Identidad sexual
La identidad sexual incluye la manera como la persona se identifica como hombre o mujer, o como una combinación de ambos, y la orientación sexual de la persona. Es el marco de referencia interno que se forma con el correr de los años, que permite a un individuo formular un concepto de sí mismo sobre la base de su sexo, género y orientación sexual y desenvolverse socialmente conforme a la percepción que tiene de sus capacidades sexuales.
Se nace hombre o mujer, es decir, con un sexo determinado que se desarrolla para que pueda realizar ciertas tareas biológicas que son distintas para los hombres y las mujeres en lo que se refiere a la reproducción. Pero también nos desarrollamos como personas con identidad sexual recibiendo las indicaciones del mundo que nos rodea sobre cómo “son o deben ser” los hombres y las mujeres, como deben comportarse, relacionarse entre sí o enfrentar la vida.
Después del nacimiento, la identidad sexual se va construyendo y modelando, dependiendo de múltiples factores, como la relación con la madre, el padre y/o ambos, la familia, la escuela, los/as amigos/as, los medios de comunicación y el ambiente social y cultural en el que se vive. Todos estos factores influyen en cómo se va aprendiendo a ser mujer y hombre ya que las niñas y los niños reciben diferentes mensajes que les transmiten lo que es femenino y lo masculino. Esto no tiene necesariamente que ver con las funciones biológicas, sino con las ideas y valores de nuestra cultura.
La orientación sexual es parte de cada persona, y consiste en la atracción emocional, intelectual, física y sexual que una persona siente por otra. La orientación sexual es el resultado de un proceso en el que intervienen múltiples factores, como el género, la familia, la cultura, la personalidad, etc. y se desarrolla a lo largo de toda la vida de la persona, es decir, las personas se dan cuenta en diferentes momentos de sus vidas si son heterosexuales, homosexuales o bisexuales.

Border towns and spaces of (in)visibility.pdf
This report explores the significance of border towns and spaces for strengthening responses to young people on the move. In particular it explores the linkages of young people to local service centres with the aim of further developing service, protection, and support strategies for migrant children in border areas across the region. The report is based on a small-scale fieldwork study in the border towns of Chipata and Katete in Zambia conducted in July 2023. Border towns and spaces provide a rich source of information about issues related to the informal or irregular movement of young people across borders, including smuggling and trafficking. They can help build a picture of the nature and scope of the type of movement young migrants undertake and also the forms of protection available to them. Border towns and spaces also provide a lens through which we can better understand the vulnerabilities of young people on the move and, critically, the strategies they use to navigate challenges and access support.
The findings in this report highlight some of the key factors shaping the experiences and vulnerabilities of young people on the move – particularly their proximity to border spaces and how this affects the risks that they face. The report describes strategies that young people on the move employ to remain below the radar of visibility to state and non-state actors due to fear of arrest, detention, and deportation while also trying to keep themselves safe and access support in border towns. These strategies of (in)visibility provide a way to protect themselves yet at the same time also heighten some of the risks young people face as their vulnerabilities are not always recognised by those who could offer support.
In this report we show that the realities and challenges of life and migration in this region and in Zambia need to be better understood for support to be strengthened and tuned to meet the specific needs of young people on the move. This includes understanding the role of state and non-state stakeholders, the impact of laws and policies and, critically, the experiences of the young people themselves. We provide recommendations for immediate action, recommendations for programming to support young people on the move in the two towns that would reduce risk for young people in this area, and recommendations for longer term policy advocacy.

- 1. COUNTY OF ORANGE HEALTH CARE AGENCY REGULATORY HEALTH SERVICES ANIMAL CARE SERVICES Number: 700.15 SUBJECT: DISPOSITION OF ANIMALS WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS Page: 1 Date: 9/14/01 Approved: Jennifer Phillips, Director Revised: 4/2/07 I. PURPOSE To establish a uniform procedure for the disposition of animals with medical problems. II. POLICY Orange County Animal Care Services’ (OCACS) pro-life, pro-adoption philosophy encourages the adoption of impounded animals, including those with conditions which may require follow-up or continued medical treatment(s). By law, approved rescue groups may claim any animal prior to euthanasia. Adoptability to the public shall be determined based on a medical review by an OCACS Veterinarian and a temperament review by supervising kennel staff. III. SCOPE Applicable to all OCACS Veterinarians and supervising kennel personnel. IV. FORMS Medical Waiver V. REFERENCES California Food and Agriculture Code 31108, Impound Holding Period for Stray Dogs. California Food and Agriculture Code 31752, Cats: Impound Holding Period. VI. DEFINITIONS Not applicable. VII. PROCEDURE Following the initial or subsequent physical examinations, the OCACS Veterinarian shall place the animal with the identified medical condition in one of following categories. A. Not Recommended for Adoption (NRA) Animals with severe medical or temperament issues such as significant genetic defects, vicious behavior, zoonotic diseases, etc shall be categorized as NRA.

COUNTY OF ORANGE HEALTH CARE AGENCY REGULATORY HEALTH SERVICES ANIMAL CARE SERVICES Number: 700.15 SUBJECT: DISPOSITION OF ANIMALS WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS Page: 2 Date: 9/14/01 Approved: Jennifer Phillips, Director Revised: 4/2/07 1. Veterinary staff shall have the authority to use this category based on medical assessment. 2. Supervising kennel staff shall have the authority to use the category following temperament assessment. 3. An animal with a NRA designation not redeemed by its owner may be euthanized. 4. An approved rescue organization may claim any animal prior to euthanasia. B. Treatable Medical Condition or Adoption Partner Candidate (APC) An APC designation shall be reserved for animals with medical problems or conditions that are treatable or may need follow-up care to prevent complications. These conditions may include, but are not limited to, ear mites, pregnancy, flea bite dermatitis, kennel cough, URI, broken limbs, etc. 1. The nature of the condition, treatment prescribed, and dates for treatment review shall be recorded in the Chameleon Treatment Window by veterinary staff. 2. Animals that can be treated by veterinary staff shall receive treatment prior to being made available for adoption or being released to an approved rescue organization for further treatment. 3. Available animals that have been treated for medical conditions by veterinary staff shall display “Before” and “After” cage card photos, explanations of the treatment provided to the animal, and comments from authorized staff regarding personality traits or temperament of the animal. 4. Potential adopters of animals with current or chronic medical conditions shall be advised of the conditions, counseled by a veterinarian, and sign a medical waiver acknowledging the medical condition and their medical and financial responsibilities as an adopter. 5. In cases (e.g. URIs) in which an animal may fare better in a private home rather than at OCACS, the OCACS Veterinarian may prescribe medication to be sent home with the adopted animal . 6. If an adopted animal develops an illness or becomes worse within one week of adoption, the adopter may bring the animal to OCACS for treatment. 7. An adopter may return an adopted animal to OCACS within 30 days for any reason and exchange it for another animal.
