Resume Writing and Interview Skills Overview:
DOs and DON’Ts
Why have a resume & cover letter?
Coverletter
First impression
Your writing ability
Intro to who you are
Shows you are serious about the opportunity
Intrigues the employer to want to know more
It sets up the follow-up
Resume
Expand on who you are
What makes you right for the position
Highlight your skills
You have worked hard to develop and know they will be an asset
Illustrate your achievements
Brag on yourself, but not too much
Elements of a Cover Letter
ADDRESS your cover letter to a REAL PERSON! Do your best to find out TO WHOM you should address your cover letter. “Dear Manager” is lifeless.
OPEN with an attention-grabbing first sentence to really grip the reader. This approach will almost guarantee your cover letter and resume get a much closer look.
REMEMBER — Less is MORE! The best cover letters have plenty of white space. Clear, focused, short and sweet gets the interview every time.
FOCUS on what you can do for the employer. How can you benefit the company specifically? Do a little research and relate this value-added simply and clearly in your letter.
CHOOSE WORDS that show enthusiasm and passion for the position you seek … (big, big secret!)Then, carry this passion into the interview with you.
REQUEST ONE ACTION you want the employer to take: “I would really like the opportunity for a personal interview this week.” (You never know until you ASK)!
END your cover letter with enthusiastic and telling verbiage, such as, “I look forward to being interviewed at your earliest convenience. Thank you so much for this opportunity. Sincerely, Jane

An objective statement is optional. It can be helpful if it is clear and focused, and not broad. Example: “Seeking a position as a Financial Analyst utilizing quantitative, research and technical skills.”
Qualifications and Experience
Summary of Qualifications or Highlights of Accomplishments
While not commonly used by undergraduates, the goal of this section is to capture immediate employer interest. Highlight strengths or relevant expertise. Writing a summary section can be very useful in thinking about your key strengths. It also prepares you to talk about yourself in an interview. Those in career transition from the academy to an outside position may find this section beneficial.

Physical Identity Or Mirroring Analysis:

Resume Writing: There are 3 types of resumes from which u can chose. Firstly,
1.Target Resume
2.Functional Resume
3.chronological resume
Brief explanation on each type of resume, Target resume, is the most modern, time-saving and to the point
type of resume, from the perspective of 21st
century thinkers and the emergance of new Industries like call
center/BPO/KPO/RPO. In the career objective column, a fresher can the mention the type of industry that
he would like to be associated with and for experienced professional who are looking at lateral level
positions can also use this type of resume. For example: To excel in the field of Callcenter/BPO/KPO/RPO.
To Excel in the role of Asst.Manager/Manager.
Functional resume rearranges employment history into sections that highlight areas of skill and accomplishment.. Use
functional resumes to point out your skills over your specific employment history. You can showcase the
work experience that is most important to your career objective. The functional resume can be used to
minimize employment gaps. It highlights more relevant skills instead of position titles. This type of resume
may work best for first-time job seekers, those reentering the workforce after a long break from
employment, or those changing careers. But are free to use Target resume if they want to.
Chronological resumes present information in a timeline approach. Typically, the most recent work or
educational experience is listed first, followed by the next most recent. This is the most common type of
resume. It illustrates how you have made progress towards your career objective through your employment

history. A chronological resume is best if you have demonstrated experience within your desired career field.
It highlights the positions you have held and the companies for which you have worked.
Body Language: Your dress will determine your confidence level. So always have 2 separate pairs of dress
exclusively for attending Interviews. Use pleasant deodorants; have well groomed hair, and neat shave. Use
right postures in front of the interviewers and have eye contact while talking.

Emotional Identity or Devil and Deep blue sea
Topics: Awareness with regard to Company profile, Position, Job Profile.
There are 9 types of emotions(love, laughter, compassion, anger, Heroism, Fear, Disgust ,awe, peacefulness)
(Nava Rasas) in a person, so u have the choice to make, if you lack awareness with regard to company
profile, position and job profile you will look confused, sad, sick etc., when you face the Interviewer. So it
very important for you to ask the consultant or HR of the company for details. The best way to know about
the company and position is go to their URL (website) . Once you are equipped with appropriate information,
you will confidently face the Interviewer with Smile (one of the emotions). Emotional imbalance is also one
of reasons why you get rejected in HR round of interview.
Conclusion: You can carry a smile only if you’re prepared.

EGO Identity OR Autumn
Topics: EGO, Cross-Culture
The feeling of “I”ness is called EGO. We will deal EGO from the interview perspective. The interviewee
shouldn’t have a feeling that he is superior or inferior to the Interviewer. There should be mutual respect
each other.
Cross culture - Fresh graduates attending interview especially in IT/ITES segment are required to understand
that they will be required to work in U.S/U.K shifts. Which means you need understand their Geography,
Timezone, Behaviour, attire, Culture, accent, Traditions, value system, Technology, Economic background
(GDP- Per capital income, Standard of living, Economic Feasiblility ) etc and eligible holidays also. By
understanding the above, you can relate to customer better. If not learned may lead to EGO clashes with the
customers.
Conclusion: E-GO – E -stands for Electron – Negative in nature -----GO. Negative should GO. We shouldn’t
think that we are working for some other country and develop hatred for their customs and traditions rather
embrace them without altering your own inborn culture and traditions.

Social Identity or Circle of Life
Topics: Group Discussion
It has become order of the day for the fresh graduates to know about group discussion
techniques. Today if you walk-in for an interview either in IT or ITES companies, group discussion
round has become imperative assessment technique to choose right candidates.
Learning how to participate in a group discussion may be one of the most important skills you
acquire in college. It will be an asset in any course and in your professional career. Here are some
tips on improving discussion techniques: It will be an asset in any course and in your professional
career. Here are some tips on improving discussion techniques:
1. Be Willing to Speak in Public. Good discussion depends on the lively participation of all
group members not (as often happens) on the participation of a vocal few. Many students
do not join discussion because they are afraid to speak in front of the class. To take an
active role in your education, you must learn to overcome "speech anxiety." Stop thinking of
public speaking as performance and start thinking of it as communication. Most audiences
are more interested in hearing what you have to say than in evaluating how you say it.
2. Be Willing to Listen. No one can participate in-group discussion who doesn't listen
attentively. A good listener knows it is important not only to attend to what he or she is
saying, but to understand why he or she is saying it. The most valuable result of attentive
listening is that it leads to one element most open and lively discussion depends on: good
questions.
3. Be Willing to Examine all Sides of a Topic. Good discussion techniques require that we be
patient with complexity. Difficult problems rarely have obvious solutions. Complex topics
are multifaceted; they demand to be turned over in our minds so that we can see them from
6. 7- Identities to a sucessful interview and Job
a variety of angles. Group discussion, because it provokes a number of divergent
viewpoints, is an excellent way to broaden our perspectives and deepen our insight into
complex ideas and issues.
4. Be Willing to Suspend Judgment. Class discussion is best conducted in an open-minded and
tolerant spirit. To explore ideas and issues in a free and open manner, you will need to
develop receptivity to the opinions of others even when they contradict your own. The goal
of group discussion should be to pen up a topic so that everyone in the group can hear a
wide range of attitudes and opinions. This does not mean that you shouldn’t form a strong
opinion about a topic; rather, it encourages you to be aware of rival opinions. An opinion
formed without awareness of other points of view -- that has not been tested against
contrary opinions -- is not a strong opinion, but merely a stubborn one.
5. Watch out for your Body language, emotions and voice, it should be too loud or mellow, it
should be audible for that u need to understand aesthetics of group discussion room.
Conculsion : We are all made up of the same 5 elements ( Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Ether,) remove any kind

Different jobs need different brains. For example Software engineer or for that matter all technical
related jobs need 70% left brain and 30 % Right brain. Suppose if you’re applying for a software
engineer position at an MNC they would assess your skills through aptitude test which comprises
numerical ability, arthimetical ability, for that u need a strong left brain and they will also have a
Essay writing, Passage Reading , Puzzles for which you need a strong right brain. So you need to
work both your left and right brain when u are preparing for a written test.
Some of the frequently asked questions by Human resource Team.
Q. Tell me something about yourself ?
A. They are trying to check whether you are able to put things in the right format or sequence,
which is a left brain aspect and they also check your verbal ability, Interpersonal,
Intrapersonal & body language skills which is a right brain aspect .
Q. Where do you see yourself 5 yrs from now ?
A. From the Left brain perspective you need to understand the organisational structure of the
company, for example if you join in as software trainee you need atleast 1Year to be
software engineer, so to be a Senior Analyst/ Sr.Software engineer it would take at 5yrs to
move up the organisational chart . From the right brain perspective you need to answer
anything true to your potential & imagination “may be on the other side of the table” or
“CEO” or start a company etc. “Remember there are no boundaries for imagination”.
Conculsion : You need to use both left and right brain to be successful in any endeavour. For that u need to understand
the functions of the left and right brain. Remember “ growth is from transcation to transcendental”.

What is Archetypal or Ikon ?
Goal orientation ?
IKON or Archetypal Identity
Ikon or what we call Archetypal Identity - anytime a person or Character is “bigger than life” we are seeing
the enactment of an archetype. Archetypes can be seen in today’s movie, soap operas, modern gurus etc. In
other words archetypes are life models, images and ideas that guide the direction of your life toward your
soul’s ultimate destiny.
Goal orientation : Setting apprioriate goal is very important for candidates especially during
degree/Engineering /Post –graduation because that will determine the IKON that you are going to choose.
For example MBA student with specialization in Human resource Management should choose a
person, image,,slogan etc. which acts as catalayst to reach the actual career goal. The hypothical goal here is
to be Head-HR of a Multinational company or to be HR – consultant for MNCs, so he can look-up to Person or
guru like Peter Drucker, slogan like ; it is not Human resource management but it is human response
management, Image could be like the aforesaid picture 1.
Above Identity will help u in answering various questions during HR round of interview.
1. Where do you see yourself after 5 yrs?
2. what are your strengths ?
3. Why should I hire you ?
