This document discusses the multimedia and contiguity principles of instructional design. The multimedia principle states that using words and graphics together improves learning compared to words alone. The contiguity principle recommends placing corresponding words near related graphics on the same page to reduce cognitive load on the learner. Examples are provided to illustrate how these principles can be applied, such as placing text directly below images, rather than separating text and images across pages. Assessments are included to test understanding of when images do and do not apply these principles.
