Dress for Success is dedicated to advancing the economic and social development of low-income women by providing career development programs and support. Through initiatives like the Simply Suited program and the Professional Women's Group, they help women secure jobs, retain positions, and develop essential life skills. Since 1999, they have served over 6,500 women, emphasizing community collaboration and volunteer involvement to empower economically disadvantaged women in the workforce.

2005 Dress for Success Cincinnati Women on the Move Fashion Show Program
- 2. OUR MISSION The missionof Dress for Success is to advance low-income women’s economic and social development and to encourage self-sufficiency through career development and employment retention. Dress for Success responds to the needs of our communities by providing programs that help economically disadvantaged women acquire jobs, retain their new positions and succeed in the mainstream workplace. OUR WORK In our Simply Suited program, each client receives one suit when she has an interview scheduled and a second suit when she obtains employment. No fees are ever charged to clients. We operate by referral and appointment only. Each client is assisted on a one-to-one basis by trained volunteers. More than 70 local agencies refer women to our Simply Suited program. These include a continually expanding array of not-for-profit and government agencies such as homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, job training programs, addiction treatment centers, literacy initiatives, and correctional facilities. Our job-retention and development program, the Professional Women's Group, has received recognition from the Department of Labor as an innovative and effective approach to job retention. The program assists the newly employed in surviving the first weeks and months of employment by providing education and structured support addressing life-skills issues that often interfere with the ability to succeed. The PWG addresses the emotional, physical and professional issues that women face as they strive to become self-sufficient and to succeed. Each month, PWG members attend seminars presented by community leaders and experts on such topics as: Rules of the Workplace, Financial Literacy, Work-Life Balance and Personal Development. Career Corner is Dress for Success Cincinnati’s career assistance program. The Career Corner is a program for PWG members who are seeking employment or are pursuing career advancement. Members are provided resources to create and update resumes, conduct job searches, and receive career guidance and counseling. OUR RESULTS – More than 6,500 women served since 1999 In 2004: 85% of PWG members retained their job 56% improved one or more life skills including: Raise in pay or promotion; Completed or started school/training program; Left public assistance; Improved credit; Opened a bank account

Join Dress for Success Cincinnati’s Young Professionals Board, a social and networking group for women that helps raise funds and friends for Dress for Success Cincinnati. Donate new or nearly new interview appropriate women’s suits and know that you are helping another woman succeed. Train to be a personal shopper and help women choose appropriate apparel for their interviews and work settings. Speak at a Professional Women’s Group meeting to teach a skill that will assist others in moving up the career ladder. Mentor a Professional Women’s Group member by engaging in a structured mentoring program and provide specific career development guidance over time. Become a mock interviewer by providing a realistic interview experience as well as constructive feedback to job-seeking clients. Host Professional Women’s Group meetings for a year by providing a professional meeting space and refreshments one evening a month. Organize a suit drive in your office/ community. - 15. My thanks toyou and everyone who supports Dress for Success Cincinnati. This program was instrumental in giving me the hope that I needed to hold my head up high as I began not only my new job search, but my new life. After being incarcerated for 3 years to protect my boyfriend from facing serious drug charges, I was very nervous about my future. Who would want to hire an ex-felon? Even if I did get hired, I didn’t count on it being much of a job. After having modeled for Ebony Fashion Fair and working for American Express, I felt like I’d be stuck in entry level positions for the rest of my life. Then, one day, I went to Dress for Success for my first suit. After picking out my suit and accessories, I looked in the mirror and felt a glimmer of hope. I looked good and started feeling even better. I now work for WCIN 1480 AM as a Senior Account Executive and the Gospel Director. You can hear me on air every Sunday morning. I am honored to represent Dress for Success in the 2005 Women on the Move: A Fashionable Afternoon fashion show and luncheon. I hope that my story inspires the thousands of women who find themselves in similar positions to look to organizations like Dress for Success Cincinnati for the help and guidance they need to succeed in their lives. I also hope that my story inspires thousands of donors, foundations and corporations to recognize how important Dress for Success Cincinnati is to our community and the vital role that it plays in improving women’s lives.
