The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is a law that was signed on June 28, 2018, that established and promoted the consumer privacy rights and business obligations concerning the collection and sales of personal information of citizens of California. The CCPA came into effect on January 1st, 2020. Soon after in November 2020, Proposition 24, known as the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (CPRA) was introduced which is soon to replace the CCPA Compliance. CPRA is the updated version that expands the CCPA Compliance. The latest version can be more accurately described as an improvisation of the existing compliance framework with amendments and additions introduced in the provision. Explaining the amendments and new additions introduced, we have shared all the details of CCPA Compliance Vs CPRA Compliance in the article today. But before that let us learn and understand what exactly CPRA Compliance is.
CCPA Update: What You Need to Know about CPRA & July 1st EnforcementTrustArc
The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) continues to dominate headlines with the upcoming July 1, 2020 enforcement date and the proposed California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) – aka CCPA 2.0. Companies who are in varying stages of preparing for CCPA compliance under the stress of the upcoming enforcement date and as yet unfinalized regulations, must now face the prospect of a ballot initiative which includes new definitions, expanded individual rights, and broadens the enforcement elements of the CCPA.
The California AG is expected to move forward with non-compliance enforcement even amid COVID-19. If companies don’t have a solid CCPA compliance plan in place, they are at risk of facing fines up to $7,500 per violation, in addition to any possible reputational damage.
This webinar will review:

-What to expect for the July 1st enforcement date

Sept. 2019 - The California Privacy Act and Social Media MarketingSocial Media Club LA
One of the biggest areas of concern in our space in recent years is the way technology has changed privacy and the rapid changes around the field’s legalese. And lest we forget we need not only be concerned with our own and our clients’ rights, we also have to be attentive to the rights of others! For example, if you are at an event and you start snapping photos, can you just post those pics straight to the web? What are you allowed to say in a social media ad? Can you run any ol’ giveaway on Instagram? What about all the ins and outs of how influencers should post online?
Social Media Club LA presented two leaders in this evolving space for presentations on all the dos and do-nots of social media marketing with regard to the FCC’s regulations and latest laws.

Introduction to US Privacy and Data Security: Regulations and RequirementsFinancial Poise
The United States has no federal data security or privacy law covering all businesses or all U.S. citizens. Instead, federal agencies and individual states have created their own patchwork of laws and regulations which must be evaluated for their application to a business.
This webinar will help you navigate the overlapping and sometimes confusing system of laws and regulations which may impact your business, ranging from emerging state-level privacy legislation to the numerous data breach notification statutes to cybersecurity regulations with extraterritorial effect.

Following the GDPR, the CCPA quickly presented additional and different requirements that organizations must include in their privacy programs if they are subject to the regulation. With more disclosures surrounding personal information required, privacy is not limited to a designated office - stakeholders from various departments must be aware of and take ownership of activities within their functional realms.
Now, more than ever, we are seeing a blend of the privacy and security roles, and it is not uncommon to see Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) heavily involved in privacy risk activities. Whether it’s taking data inventory and assessing risk to having a rock solid data breach response plan in place, CISOs provide the security component that is critical for a successful CCPA compliance plan.
-The CISOs role in CCPA compliance
-Potential risks to the security and privacy of sensitive information

How To Do Data Transfers Between EU-US in 2023TrustArc
Since March 2022, businesses in the EU and U.S. have been waiting for an adequacy decision on the revamped Privacy Shield data transfer agreement, the U.S.-EU Data Transfer Framework Executive Order. The agreement would allow Europeans’ data to flow to the U.S. once again, after a long two years since Schrems II overturned Privacy Shield.
Yet the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and European Parliament announced that the U.S.-EU Data Transfer Framework Executive Order is insufficient and does not provide adequate safeguards in March 2023.
What does this mean for businesses that have been in cross-border data transfer limbo since Schrems II? Is it possible to do data transfers between the EU and the US?
This webinar reviews:
- Where does the EU-U.S. Data Transfer Framework stand today?
- What adequate safeguards are currently missing from the framework in the eyes of the EDPB and European Parliament?
- How SCCs can be used for cross-border data transfers

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
