Honor Code
• Berkeley College is committed to supporting
its mission to provide an educational
experience designed to develop professional
competencies including habits of personal and
professional integrity.
• The College expects all members of its
community - students, faculty, and staff-to act
honestly in all situations.
Actions of Academic Dishonesty
• Cheating, intentionally using, or attempting to use unauthorized materials,
information, or study aids in any academic exercise.
• Fabricating information or citations in any academic exercise.
• Intentionally or knowingly helping or attempting to help another student to violate
a provision of the Berkeley honor code of academic integrity.
• Committing plagiarism – the deliberate adoption or reproduction of ideas, words,
or statements of another person as one’s own without acknowledgement of the
true author.
• Downloading files from the internet and presenting them as one’s own.
• Intentionally sharing information or collaborating with other individuals in an
academic exercise when such actions are not specifically approved by the course
instructor.
Reporting and Adjudicating
Student Infractions of the Honor Code
Berkeley College has adopted a policy designed to increase
the awareness of Academic Integrity across campuses and to
implement a system for reporting, adjudicating, and
instituting corrective remedies for breaches of the Student
Honor Code.
The implementation of academic integrity across our
campuses depends upon faculty members reporting student
infractions and requesting remedial measures for students via
the assistance of Student Development and the Academic
Support Center.

Academic Integrity Report
• Faculty should promptly complete a formal report clearly indicating 
the student’s infraction and the instructor’s penalty for that 
infraction.  The instructor must inform the student by reviewing the 
report with him/her.  Both the instructor and student must sign the 
report. 
• The instructor’s report, original or copy, must be submitted to the 
Student Development Office for referral and follow-up measures 
designed to correct the student’s behavior.   
• Faculty can obtain the Instructor’s Report from either the Faculty 
Orientation or the CELT Organization.

Use of the report regarding infractions of
cheating or plagiarism
• First offense by student: in addition to the faculty penalty, the following corrective measures are
mandatory for all students:
Exam cheating—students must take a tutorial in study techniques and test taking tips in the ASC.
Plagiarism—students must take a tutorial in MLA documentation in the ASC.
• Second offense (prior reported incidence of cheating or plagiarism): repeat tutorial in the ASC and
counseling by Student Development.
• Third offense (two prior reported incidents of cheating or plagiarism): automatic referral for adjudication
by the Associate Provost, Faculty Affairs. A third offense will result in the student being placed on
suspension for an academic quarter or dismissal from the college.
• Students will be advised that they have one week to arrange for their tutorial with the Academic Support
Center. If possible, completion of the tutorial and/or counseling should take place within the current
quarter.

  • 2. Honor Code • Berkeley College is committed to supporting its mission to provide an educational experience designed to develop professional competencies including habits of personal and professional integrity. • The College expects all members of its community - students, faculty, and staff-to act honestly in all situations.
  • 3. Actions of Academic Dishonesty • Cheating, intentionally using, or attempting to use unauthorized materials, information, or study aids in any academic exercise. • Fabricating information or citations in any academic exercise. • Intentionally or knowingly helping or attempting to help another student to violate a provision of the Berkeley honor code of academic integrity. • Committing plagiarism – the deliberate adoption or reproduction of ideas, words, or statements of another person as one’s own without acknowledgement of the true author. • Downloading files from the internet and presenting them as one’s own. • Intentionally sharing information or collaborating with other individuals in an academic exercise when such actions are not specifically approved by the course instructor.
  • 4. Reporting and Adjudicating Student Infractions of the Honor Code Berkeley College has adopted a policy designed to increase the awareness of Academic Integrity across campuses and to implement a system for reporting, adjudicating, and instituting corrective remedies for breaches of the Student Honor Code. The implementation of academic integrity across our campuses depends upon faculty members reporting student infractions and requesting remedial measures for students via the assistance of Student Development and the Academic Support Center.

  • 8. Use of the report regarding infractions of cheating or plagiarism • First offense by student: in addition to the faculty penalty, the following corrective measures are mandatory for all students: Exam cheating—students must take a tutorial in study techniques and test taking tips in the ASC. Plagiarism—students must take a tutorial in MLA documentation in the ASC. • Second offense (prior reported incidence of cheating or plagiarism): repeat tutorial in the ASC and counseling by Student Development. • Third offense (two prior reported incidents of cheating or plagiarism): automatic referral for adjudication by the Associate Provost, Faculty Affairs. A third offense will result in the student being placed on suspension for an academic quarter or dismissal from the college. • Students will be advised that they have one week to arrange for their tutorial with the Academic Support Center. If possible, completion of the tutorial and/or counseling should take place within the current quarter.
