The Happy Healthy Nonprofit: Linking Self-Care and Wellbeing to Impact Beth Kanter
This session is about how and why it is important to treat self-care and well-being as an organizational strategy and cultural norm. When self-care initiatives are treated as “extras” instead of being built right into the fabric of an organization’s culture, they are nothing more than a Band-Aid, barely disguising the underlying chronic stress and eroding the nonprofits ability to meet its mission. This session will share the latest thinking on well-being in the nonprofit workplace based on the presenter's book “The Happy Healthy Nonprofit: Strategies for Impact without Burnout.” Going beyond a narrow focus on physical health and wellness, the session will share examples and insights from nonprofits that have created and implemented a culture of well-being in the workplaces that supports results.
This document discusses self-care in end-of-life care. It defines self-care as maintaining one's usual practices to deal with problems independently. Exploring self-care empowers patients to learn about their condition and identify support needs. Benefits of self-care for cancer patients include improved health, reduced symptoms, and feeling in control. However, psychological distress and caregiver strain can prevent self-care. Key self-care strategies discussed are maintaining normality, preparing for death, managing physical symptoms, accepting the illness, and relying on social support from family and other patients. The document emphasizes empowering patients through self-care.
This is a presentation I did for the OTAT program at Cuyahoga Community College on flexor and extensor tendon lacerations. I also discuss, briefly, the application of certain aspects of occupational therapy's domain as outlined in the OTPF. I collected data from scholarly as well as non-scholarly resources. I hope you find this to be helpful.
This is a presentation for student nurses helping them to learn ways to live stress free during nursing school and carry those techniques to their future profession as nurses.
Dorothea Orem developed the Self-Care Deficit Theory of Nursing, which has three related parts: the theory of self-care, theory of self-care deficit, and theory of nursing systems. The theory proposes that nursing is needed when an individual is unable to independently meet their self-care needs. Orem identified different types of self-care requisites and proposed systems for how nurses can help meet patient's self-care needs either wholly, partly, or through education. The theory provides a framework for nursing practice, education, and research. It has been widely used and has influenced nursing practice and education.
The document summarizes strategies for nonprofit leaders to practice self-care and avoid burnout. It discusses the importance of self-care, symptoms of burnout, and how to create a self-care plan. The agenda includes explaining why self-care is important, understanding burnout, creating a self-care plan through group discussions, and establishing self-care habits and accountability partners. Attendees are encouraged to start small, sustainable self-care habits to prevent burnout and bring self-care practices to their organizations.

This document discusses techniques for photographing retinoblastoma in children using various camera types. It notes that while newer digital cameras and smartphones aim to produce beautiful photos, their features like flash reduction can interfere with detecting leukocoria. The "Granny Test" is described as the standard approach using an analog camera with flash in a dim room from different angles. However, cell phone cameras are not always successful due to their LED flashes. The document emphasizes that any detected leukocoria requires examination, and that fundoscopy remains the gold standard.
This document summarizes research on foveal sparing in patients with Stargardt disease. It finds that 13 of 149 Stargardt patients showed foveal sparing. Most had late onset of symptoms after age 50 and initial vision loss. Genetic analysis found various mutations in the ABCA4 gene in these patients. Imaging like autofluorescence and OCT scans revealed atrophy surrounding the spared fovea. Possible causes of foveal sparing discussed are milder mutations, influence of modifier genes, anatomical differences in the fovea, and roles of Muller cells and photoreceptor distribution. The findings provide insight into pathogenic pathways in foveal sparing Stargardt disease.

met een dementie, allen gevolgd tot
overlijden

perspective: a review of the literature. International Psychogeriatrics 2007; 19: 1021-1039.
13. Lijden bij dementie: hoe te herkennen?
• Discomfort Scale Dementia of the Alzheimer Type
(DS-DAT)
15. Hoe meten we pijn bij mensen met
dementie?
• Numerieke schaal
• PACSLAC-D
• PAINAD
• REPOS
16.
17.
18. Resultaten
• Van de 117 onderzochten mensen met een dementie,
had 47% aanwijzingen voor pijn gemeten met de
PACSLAC-D
bemoeilijkt of verhindert‟
20. Onderzoek naar het niet instellen van
kunstmatige vocht- en voedseltoediening
• 190 dementiepatiënten (meestal gevorderde
dementie)
• 32 verpleeghuizen
• Bij 178 was kunstmatige vocht en voedseltoediening
niet gestart, bij 12 wel
22. Beloop van onwelbevinden
• Bij het moment van de
besluitvorming was de mate van
onwelbevinden het grootst, maar
deze daalde in de loop van de
dagen daarna
• Er waren erg grote verschillen
tussen de patiënten
Pasman, 2005
24. Resultaten
• 7 onderzoeken in de literatuur
• De meesten hebben gekeken naar sterfte en
voedingsparameters, geen enkele naar kwaliteit van
leven
• Belangrijkste resultaten:
o Geen effect op overleving
o Geen effect op voedingsparameters
o Geen effect op decubitus
