This document outlines the K-W-L framework for planning a CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) unit. K refers to what students already know about the topic. W refers to what students will learn. L refers to what students will have learned by the end of the unit. The sample unit uses shapes, colors, and the Thanksgiving holiday to teach students vocabulary and language structures in a target language. By the end of the unit, students will be able to describe, differentiate, and categorize objects as well as express their ideas and what they are thankful for in simple sentences in the target language.
