning experience.
3rd-4th year students- take them on an outdoor yatra to holy places,
discourses…
Secrets of a flourishing student center…
Jet Age Gurukul is like a family-encouraging
one another, appreciating one another,
tolerating inconveniences, discomforts,
practicing KC blissfully, happily situated
devotees.
Secrets of a flourishing student center…
Krsna would like to reside in such a place, which is
free from fault finding, where people appreciate one
another, encouraging, focused in spiritual life, staying
together like Pracetas, who were appreciated by Lord
Vishnu more for their cooperative mentality of doing
devotional service together than for their austerities.

8 shifting into_jet_age_gurukul[1]

  • 1. Shifting into a Jet Age Gurukul
  • 2. While shifting to Jet Age Gurukul… First year preaching may happen in a store front. To have students move into a student center is also an economic consideration • Rent, study facilities, book tables, study room, 3 times prasadam. Some colleges allow students to stay out and they don’t need to pay the college for the hostel and mess (cafeteria). Thus, they can pay our student centers. Some colleges do not allow this. Paying the college for hostel and mess is compulsory. That is a challenge for a preacher– an economic consideration: Ex: 20 boys shifting x 5000 rupees per month = 100,000 rupees need to be spent from the preacher side.
  • 3. Economic considerations… Challenge for a preacher: • Ex: 20 boys shifting x 5000 rupees per month = 100,000 rupees need to be spent from the preacher side to accommodate students in a center. Else, students will stay in the college hostel and eat in cafeteria.
  • 4. Economic considerations… Youth preaching involves good amount of money in the first 5-6 yrs. Later, we will get results and returns. In some colleges, all boys stay outside and not in the college hostel. So in that case its easy, as they will pay for everything. just get a cook from Mayapur or somewhere. So not much economic consideration.
  • 5. Accommodating newly moved in students Suppose 15 boys have moved in after the Utkarsh camp. We give them 2 months to get adjusted to the morning program culture, which is different from the hostel culture. We have to respect them despite their sluggishness for some time. They bring in frivolity, rock music, misuse of the Internet, quarrelsome nature, no devotional clothing sometimes, too much sleeping…rajo and tamo guna.
  • 6. Accommodating newly moved in students Have clarity on the good habits they need to cultivate. Lectures telling them that this is the temple culture. Else, they can stay outside and come for the morning program. Greedy preachers may want to take in 20-30 students of not so good quality. They will give him a headache. Clarify expectations plainly and courageously. Only whoever is willing should be encouraged.
  • 7. Vaishnava culture among seniors Seniors should be cultivating vaishnava behavior. Most important is not finding faults. If one facilitator is finding fault in another, juniors will be bewildered and disoriented. Learn the art of cleaning the heart by chanting intensely and avoiding fault finding. Pure devotees never do this. • very advanced platform. Our stage-prajalpa-useless talks, argumentation, fault finding, blasphemy-Bhakti Vinod Thakur in Bhaktya loka.
  • 8. Vaishnava culture among seniors… If preachers are not of good character-they will produce similar results. Ex: Brahma telling Rudra to procreate - who produced only ghosts, hobgoblins who were devouring everything. Brahma stopped him. Told him to meditate in the forest and will be called during destruction. Similarly preacher and seniors not endeavoring to clean their hearts, not seeing good potential in upcoming devotees, rather fault finding, blaspheming-dangerous tendencies.
  • 9. Vaishnava culture among seniors… What is the culture among one another? Priti-lakshanam-forgive one another when mistakes are committed. Keep aside false ego and co- operate for SP’s pleasure. Ego will not help us run this movement further. Training the preachers and facilitators in Vaishnava behavior is very important for them to hold those who have come to take shelter.
  • 10. Do not overload the students Morning program (MP), studies, preaching…may cause overloading. Need to be balanced. Person in-charge of study should ensure studies of 10, 13, 16 hours weekly in Jan, Feb and Mar or July, Aug, Sept. As exams are closer, number of study hours increases.
