LESSON?
The SMART Board Lesson I’ve selected from the website is titled
“Koosh Ball Sight Words.”

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE
LESSON?
The purpose/ aim of the lesson is to introduce and review high-
frequency words to kindergarten students. This falls within the
subject of language arts.
Examples of words:
“there”
“when”
“your”
WHAT MAKES THIS A SMART BOARD
LESSON?
Students interact with the SMART board lesson by
“popping” colorful circles which then reveals the sight
words.
HOW CAN A TEACHER ADAPT THIS
LESSON FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE
AUDITORY LEARNERS?
This lesson is very “visual.” Students
each have their preferred method of
learning. If students are auditory
learners, there are a few methods to
assist in teaching this lesson. One
way is called “Spell Reading.” This is
where the students first say the
word, spell out the letters, and then
rereads the word.
HOW CAN A TEACHER ADAPT THIS
LESSON FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE
AUDITORY LEARNERS?
Another method is simply
repeating the sight words
out loud, over and over.
Auditory learners can
truly benefit from
repetition.

LESSON FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE
AUDITORY LEARNERS?
Lastly, another way is called
“Corrections Procedure.” If a
student is having trouble or
makes a mistake pronouncing a
sight word, try using this
technique. Teachers clearly state
and reinforce the correct word
pronunciation several times.
Then, have the students practice
that one specific word. Hopefully,
students can hear and now apply
the correct pronunciation when
learning.

  • 5. HOW CAN A TEACHER ADAPT THIS LESSON FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE AUDITORY LEARNERS? This lesson is very “visual.” Students each have their preferred method of learning. If students are auditory learners, there are a few methods to assist in teaching this lesson. One way is called “Spell Reading.” This is where the students first say the word, spell out the letters, and then rereads the word.

Lastly, another way is called “Corrections Procedure.” If a student is having trouble or makes a mistake pronouncing a sight word, try using this technique. Teachers clearly state and reinforce the correct word pronunciation several times. Then, have the students practice that one specific word. Hopefully, students can hear and now apply the correct pronunciation when learning.
