Lesson 1.3- I.D. functions of secretions
         along the digestive tract
    (pp363-360 of Biology-McGraw-Hill
                Ryerson)
I. Chemical digestion
   a.Define “chemical digestion” see glossary
     in back of book
   b. What effect do enzymes have on the
speed of “hydrolysis”, which is the
     chemical process of digestion where
     water molecules break down nutrients?
II. I.D. the function(s) of the following
     secretions in “chemical digestion”:
   a.In the Mouth:
       i. Amylase
   b. In the Stomach:
       i. Pepsin
       ii. Hydrochloric acid
c. In the Small Intestine:
   i. Pancreatic juice
ii. Bile salts (from liver): bile salts break
up fat globules into tiny fat droplets.
This makes it easier for other
       chemicals to transport and break
down the fat for energy and hormone
       production.
