The London Borough of Hounslow introduced a Grant for Residents with Dementia during the 2017/18 financial year following a dementia seminar in February 2017. The grant provides funding for minor home modifications like ramps, grab rails, and improved lighting to help residents with dementia live safely and independently. A GPS tracking device monitored by a community alarm service was also issued to some grant recipients. The grant was capped initially at £1,000 but later increased to £2,500 under a new policy.

Applications for 2017 have now closed, but will re-open again next year in March 2018. Andrew Trump has worked as an arts manager (New England Theatre Company, Q Theatre), an events and celebrations manager (Australia Day Council of NSW, NSW Centenary of Federation Committee), and a local government cultural planner (Gold Coast City Council). He is currently responsible for the design, development, implementation and management of a new three year grants program, part of the Heritage Near Me initiative of the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage.
Heritage Near Me Program
The Heritage Near Me incentives program is part of an initiative announced by the then-Minister for Heritage in 2015. Heritage Near Me is an innovative new program that empowers NSW communities to protect, share and celebrate their local heritage. The program has three funding streams: Local Heritage Green Energy Grants; Local Heritage Activation Grants; and, Local Heritage Strategic Projects. This talk will outline the applicant guidelines for each stream, the current priorities for funding, and provide examples of recent successful applicants.

The Foundation was established in 1990 with an initial capital of CHF 12,000 and has since undertaken around 90 real estate projects focused on affordable housing and work spaces in Switzerland and Germany. It aims to keep properties in perpetuity while reducing debt burdens to securely provide socially responsible living and work spaces. It also promotes intergenerational and inclusive communities and self-governance through long-term leases that include amortization payments and solidarity interest to fund new projects. Examples of projects include affordable urban, family, senior and artist housing as well as student housing and communal living spaces.

WG 11 - Social Innovation and social farming as drivers of transformations and changes in rural areas.
Abstract: Rural development in general, and particularly depopulation, are complex, multifaceted processes which call for an interdisciplinary approach. Nowadays, rural studies is an interdisciplinary and post-disciplinary field of study which encompasses a wide range of social, economic and environmental issues, as well as relevant public policy. Contributions from sociology, geography, anthropology, political science, ecology and more all have a place in this field (Shucksmith and Brown, 2016; Moyano 2009). It is necessary to tackle study in this area from an interdisciplinary perspective which integrates different factors and offers analysis frameworks capable of accounting for the complexity of events in rural areas when dealing with depopulation.
Social innovation in rural areas is currently one of the most powerful paradigms for fostering rural development and confronting the challenges of depopulation. Despite being a controversial concept (Ayob, Teasdale y Fagan, 2009; Sinclair y Baglioni, 2014), it is widely used in political discourse, particularly in the context of the European Union (Sinclair y Baglioni, 2014). Social innovation has been put forward as the ideal solution to achieve positive social changes in societies experiencing societal challenges, becoming the predominant discursive framework of social development.
The proposed paper explores social innovation initiatives from the perspective of the interdisciplinary involvement in them. The aim of the paper is to study social innovation initiatives in rural areas facing depopulation from the perspective of the diversity of types of knowledge involved in them. For this purpose, we develop a qualitative analysis of the diversity of topics and actors involved in the social innovation initiatives trying to face depopulation processes in marginalised rural areas in Europa that are recorded in the database of the European research project “Social Innovation in Marginalised Rural Areas –SIMRA”. The project has housed 62 people through partnerships between government, community, corporate, and philanthropic groups. Key achievements include securing funding for housing 70 rough sleepers and analyzing costs that show it is more efficient to house the homeless than leave them on the streets. Ongoing work includes exploring private rental opportunities, new builds, and meetings with government to discuss solutions.

2019 February Hounslow Grant for Residents with Dementia
- 2. GRANT FOR RESIDENTS WITH DEMENTIA London Borough of Hounslow introduced a Grant for Residents with Dementia during financial year 2017/18 The grant was introduced following a Foundations Dementia Seminar on 21/2/17 which prompted me to send a Surveyor to Dementia Friendly Homes training on 30/3/17. GPS Device issued to residents with Dementia – monitored by Linkline+ - Community Alarm service.

- 4. Learning • Following the training the team attended various events for carers, Dementia week and meetings with Health colleagues. • A leaflet advertising the grant was produced and the grant was formally launched to take self referrals on 2/5/18 at a joint Richmond/Hounslow health event.
- 5. Grant Levels • Lucius Tybulewicz – Surveyor then went on the Dementia and Housing Learning event “Beyond the Front Door”. • The grant was capped at the Minor works DFG grant level of £1k. • This has increased to £2.5k after a new DFG policy launched Nov. 18
