- Weaknesses: Lower response rates than other methods. Can't ask follow up questions for clarity.
- Interviews:
- Strengths: Allowed for open-ended discussion to get rich qualitative insights. Could ask follow
The researcher conducted product research, questionnaires, and interviews to inform the development of sports posters. Product research allowed comparison of common features and effective design techniques across existing products. Questionnaires provided insights from the target audience about preferred content, designs, and role models. Interviews gave more in-depth feedback. Strengths included gathering audience preferences and ideas, while weaknesses could be immature responses or copying existing designs too closely. The research provided guidance on appealing to teenage male audiences.
The document analyzes existing magazine front covers and double page spreads to identify common successful design elements. It finds that featuring a prominent central poster figure, clear logo placement, and advertising are consistently used. Audience research revealed a preference for modern designs, relevant fighters like McGregor, and eye-catching central images over text. Interviews supported prioritizing clear focal images on covers and spreads to attract readers. This research will inform incorporating standout central figures, logos, and limited stories on the new magazine's cover and spreads.
The student proposes creating an NFL magazine to educate readers about the sport. They will focus on the upcoming draft, recent season, history, and current news. Having gained knowledge from watching games and reading articles, the student feels prepared to explain the game. To evaluate the magazine, they will compare it to existing publications and get feedback from family and friends on content and design. Research sources will include surveys of the target audience and NFL-focused magazines, websites, and lists ranking Super Bowls and games. The proposal outlines tasks like planning, production, and evaluation to be completed each week.
Here is an evaluation of the research methods used:
Product Research:
Strengths - Provided examples of effective designs to draw inspiration from. Allowed me to analyze techniques used by professionals.
Weaknesses - Only showed a limited number of examples. Didn't get feedback on my own ideas.
Questionnaires:
Strengths - Reached a wide audience and collected quantitative data. Provided insights into preferences.
Weaknesses - Lower response rate than expected. Didn't allow for follow up questions.
Interviews:
Strengths - Generated qualitative insights. Allowed me to get direct feedback on my concepts.
Weaknesses - Small sample size. Findings may not generalize to the whole audience.
The survey results show that for a football magazine:
- Red was the preferred color scheme by a large margin.
- Respondents wanted bright and vibrant colors rather than muted tones.
- Many respondents were unaware of famous female footballers, important since the magazine focuses on women's football.
- Opinions were split on wanting an abstract or simple magazine design.
The student proposes creating an NFL-themed magazine to educate readers about the sport. They will focus on topics like the upcoming draft, recent season, history, and current news. Having gained knowledge and interest in the NFL from watching games and reading articles, the student feels prepared to explain the game's rules and strategy. To evaluate the magazine, they will compare it to existing publications and get feedback from family and friends on content quality and design. Research sources will include surveys of the target audience as well as existing magazines and rankings of Super Bowl games and MVPs. The proposal outlines tasks for each week of the project, including initial planning, research, production, and final evaluation.
The researcher conducted product research, questionnaires, and interviews to inform their magazine design. For product research, they analyzed an existing magazine to understand its target audience. Questionnaires were distributed via Survey Monkey but the responses came from classmates rather than the intended audience. Interviews were conducted via direct messages which allowed for a small sample size not fully representative of the target group. Both questionnaires and interviews could be improved by reaching a larger, more relevant sample audience.

[/SUMMARY]
The document discusses the unpredictability of the future but how working hard in school can help set oneself up for success later in life. While it's easy to dream big when young, as one ages it's important to understand dreams may not come true and to focus on more realistic goals like getting a job and providing for oneself. The author expresses their childhood dream of playing professional football for Liverpool but now hopes to play quarterback in the NFL, specifically for the Jacksonville Jaguars, or attend the NFL Academy in London with the goal of eventually playing college football in America.
The document discusses social media usage trends among 16-24 year olds. It notes that the most popular current social media sites for this age group are Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, WhatsApp, Pinterest, and Reddit. It also provides statistics on global internet and social media usage, showing that over 3 billion people now use social media platforms. The top hashtags on Instagram in 2021 relate to love, daily photos, happiness, likes, summer, family and travel. YouTube remains very popular for this demographic for watching music videos, vlogs and other video types like gaming, commentary and sports.
The document profiles the target audience for a campaign as 16-24 year olds in York, England who are in college or university. They enjoy social media, fashion, sports and gaming. Nearly half of this demographic reported feeling anxious during the pandemic and over a third are looking forward to seeing friends again but also worried about restrictions lifting. Many felt bored, lonely and isolated during lockdown and nearly half say their mental health was negatively impacted.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
Laura Mulvey developed the theory of the "male gaze" in 1975 to describe how media portrays and objectifies women from a masculine point of view for the sexual gratification of the male viewer. The essay analyzes how films like Wolf of Wall Street and Transformers oversexualize female characters like Margot Robbie's and Megan Fox's roles. This objectification reflects the male-dominated film industry's view that such portrayals of women are acceptable. In contrast, women are often portrayed in a more revealing manner on the covers of Women's Health magazine compared to how men are portrayed on the covers of Men's Health magazine.
Pepsi holds major sponsorship deals with the NBA, NFL, NHL, and cricket. Adidas is the official ball sponsor for the last two World Cups and sponsors many national soccer teams as well as clubs like Real Madrid. Coca-Cola spent $5.8 billion on global advertising in 2018 and has sponsored the Olympics for over 90 years. Red Bull owns sports teams like RB Leipzig and FC Red Bull Salzburg and uses its "Gives You Wings" slogan extensively in sports sponsorships.
The document is a production diary for a magazine. It details progress on different sections of the magazine over several dates. On October 21st, the writer finished an article and interview and began work on the back cover. On October 22nd, the writer finalized the front and back covers by adjusting text and experimenting with gradients to make the covers more visually interesting. The diary also notes beginning to layout text in InDesign on October 22nd.
The document provides templates and guidance for evaluating projects at Level 3 of an Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology. It outlines sections to include in the evaluation such as an overview of the project theme and research, development of ideas, outcomes, personal reflections, evaluation of strengths and weaknesses, and an action plan. The templates are designed to help students analyze their work, make judgments about quality, and identify areas for improvement in future projects.
The document provides a planning and production schedule for creating a fanzine that combines football, the NFL, and the impacts of social media. It includes plans to create content on the positives and negatives of social media, how social media has impacted sports, prominent sponsors in sports, and an analysis of the racist abuse faced by England players after the Euro 2020 final. The production schedule outlines tasks like researching sponsors, setting up an interview, designing page layouts, and editing content over a three week period to finalize the fanzine.
This proposal outlines a student's fanzine project about the influence of social media on sports. The student aims to create a fanzine that explores both the positive and negative impacts of social media, such as how racism online affects athletes. The target audience is 16-24 year olds. The student plans to research social media's role in sports and how players deal with the effects. They will document their progress and evaluate each step of the process. The proposal includes a bibliography and outlines tasks for each week such as designing covers and pages, writing articles, and making changes.
The document summarizes several media theories:
- Auteur Theory asserts that the director is the "author" of a film and their creative vision shapes the film. It looks at three components: technical competence, personality, and interior meaning.
- Reception Theory holds that media messages can be decoded differently by audiences - as the dominant, negotiated, or oppositional reader.
- The Hypodermic Needle Model views media as having the power to influence and control audiences like a hypodermic needle. However, this ignores that audiences do not always passively receive messages.
- The Male Gaze portrays and looks at women in a way that empowers men while sexualizing and diminishing women.
Women's Health magazine was founded in 2005 and began selling in the UK in 2012, while Men's Health was founded in 1986 and began UK sales in 1995. This document analyzes how the magazines differ in their portrayal of gender, with Men's Health featuring more clothed males but Women's Health tending to use less clothed, more skin-showing females. This reflects the concept of the "Male Gaze" theory from 1975, which describes a perspective that empowers men through the sexualization and diminishment of women.
For his fanzine, the author wants to use a style that fits with the sports theme while maintaining the serious mental health element. He believes an attention-grabbing presentation is best to engage readers throughout. To achieve this, he will follow his plan and schemes while developing new skills in Photoshop to make his work more creative. His experiments aim to take basic images and transform them into visually pleasing covers that entice readers to learn more about the fanzine's subject. He hopes to focus on depth and detail like other fanzines that strongly convey their topic's idea.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
The document provides a treatment for a factual production project about the negative and dark side of social media in sports. The topic was chosen because English soccer players faced racial abuse on social media after losing the Euro 2020 final on penalties. The purpose of the project is to show how even successful athletes can be seriously affected by online abuse, which can impact their mental health and potentially force them to take breaks from the game or retire early. Interviews will be conducted with a semi-pro or amateur athlete. Images taken by the creator at NFL London games will be used. The fanzine format was selected as it allows the creator to apply their photography specialism.
1. Alexander Shepherd proposes creating a fanzine about the impact of social media on sports, specifically how racism and online abuse affect players. Their target audience is 16-24 year olds who are interested in both sports and social media.
2. They plan to research the positives and negatives of social media's role in sports, how players deal with online abuse, and the effects it has on them. They will document their entire process to evaluate their progress and skills from the beginning of the project to the end.
3. The project will involve production during weeks 1, 2, 3, and 4, with some weeks taking place in college and others remotely, requiring different task planning around other work.
The document provides planning details for a fanzine that will discuss the intersection of sports, social media, and mental health. It includes a mood board analysis highlighting inspiration from football fanzines and articles on social media's negative impacts. The content outline details sections on sports, social media in sports, sponsors, the positives and negatives of social media, abusive behavior online, and the Euro 2020 final and aftermath. Production elements like visual style, page count, and organization are planned. A production schedule is also provided to guide research, interviews, and layout.
Thank you for the interview practice. You demonstrated strong knowledge of Liverpool FC and were able to thoughtfully answer a variety of questions about the club, its history, players and your perspectives. Practicing interviews in this way is very helpful for building confidence in discussing topics you're passionate about. Best of luck with any future interviews!
This document is a project proposal from a student named Alexander Shepherd for a fanzine about the influence of social media on sports. The target audience is 16-24 year olds since sport is popular in that age group and social media is a major part of their lives. The student aims to research both the positives and negatives of social media's role in sport, how players deal with issues like racism online, and how results are affected. Progress will be evaluated at each step to document skills learned and show development from the start to finish of the project.
The document provides a treatment for a factual production project about the negative and dark side of social media in sports. The topic was chosen because three England players were racially abused on social media after missing penalties that led to England losing the Euro 2020 final to Italy. The purpose of the project is to show how even successful athletes can be seriously affected by online abuse and how it can impact their mental health and potentially force them to take breaks from the game or retire early. The intended audience is sports fans as well as those who use social media but don't believe abuse is truly real. Interviews will be conducted with semi-pro or amateur athletes. The project will be a 12-page fanzine covering the history of social media

2. Existing Product
My front cover is
going to be like
this one because
I’m going to
have a main
player who I
look up to as an
idol like many
kids do now
with Patrick
Mahomes (that’s
the guy to the
right). Having a
well-known
player and what
they have
managed can
draw people in
and that’s what
I’m going for.
The use of a team who may have
made a deep playoff run, made the
super bowl, won the super bowl or
just defined expectations. The
bigger players draw more attention
and showing them first of can make
people want to read about them
and how their story played out.
The name of the magazine to me
is the most important piece as
having something snappy and
bold really grabs the eye of the
buyer. Also using something that
links to the sport is key as you
want people to know what this
magazine is about.
I like what Neil put has put a
line to grab attention so you
see Kanas City Chiefs and
Patrick Mahomes, but that tiny
piece of text really sells it to
me and that’s what I want to
get across for my final front
cover.
With the league just passing
through it’s 101st season so Neil
was clever including that this
addition saying it was the 100th
season is clever because again it
catches attention and people
may then want to buy it read
about the league and it’s history.
3. Existing Product Madden has been the video game for the NFL for
years since the great John Madden. Madden uses
different players every year to mix things up. Using
different players creates different attention as
people may be drawn to players from their favorite
teams may cause more attention when it comes to
buying the game.
As time has progressed the colours behind the
players has extremely changed and it has become
more unique based on the year of the games
release. To me that is highly important to stay up to
date with certain players and the use of colours, the
more colour used the more attention the game
causes on selves and catches the eye of gamers.
When I bought my first Madden I got Madden 17
and it was the player on the cover which drew me in
because seeing a well known player catches the eye
of new players like I was at the time.
The font and text also plays a big
part to me as if they used the
same idea each year it would end
up becoming boring and repetitive
and no one wants the same idea
year after year. The look of a front
cover plays a big part in some
people eyes like me, it may only
be a small part of the cover but it
still creates something different to
go along with player and colour
The layout of text,
player and font also
changes year in year
out and that again
plays a role in
grabbing the attention
of players. You want a
game that plays as
well as it looks and
Madden in one of
those games.
Showing which type of console the
game is made for. Although this is
basic it does hold an important
place because you may buy the
game and try play it on the wrong
gaming console and it doesn’t
work you would want to take it
back and get your money back but
then you can’t because you didn’t
look at the console it was made
for.
4. Existing Product Billboards can really mix things up massively and this
one really catches the eye. Every NFL players journey
has to start at college but coming out of high school
they have to commit to a college where they will study.
This headline really grabs the attention because
everyone has the dream of achieving greatness and to
say greatness begins at LSU really catches attention
and to me would really help my decision when it came
to committing.
Advertising the college, now even
though the LSU is little it still gives
off something and sometimes
knowing which college is best is
important for me this whole
billboard has made me really up my
dream of playing for LSU and then
going on into the NFL.
The inclusion of a player, having a player is
extremely good because younger kids may look
up to that player and seeing they believe
greatness begins at LSU may play a huge role in
that persons future and how they g about playing
football in the future.
This billboard to me is really good because as much as
it draws you in and catches the eye and could help get
high-schoolers to commit their future to LSU but the
main thing for me is the statement written on it.. Even
if people don’t want to play football and they want to
follow their path but saying ‘Greatness Begins Here’ can
really help kids.
5. Existing Product
Adverts for body products, to me these are one
the best ways to promote your company and
product. Old spice have always been linked with
the NFL and the adverts are great and using a
personal experience I watched these adverts ad
started using old spice so it shows adverts work.
Product and player positioning catches
my eye here and the creators this advert
have been extremely clever as they used
the player Montenz Sweat so they have
tried to be funny to draw people in. I
think comedy does work in grabbing the
attention of people and trying to get
products purchased. NFL players have
always been in adverts and on different
types of advertising.
Like the LSU headline of Greatness
begins here this is again linked with the
product. The use of a headline grabs
the attention of people and when it
comes to something like body products
it is key you find one that works for you
and your lifestyle. They have also
worded it well and that to me plays a
big role.
Audience appeal with this product is
interesting because people may see
the advert and want to go out and
buy old spice to try it out but then
you have the side that have a body
product they use and won’t feel the
need to try anything different.
6. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
• All the products are bright and try to be eye catching, this is a rather obvious
one because you want whatever your advertising to stand out and be eye
catching so people will want to go out and bye that product. The use of
headlines also pop up a fair bit and they add just something else to the
product.
• For me the most important thing when it comes advertising a product you
need to try connect with the aimed audience and the products that succeed
are the ones that do connect.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
• I’m going to use the headline/little piece of text to try assist my work in getting across
and linking it to what people may want to hear or read about but I’m mainly going to
include colour and images and I also want to use players who may be seen as role
models to the kids growing up watching the current players in the NFL.
8. Audience research
• Observation: Shocking.. It is the more logical answer but I’m still shocked.
• What this says about my audience: They know a little bit more and it has eased
some of my fears that no one had a tiny idea about the NFL.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I’m hoping to educate them
more and try get more people to understand the sport I love. Everyone during this
will be wanting to create something that helps people may understand a bit more
or just show want to show off their knowledge, this question may have been basic
but having the knowledge that your audience at least know what your going to be
creating something on is extremely helpful.
9. Audience research
• Observation: New York attracts attention
• What this says about my audience: New York seems to catch attention, the
alliteration of Buffalo Bills seemed to grab attention.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: Using this study and some
more research on NFL most supported in other countries and using all
those results to use those teams on a double page spread in my magazine.
10. Audience Research
• In response to my survey question about which team caught the eye I have found
a study on which teams are best supported worldwide and I found the 10 most
supported teams across Europe.
• 1. New England Patriots, 2. Los Angeles Rams, 3. New York Giants, 4. Seattle
Seahawks, 5. Oakland Raiders, 6. Atlanta Falcons, 7. Green Bay Packers, 8. Denver
Broncos, 9. Philadelphia Eagles, 10. Baltimore Ravens… These were the ten teams
from the study and out the teams I used in my survey only the Falcons and Packers
appeared.
• I also found the most supported team in the UK was the Carolina Panthers.. To me
this was a shock I was expecting the Jacksonville Jaguars to be the most supported
as they have played in England the most since 2007.
• My question was mainly how people would pick teams and I had a feeling which
ever one they have made heard of, seen before or that teams play in a city they
want to visit. The teams I picked I mixed it up.. I used one alliteration (Buffalo Bills),
I used my own team (Jacksonville Jaguars), then I thought to add a New York
because I know people love New York and many want to go and my survey ended
up with the results favouring the New York teams.
11. Audience research
• Observation: So far the survey has had more male answers.
• What this says about my audience: Mixed bag so far and I expect it to be around
55-45.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I’m just trying to educate more
people about the NFL and see if I could maybe get more people watching and
enjoying the game I love, especially getting more females fans because no sport
should be for only one gender.
12. Audience Research
• So my far more males have taken my survey than females so this led to
me wanting to research how the NFL fanbase was spilt between the
two and which team had the largest number of female supporters.
• In 2012 the percentage of female football fans was around 40%
meaning it was male dominated but it was closing, in 2013 it had risen
to 44% but in 2020 Statista released figures about how each gender
supported the NFL and the results showed that 49% of male were avid
fans, 29% were casual and 29% weren’t fans at all. The female numbers
are rather shocking 49% aren’t fans at all or even interested in the
sport, 33% are casual fans and a tiny 18% are avid fans.. 2020 was a
strange year but for the numbers in 7 years but drop so much is rather
shocking the NFL works hard on making the game for both genders, in
super bowl 55 they had the first female official and that is only going to
continue so hopefully more females get back into the sport.
• In 2007 Pittsburgh were named the most followed team out of 122
across all the major sporting divisions in America and back then it was
also recorded they had the largest number of female fans.
• The most supported team now is the New England Patriots with over
4.5 million fans this is mainly down to the Tom Brady era but despite
Brady leaving in 2020 free agency but the base barely lost fans. The NFL
does struggle with bandwagon fans who just support the team who
wins the super bowl.
13. Audience research
• Observation: People like the idea of Jacksonville been on the front cover
because the colours of the team link with the colour I want to use for my
front cover
• What this says about my audience: This is good for me because
Jacksonville are my favourite team so I did want to use the team as the
cover and the double page spread.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: Since the replies so far
have all been positive about how the cover it means if I can use this with
my product it should help to appeal to the audience.
14. Audience research
• Observation: The magazine cover I selected would catch attention but
possibly not enough to be purchased.
• What this says about my audience: A basic cover with one
big headline doesn’t really grab the attention of the audience.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
Using the feedback on the Jacksonville cover and this feedback I am going to mix
the two pieces and then hopefully using the feedback create a product that will
appeal to my audience.
15. Audience research
• Observation: So the design of using a player in the centre and then mix it
with just straight up words doesn’t catch the eye.
• What this says about my audience: Basic doesn’t really catch the eye
• How will your product appeal to this audience: Using all the feedback I got
from all the magazine covers I’m going to create a product that will have
used all the feedback from the survey.
17. Interview 1
• Nathan interview..
• So question 1. What age group do you fit into?
• 17-20
• Q2. Would you say the NFL is a male dominated sport?
• I’d say at the moment it is male dominated yes, but seeing Sarah
Thomas officiate in the super bowl I think things are changing.
• Q3.. What made you get into the sport?
• I think getting close with you on the Italy trip helped and then we
both started going out to throw the ball and we both started getting
into it more and it went from there.
• Q4. Who is a current player you look up as an idol?
• I’d say Tom Brady just because he went from a no one to the best
player is the games history..
18. Interview 1
• Observation: Nathan has the same belief as me about
males currently taking up the sport but he believes that
Sarah Thomas officiating in the super bowl will help.
• What this says about my audience: Most will agree that
the game could have more female involvement and
having more may help with getting more people into
the sport.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: Using
my interviews and knowledge I’m going to mix all of
them together in order to create a product that
everyone will like and would want to buy the product.
19. Interview 2
• Interview with El
• Q1. As a female do you think the world of sport
should be equal in all aspects?
• Yes I do, I believe males and females should all be
equal.. I think American sport does more than
sport over here in England.
• Q2. If the NFL offered more to females would you
be interested in trying to learn about the sport?
• I would say those girls into there sports would
maybe interested in getting into the sport but
those who don’t play sports probably wouldn’t..
20. Interview 2
• Observation: I need to try get my point across even to
those girls who maybe don’t like sports as much.
• What this says about my audience: I’m going to have to
really use my knowledge and answers from surveys and
interviews to try make sure I can get across and my
