This document outlines 8 Aboriginal Ways of Learning as a framework for developing Indigenous Cultural Competence in teaching. It describes 8 pedagogical approaches derived from Aboriginal traditions: Story Sharing, Learning Maps, Non-Verbal Learning, Symbols and Images, Land Links, Non-Linear Learning, Deconstruct/Reconstruct, and Community Links. These approaches emphasize narrative, visualization, hands-on and kinaesthetic learning, symbolism, place-based knowledge, lateral thinking, holistic understanding, and connecting learning to real-world contexts and communities. The document argues that incorporating these Aboriginal learning techniques can help validate Aboriginal culture and enhance learning for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students.
