Pre-adulthood is a period amid which an adolescent realizes who he is and what he truly feels. It is a significant time for youngsters to build up their ability for compassion, conceptual thinking and future time perspective; a period when the close and dependent associations with parents start to offer approach to more extreme relationship with peers and different adults. Adolescence is the most vulnerable stage to the emotional issues, thus teaching adolescents about emotions and how they manage others and their activities can be exceptionally useful in their day by day battles and maintaining good relationships. The present study was undertaken to compare the emotional intelligence of tribal and non-tribal adolescents of Kashmir. Stratified random sampling technique was employed to select the adolescent students from the different high schools of Anantnag and Kupwara districts of Kashmir. Mangal, and Mangal emotional intelligence inventory was employed to collect data for emotional intelligence. Independent samples t-test was used to analyse the data. The results were found that the tribal and non-tribal adolescents differ significantly on the measure of emotional intelligence at 0.01 level of significance. Non-tribal adolescents showed a higher level of emotional intelligence than tribal students. Further the study revealed that there exist no significant difference between the male and female adolescents

ABSTRACT: Spiritual Intelligence and Social Adjustment are the two psychological constructs, which scaffold each individual in the modern world to lead a value-oriented and mentally healthy life. This study aims to investigate the level of spiritual Intelligence among higher secondary students in relation to their social adjustment. For this purpose, data collected from 320 higher secondary students from various higher secondary schools of Thrissur district. The tool used for the collection of data was a Spiritual Intelligence Inventoryand Social Adjustment for higher secondary students, developed by the investigator and standardized. The results revealed that higher secondary students are having low level of Spiritual Intelligence. There is no significant difference in the Spiritual Intelligence among higher secondary school boys and girls. Rural andGovernment higher secondary school students are having a higher level of Spiritual Intelligence than Urban and Private school students are.Spiritual Intelligence and Social Adjustment are highly correlated. This study suggested that the school authorities should take immediate measures to provide adequate training for developing Spiritual Intelligence and Social Adjustment in them.

Present study reports the impact of personality traits and emotional intelligence on Hindi and English medium students. The study was conducted on 110 higher secondary school students located in Indore city in Madhya Pradesh.In present system of education in India as well in globe, is putting the future of pupils in a raise where everyone would be searching for a path of success with low efforts. But then we would be in the struggle of dissemination of sweetness and light to develop his personality with an apt balance of emotional intelligence and competence. The students play no active role in the attainment of knowledge. His entire education is becoming passive and mechanical. Things are loaded on his mind which he cannot digest without strong emotional intelligence, he only crams and therefore they never become his own, which at the end puts him in the struggle for his academic achievement.To bring the pupils in the certainty of successful academic achievement it is highly important to develop their personality with emotional intelligence including stress handling instinct. The present study aims to find out the level of social intelligence and metacognition of adolescents and the
correlation between social intelligence and metacognition of adolescents. Since it is a fact-finding
an expedition, survey method was adopted by the investigator. Stratified random sampling techniques of 120
adolescents falling in the age group of 18-20 years were taken for this investigation. The above samples
were taken from the undergraduate students who are studying in two Government arts and science colleges
in Tiruchirappalli District which are the Colleges, affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli,
Tamil Nadu, India, of whom 69 are boys and 51 are girls. Special attention was given to such factors as
gender and subjects. Social Intelligence Scale is developed and validated by the investigator (2011) and
Metacognition Inventory by Punitha Govil (2003) was used to collect the data. The data are analyzed by
percentage analysis, mean, standard deviation, ‘t’ test, and correlation. The findings of the study results
reveal that (i) the 54.2 percent of adolescents have a high level of social intelligence and 67.5 percent of
adolescents have a moderate level of metacognition, (ii) there is a significant difference between boy and girl
adolescents with regard to social intelligence and its dimensions namely social information processing,
social awareness and social skills (iii) there is no significant difference between boy and girl adolescents
with regard to metacognition and its dimensions such as regulation of cognition and knowledge of cognition
(iv) there is a significant difference between arts group and science group adolescents in their social
intelligence and in their metacognition, (v) there is no significant relationship between social intelligence
and metacognition of adolescents with regard to boy, arts group and science group respondents, but there is
no significant relationship between social intelligence and metacognition of adolescents with regard to girl
respondents.
Differences in Emotional (Affective) Intelligence among Gifted and Ordinary S...inventionjournals
This study aimed at identifying emotional intelligence Levels among gifted and ordinary students as well as finding wether there were differences among these students. The study was conducted on a sample of (100) ordinary and gifted eight graders at thaled bin al-waleed and king Abdullah II excellence schools at Irbid governorate, where (50) students from each school were selected. Data were collected using a researcher based on Goleman (1983) model, developed questionnaire. Results showed that emotional intelligence level among gifted students was high, however, among ordinary students, emotional level was moderate. Results also showed statistically significant differences in emotional intelligence levels between ordinary and gifted students where gifted students outperformed their ordinary partuers in this intelligence. The study also included some suggested recommendation.
Protective Factors Determine Resilience in Madurese Ethnic Adolescentinventionjournals
: living in the center of drug circulation and use is the highest factor possibly influencing that adolescents in madura are easily involved in drug use. Some factors to protect adolescents from getting involved in drug abuse are needed. Based on this phenomenon, this research aims at analyzing the influence of protective factors determining resilience of Madurese ethnic adolescents living in the environment of high-risk drug abuse. Parents‟ role, emotion control, religiosity, and self esteem of Madurese ethnic called „Ajina aba‟ as the mediator variable are the protective factors that would be tested for their influences toward resilience. The research subjects were obtained through purposive sampling with 356 adolescents of Madurese ethnic living in the area of high-risk areas of drug abuse, born and living in Madura, with parents of native Madurese. SEM was used for analyzing the data. The result of this study suggested that there is no direct influence of parents‟ role toward resilence, but parents‟ role has positive influence toward resilience when the mediator variable is the self esteem of Madurese ethnic. There is positive influence of emotion regulation toward resilence. Other result showed that there is negative influence of religiosity toward resilience when directly associated. However, religiosity has positive influence when the self esteem of Madurese ethnic is used as mediator variable. In addition, the self esteem of Madurese ethnic was proven to be mediator variable and has positive influence toward resilience. This result implies that parents‟ role, emotion regulation, religiosity, and self esteem of Madurese ethnic are protective factors that can be used as guide in designing program to prevent drug abuse by Madurese ethnic adolescents
Comparative Personality Sketch of Middle Aged Male and Female Counterparts Hi...inventionjournals
The aim of the present study is to make a comparative personality profile in the light of anger expression, narcissism and happiness among middle aged males and females. A sample of 100 middle aged individuals (50 males and 50 females) was selected. The variables selected for the study were anger expression, narcissism and happiness. Results indicate that happiness and narcissism both are positively correlated and basically self-love is found to be a basic source of happiness for both subsamples. Moreover, significant differences were found in case of anger expression and overall narcissism. Male counterparts were positioned at the top point of narcissism and anger expression and lack anger control but females have more anger out, anger reaction, superiority and vanity than male ones which pinpoints the fact that females tend to invest a great deal of energy in maintaining and preventing the experience and expression of anger. While controlling anger is certainly desirable, the over-control of anger may result in passivity, withdrawal and depression.

with regard to metacognition and its dimensions such as regulation of cognition and knowledge of cognition
(iv) there is a significant difference between arts group and science group adolescents in their social
intelligence and in their metacognition, (v) there is no significant relationship between social intelligence
and metacognition of adolescents with regard to boy, arts group and science group respondents, but there is
no significant relationship between social intelligence and metacognition of adolescents with regard to girl
respondents.
Differences in Emotional (Affective) Intelligence among Gifted and Ordinary S...inventionjournals
This study aimed at identifying emotional intelligence Levels among gifted and ordinary students as well as finding wether there were differences among these students. The study was conducted on a sample of (100) ordinary and gifted eight graders at thaled bin al-waleed and king Abdullah II excellence schools at Irbid governorate, where (50) students from each school were selected. Data were collected using a researcher based on Goleman (1983) model, developed questionnaire. Results showed that emotional intelligence level among gifted students was high, however, among ordinary students, emotional level was moderate. Results also showed statistically significant differences in emotional intelligence levels between ordinary and gifted students where gifted students outperformed their ordinary partuers in this intelligence. The study also included some suggested recommendation.
Protective Factors Determine Resilience in Madurese Ethnic Adolescentinventionjournals
: living in the center of drug circulation and use is the highest factor possibly influencing that adolescents in madura are easily involved in drug use. Some factors to protect adolescents from getting involved in drug abuse are needed. Based on this phenomenon, this research aims at analyzing the influence of protective factors determining resilience of Madurese ethnic adolescents living in the environment of high-risk drug abuse. Parents‟ role, emotion control, religiosity, and self esteem of Madurese ethnic called „Ajina aba‟ as the mediator variable are the protective factors that would be tested for their influences toward resilience. The research subjects were obtained through purposive sampling with 356 adolescents of Madurese ethnic living in the area of high-risk areas of drug abuse, born and living in Madura, with parents of native Madurese. SEM was used for analyzing the data. The result of this study suggested that there is no direct influence of parents‟ role toward resilence, but parents‟ role has positive influence toward resilience when the mediator variable is the self esteem of Madurese ethnic. There is positive influence of emotion regulation toward resilence. Other result showed that there is negative influence of religiosity toward resilience when directly associated. However, religiosity has positive influence when the self esteem of Madurese ethnic is used as mediator variable. In addition, the self esteem of Madurese ethnic was proven to be mediator variable and has positive influence toward resilience. This result implies that parents‟ role, emotion regulation, religiosity, and self esteem of Madurese ethnic are protective factors that can be used as guide in designing program to prevent drug abuse by Madurese ethnic adolescents
Comparative Personality Sketch of Middle Aged Male and Female Counterparts Hi...inventionjournals
The aim of the present study is to make a comparative personality profile in the light of anger expression, narcissism and happiness among middle aged males and females. A sample of 100 middle aged individuals (50 males and 50 females) was selected. The variables selected for the study were anger expression, narcissism and happiness. Results indicate that happiness and narcissism both are positively correlated and basically self-love is found to be a basic source of happiness for both subsamples. Moreover, significant differences were found in case of anger expression and overall narcissism. Male counterparts were positioned at the top point of narcissism and anger expression and lack anger control but females have more anger out, anger reaction, superiority and vanity than male ones which pinpoints the fact that females tend to invest a great deal of energy in maintaining and preventing the experience and expression of anger. While controlling anger is certainly desirable, the over-control of anger may result in passivity, withdrawal and depression.

academic achievement of the college students in Jammu. The main objectives of the study were
(i) to highlight the present status of colleges in Jammu, (ii) to investigate the behaviour of the
college teachers in Jammu (iii) to examine the academic achievement of the college students as a
result of teacher’s behaviour (iv) to highlight the causes which affect academic achievement of
the college students (v) to sort out the relationship between the teacher’s behaviour and
academic achievement (vi) to recommend strategies for the improvement of teachers behaviour.
All the working college teachers along with the students of colleges were the population of this
study. A random sampling technique was used for selection of the sample. Public colleges were
included in the sample, further teachers and students from each college were also randomly
selected as the sample of the study. Two questionnaires, one for college teachers and other for
college students were developed for the collection of data. Collected data were tabulated
analyzed and interpreted in the light of objectives of the study by applying statistical tools of chisquare
and Pearson’s Product – Moment coefficient of correlation(r). The level of significance

The present study aims to find out the relationship between Self – Efficacy, Achievement Motivation and Attitude towards Teaching of Prospective Teachers. For this purpose a sample of 290 Prospective teachers was randomly selected from colleges of Education in Navi Mumbai of Maharashtra state. The study reveals that there is positive co relation between Self- Efficacy and Attitude towards Teaching of Prospective Teachers. But it is not significant at 0.05 level of significance. There is negative co – relation between Achievement Motivation and Attitude towards teaching of Prospective Teachers and also not significant. Male and female Prospective Teachers differ significantly in their Self –Efficacy but not in their Achievement Motivation and Attitude towards Teaching.

In the present study an attempt has been made to find out the relationship between emotional intelligence (4dimensions i.e. ability to express and appraise emotions, utilize emotions, manage emotions in self and in others.) and teaching aptitude of school teachers. In addition to this the emotional intelligence of male and female private and government school teachers were also compared. The sample comprised of 200 subjects (50 male + 50 female private school teachers and 50 male + 50 female government school teachers) of District Bhiwani Emotional intelligence scale developed and standardized by Pandey and Anand was used to measure the emotional intelligence. Teaching aptitude test battery constructed and standardized by R.P. Singh was used. Results indicate that three dimensions of E.I. (i.e. ability to express feeling, ability to utilize emotions and ability to utilize emotions in self) shows significant difference among private and government school teachers. There exists significant difference between teaching aptitude of private and government school teachers. Three exists positive correlation between emotional intelligence and teaching aptitude school teachers.

A STUDY OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AMONG TRIBAL AND NON-
TRIBAL ADOLESCENTS OF KASHMIR

conceptual thinking and future time perspective; a period when the close and dependent
associations with parents start to offer approach to more extreme relationship with peers and
different adults. Adolescence is the most vulnerable stage to the emotional issues, thus
teaching adolescents about emotions and how they manage others and their activities can be
exceptionally useful in their day by day battles and maintaining good relationships. The
present study was undertaken to compare the emotional intelligence of tribal and non-tribal
adolescents of Kashmir. Stratified random sampling technique was employed to select the
adolescent students from the different high schools of Anantnag and Kupwara districts of
Kashmir. Mangal, and Mangal emotional intelligence inventory was employed to collect data
for emotional intelligence. Independent samples t-test was used to analyse the data. The
results were found that the tribal and non-tribal adolescents differ significantly on the
measure of emotional intelligence at 0.01 level of significance. Non-tribal adolescents
showed a higher level of emotional intelligence than tribal students. Further the study
revealed that there exist no significant difference between the male and female adolescents
on the measure of emotional intelligence in tribal group. Whereas, there was significant
difference between emotional intelligence of non-tribal male and female adolescents.

of personality and importance in their lives (Erickson 1968).Youth today are living in
nervousness – ridden environment: "an age of uneasiness". The all pervasive environment
urges young people continually to think about themselves, hence the new era needs to live,
eat and inhale rivalry which makes them defenceless against the dangers of different
psychosomatic issues. As to present emotional condition of youths, Goleman (1995) refered
to that " there is a world-wide trend for the present generation to be more troubled
emotionally than the last; more lonely and depressed; more angry and unruly; more impulsive
and angry and more nervous and prone to worry”. With the mushrooming of so many of
multinational organizations with well-paid salary, the demand for people with delicate
abilities like the capacity to impart, advance collaboration, present thoughts, take care of
issues and oversee tasks and individuals has emerged. Presently it is accepted that inside of a
man's delicate abilities lies his true intelligence and this intelligence is characterized as
emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is the ability to monitor one’s own and others
feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide one’s
own thinking and action (Salovey and Mayer 1990). In another definition Emotional
intelligence (EI) is the ability to recognize one's own and other people's emotions, to
discriminate between different feelings and label them appropriately, and to use emotional
information to guide thinking and behaviour. (Coleman, 2008). Adolescence is the most
vulnerable stage to the emotional issues, thus teaching adolescents about emotions and how
they manage others and their activities can be exceptionally useful in their day by day battles
and maintaining good relationships. At the same time, if tribal adolescents are looked at,
which are significant parts of Indian populace, the condition is tragic. The tribals are
financially poor, uneducated and are less presented to the modern world. Being the
aboriginals of the nation, they have a peculiar way of life. Lamentably the detachment has
kept them out of mainstream and made them simple prey to misuse and when they are
compelled to coexist with the standard society, they don't get adjusted easily. Lack of
education and hardships that these tribals confront because of destitution may bring about
disappointment both in individual and also social relationships in this way bringing about
poor self-concept and low self-esteem. With numerous reservations and projects propelled for

tribal groups for upliftment and to bring them into the mainstream, the emotional intelligence
i.e., the capacity to get adjusted with new individuals and new circumstances should be
addressed and reinforced. In this way the present study was undertaken to assess the level of
emotional intelligence the tribals so that the positive things of their way of life could be
enhanced and the hardships could be recognized so that they could get amalgamated with the
mainstream. The Daniel Goleman's book on emotional intelligence (1995) has prompted
multiple utilization of emotional intelligence in business, industrial training, and education.
Emotionally intelligent behaviour is wise behaviour. To act wisely requires the synergistic
impact of the emotional mind with the cognitive mind. Thinking and feeling are not
absolutely independent things, and emotionally intelligent behaviour requires a congruity of
the two minds. The emotional mind makes numerous constructive contributions to scholastic
accomplishment, mental and physical wellbeing.
Objectives of The Study
The following objectives were formulated for the purpose of proposed investigations.
To compare the emotional intelligence of tribal and non-tribal adolescents of Kashmir.
To compare the emotional intelligence of male and female adolescents of Kashmir.
To compare the emotional intelligence of tribal male and non-tribal male adolescents of
Kashmir.
To compare the emotional intelligence of tribal female and non-tribal female adolescents of
Kashmir.
Null Hypotheses
Ho 1. There is no significant mean difference between tribal and non-tribal adolescents of
Kashmir on emotional intelligence.
Ho 2.There is no significant mean difference between male and female adolescents of
Kashmir on emotional intelligence.
Ho 3.There is no significant mean difference between tribal male and tribal female
adolescents of Kashmir on emotional intelligence.
Ho 4.There is no significant mean difference between non-tribal male and non-tribal female
adolescents of Kashmir on emotional intelligence.
Method of Research: The sample of the research study included tribal and non-tribal
adolescent (male/female) students of 9th
class in Government schools of Anantnag and
Kupwara Districts of Kashmir India, during the academic year of 2013-2014. The
investigator visited three educational institutions of district Anantnag and Kupwara and
collected the data through stratified random sampling technique. The total number of 564

students was selected out of which 286 adolescents belonged to tribal and 278 belonged to
non-tribal communities. The sample was collected by using stratified random sampling
technique. The measuring tool for emotional intelligence in this research study was Mangal &
Mangal Emotional Inventory (2012). It has four dimensions: intra-personal awareness
(knowing one’s own emotions) inter-personal awareness (knowing about others emotions),
intra-personal management (managing one’s own emotions) and inter-personal management
(managing others emotions). In order to analyze the data in the light of the objectives and
hypotheses framed for this study the mean, SD and independent samples t-tests, were applied.

Kashmir. It is clear from table 1 that non-tribal adolescents had higher (73.91) mean score in
emotional intelligence scale compared to (71.03) tribal adolescents, which was found to be
statistically significant using independent samples t-test (t = 4.44, 562 df, p < 0.01). It
indicates that non-tribal students possessed high emotional intelligence as compared to tribal
students (See figure 1). Therefore, the null hypothesis 1 stands rejected.

It is clear from table 2 that male adolescents had higher (73.05) mean score in emotional
intelligence scale compared to (71.78) female adolescents, which was found to be
statistically insignificant using independent samples t-test (t = 1.951, 561 df, p < 0.05). It
can be said that there exists no significant difference between the male and female
adolescents under study on emotional intelligence measure (See figure 2). Here we fail to
reject null hypothesis 2.

mean score in emotional intelligence scale compared to (72.4) female adolescents, which was
found to be statistically significant using independent samples t-test (t = 3.109, 276 df, p <
0.01). It can be said that there exists significant difference between the non-tribal male
students and non-tribal female students under study on emotional intelligence measure (See
figure 4). Hence null hypothesis 4 stand rejected.
Conclusion: India with a population of 104.8 million (2011 census), has the single largest
tribal population in the world, constituting 8.6 percent of the total population of the country.
Majority of these tribals live in scattered and small habitations located in remote and
inaccessible settlements in hilly and forest areas of the country. This study has examined the
emotional intelligence of tribal and non-tribal adolescents of Kashmir. It has been found that
the tribal and non-tribal adolescents differ significantly on the measure of emotional
intelligence. Non-tribal adolescents showed a higher level of emotional intelligence than
tribal students. There was no significant mean difference between male and female students.
Further the study revealed that there exists no significant difference between the tribal male
and female adolescents. However, there was significant difference between non-tribal male
and female students. It could be concluded that the more emotionally intelligent an adolescent
is, more easily he bears the turmoils and pressures of this age group. The socio cultural,
economic and educational variables of tribal population operate as a limiting factor for
adolescents to be emotionally intelligent, which in turn affects their academic achievement.

Thus, to bring this culturally and socially isolated population into the mainstream which is a
need for national integration their emotional intelligence needs to be enhanced.
