There are several typologies that attempt to categorize and compare cultures: 1) Edward Hall distinguished between high-context and low-context cultures, where high-context cultures communicate more implicitly and low-context cultures more explicitly. 2) Geert Hofstede studied IBM employees worldwide and identified five dimensions of national culture: power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism vs collectivism, masculinity vs femininity, and long-term orientation. 3) Florence Kluckhohn and Fred Strodtbeck proposed several orientations for analyzing cultures, such as human nature, relation to environment, social relationships, and time orientation.
