This document provides information for parents about the 2015 Shorecrest track and field season including coaching staff contact details, practice times, meet schedules, and event information for middle school and varsity athletes. General guidelines state that communication should be through Amy Pope Raab, athletes are expected to attend daily practice, and volunteer positions are available at home meets. Middle school athletes will participate in field events like long jump and running events like the 100m at meets between February 10th and March 10th. Varsity includes grades 9-12 and meets will be held between February 12th and May 1st, determining state qualifying athletes.

All athletes are expected to attend practice each day unless
they have communicated with the coaches prior to an
absence
MD practice generally runs from 3:20-4:45, Varsity 3:40-5:oo
– please have your child confirm practice times with his or
her specific coach
3. General Guidelines Continued
Water and Gatorade will be brought to each meet for the athletes
Each child is responsible for bringing his or her own snacks to
meets
All families should visit our team’s Sign-up Genius to volunteer for
one of our 3 home meets – No experience necessary for any
positions!

The entire team will help with Luminarias at the Relay for Life
event at SPS on May 1st – many details to follow.
4. Middle School
Uniform t-shirts will be handed out Monday 2/9, to be worn
with PE shorts for meets
Athletes may participate in 4 events per meet
Attendance at practice, level of effort, and number of
students requesting each individual event will determine the
events in which each athlete will compete
FAT (Fully Automated Timing) will be utilized for all MD
meets this season – this means that athletes MUST attend
practice in order to sign up for events prior to the meets. If
athletes have not signed up in advance, they will not be able
to participate in the meets.
5. Middle School continued
We will do our best to allow each athlete to participate in the
events that they would like, however, we are limited in our number
of participants for field events in the meets
Please encourage your child to be willing to try something new or
different in practice, and then possibly in the meet as well
MS field events : Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Discus
MS running events : 100 Hurdles, 100M, 1600M, 4x100 Relay,
400M, Sprint Medley Relay, 800M, 200M, 4x400M Relay
The Order of Events is printed on the Uniform T-shirt – this will
give you the best idea of when your child will compete in each
meet.
6. Middle School continued
MS meets typically last 2-4 hours
Your child may leave once his or her events are
complete – please be sure to locate and sign the sign-
out sheet before leaving the meet
Students riding the bus to meets will have access to a
phone with which to call home on our way back to SPS
Students may leave the meet with another parent with
written permission

All MS meets will begin with Field Events @ 3:30, Running events @ 4:15

3/10 – Middle School Championship Meet @ SPS
Field Events @ 12 Noon, Running Events @ 1PM
The MS Championship meet on 3/10 will showcase the top 4 athletes in each
event. The list of qualifying athletes will be posted on Wednesday 3/4.
8. Varsity Track & Field
Includes all athletes grades 9-12 and any MS athletes
who are specifically asked to move up by the coaches
Typically the top four in each event participate in meets,
therefore some athletes may not end up participating in
every meet.
Athletes must have competed in 4 meets in order to be
eligible for the District meet
Athletes may participate in up to 4 events per meet
9. Varsity Continued
Participation in meets will be determined not only by performance standards,
but also participation and attendance at practice
All athletes who wish to drive to away meets must have written permission on
file with the athletic office
Uniforms will be distributed early next week

Varsity Field Events : Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Pole Vault, Shot
Put, Discus (4x800 Relay typically runs with field events)
Varsity Running events :100/110M Hurdles, 100M, 1600M, 4x100 Relay,
400M, 300M Hurdles, 800M, 200M, 3200M, 4x400 Relay
Varsity athletes may sign up for shifts at either of the Middle School home
meets in order to earn service hours
