Caribbean Studies Internal Assessment (Sample) OmziiNella Bell
The document discusses a study on the impact of dancehall music on students at Black River High School. Data was collected through questionnaires given to students and observation at a school concert. Most students listened to dancehall for entertainment and agreed it promotes negative messages and gang violence. They felt the lyrics and artists' actions influence moods and behavior. While some saw artists as role models, most did not and suggested banning dancehall to reduce its negative effects. The findings indicate dancehall impacts students' emotions and may contribute to misconduct.

The document discusses establishing a cocoa processing industry in St. Lucia. It begins with an introduction stating that St. Lucia exports most of its cocoa while processing little locally. Expanding cocoa processing could create jobs and income. Research questions are posed about cocoa production, potential products, requirements to increase quality/quantity of processing, and benefits/difficulties of expanding processing. Interviews with employees from two hotels that process cocoa revealed details of their operations. One hotel processes 8 tons of cocoa beans annually and exports nearly all of it. The other grows cocoa on its estate and uses it primarily for pastries, amenities, and tours. Both see potential benefits but also challenges to larger-scale local processing in St. Lucia.
The document discusses four ways that the Caribbean region is defined:
1. Geologically, as being located on the Caribbean Plate between the North and South American Plates. This results in shared tectonic, volcanic, and seismic features like earthquakes and hurricanes.
2. Geographically, as the area washed by the Caribbean Sea, including the Lesser Antilles islands, Central America, and northern South America.
3. Historically, as the territories colonized by European powers like the British, French, Spanish, and Dutch and that experienced plantation slavery.
4. Politically, as independent states, associated states that enjoy rights from their governing country, and colonial dependencies directly governed by other countries
