who according to Senator Joseph Mccarthy had communist ties and were trying to spread Soviet

different disorders and the most appealing disorder to me was the Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease,
or most commonly known as GERD as well as Acid Reflux Disease. GERD is a common disorder
with more than 10 million Americans who have been diagnosed, including infants. GERD is a reflux
disease that is triggered by a weak lower esophageal sphincter. The lower esophageal sphincter, LES,
is located between the end of the esophagus and the stomach. A closed lower esophageal sphincter
prevents acid and bolus from returning to the esophagus. Those diagnosed with GERD experience a
weak lower esophageal sphincter, which can cause bolus and acid to travel up the esophagus, causing
a heart burning sensation. Overtime, a continuous exposure to the stomach acid and bolus can cause
the esophagus to erode, which may result in bleeding as well as breathing problems. A most common
symptom of GERD is heartburn that increases when bending over, stooping, lying down, and eating.

This dichotomy is multi layered, reaching all the way down to the deep internal struggle of the
individual human being. Lily s struggle with her individuality and the need to play by the rules causes
her to commit social blunders and become an innocent victim of society s harsh cruelty.
At the beginning of the novel, Lily is aware of and acts according to the rules which subscribe to the
Manichean principle: One must consistently act in one way or the other there is no in between. There
is no distance between the internal and the external for Lily at this point, which is the root of her
innocence, but she is vaguely aware that something is happening to her. She longs for escape from
routine (19) but is still conscious of the fact that escape does not come without a price. Lily is never
able to do a natural thing without having to screen it behind a structure of artifice (19). She is innocent

An example of this desire would be how Columbus s initial thought upon meeting the natives was how
they would be servant and were to find their gold. During the time period 1492 to 1750, the Age of

In 2005 at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School in Louisville, Ky I walked into the Behavioral
Disorder classroom headed up by Mr. Miracle. He was an attractive older man with gray temples and
salt pepper strands throughout his fully filled head. He had a smile that was tired but genuine and Paul

Isak Dinesen s Blank Page (1957) and Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber (1979) are both stories
centralizing issues on gender by particularly focusing on women, female body and indeed questioning
concepts like gender roles and female identity. Briefly, The Blank Page, is a short story about how
female identity is constructed in which Dinesen questions this identity symbolically through the story

Student Leadership Reflection
Throughout the semester I have learned a lot about my strengths. At first, I had no clue what they
were. I also had no clue that they can help explain why certain people work well in a group together or
why they don t. My strengths have helped me adjust to life as a college student and even helped me to
figure out what I want to do after my college career is over. Events like the Heritage Project, The
Student Leadership book, the networking event, and even the peer mentor presentations gave me a lot
to think about when considering my future. This class has helped me develop my leadership skills and
grow as an Otterbein student by allowing me to better understand myself.
Throughout this semester I have encountered many different situations that I have never experienced
before. I wasn t hesitant about starting college but once I got here I found it a little overwhelming. I
didn t know about many of the resources that are on campus and classes were very different from what
I expected them to be. FYS Goal one, found on the strengths reflection paper guidelines is, To connect
you to the resources that promote belonging, wellness, personal development, and success in the first
year . I feel as though FYS 1025 has helped me meet that goal because I now know about many of the
resources centers here. I learned about them through Jordan s peer mentor moments, whether she was
talking about the Center for Student Success or the CCPD. Jordan s peer mentor moments helped me
locate the different resource around campus and even understand what they were about. Even though I
haven t been to some of them, I was able to help people not in our class find them and know what
those resources are about. This has helped me grow as a student because it increases my familiarity
with campus and allows me to know that if I have a question there are people that can provide me with
information.
The course has developed me as a future leader at Otterbein by helping me understand myself. In the
beginning I didn t know about strengths. Now that I do, I see why they are important when beginning
a new chapter in life. Before starting a project, I now think about how I m going to accomplish my
goals. I use my strategic strength to plan out

A single shot. A single shot is all it takes to freeze time, and create a standstill that will last for
generations. A single shot can transport people to a point in time, to let them remember an occasion
that they may have otherwise forgotten; not because it is unimportant, but rather in the scheme of life
sometimes the small moments may go unnoticed. The brain continues to amaze people day by day the
fact that an object so easily created, and so easily destroyed. It can resurface every emotion that was

on how they remember a moment, videos take away interpretation, which can keep people from
thinking, and cause them to only focus on watching. Snapshots are the only representation that exist in
