This document summarizes the achievements and lessons learned from the Agricultural Ontology Service (AOS) project from 2001 to 2006 and discusses next steps. Key achievements included developing the AGROVOC concept server, application profiles, and various subject ontologies. Lessons included the need for demand-driven ontology development and killer applications to drive standards adoption. Moving forward, the AOS envisions becoming a semantic space within the agricultural domain through networked data and service providers using common ontologies and standards.
