The saveMLAK project began in 2011 after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami that killed over 18,000 people. The project aimed to rebuild museum, library, archive, and community center (MLAK) facilities damaged in the disaster area. They did this by [1] gathering information on damaged MLAK facilities using a wiki and [2] coordinating rebuilding activities like temporary library buildings and donating books to replace lost collections. Recovery and reconstruction efforts are still ongoing over 2 years later as facilities have not been fully rebuilt.
