What are LRCs?
The Language Resource Centers were established
through US Dept. of Education Title VI funding in 1990
 Currently 15 LRCs

LRCs are mandated to “improve the capacity to teach
and learn foreign languages effectively” in the US

  • 2. What are LRCs? The Language Resource Centers were established through US Dept. of Education Title VI funding in 1990  Currently 15 LRCs LRCs are mandated to “improve the capacity to teach and learn foreign languages effectively” in the US

Specific LRC Activities  Research on new and improved teaching methods, including the use of advanced educational technology  Development of new teaching materials reflecting the use of such research in effective teaching strategies, including:  Significant focus on the less commonly taught languages and the publication of instructional materials in the LCTLs  Development of materials for foreign language teachers at the elementary and secondary school levels  Development and application of performance testing for use as a standard and comparable measurement of skill levels in all languages

  27. Elaine. Also fully refereed, with 2 issues a year, this scholarly international online journal publishes papers on issues in foreign language reading and literacy. It is offered by NFLRC and is FREE.
  28. Elaine. This online journal focuses on issues in Slavic and East European linguistics and language learning. It is a product of SEELRC at Duke and is FREE.

  33. Elaine. Content based units for high school created with a team of unviersity and high school cntent and language teachers. Loss of funding prevents maintenance of site so some links broken.

  35. Elaine. COBALTT site is fully maintained, up and running. It provides comprehensive research based training modules for teachers on nature of content based learning and teaching, with templates to support teachers’ development of their own CBI materials, and also a searchable database of detailed CBI lesson plans and units glossed to the standards for Spanish, French, German and other languages. Used for CBI teacher workshops and in support of teaching throughout the US and internationally as well.
