Unlike other 24 volunteer events (Code it Forward, Hackathons),
the Design-a-thon model focuses the time and energy of a group
of media professionals on the design challenges of a single non-
profit, resulting in a significant amount of quality work, delivered
overnight.
The Cause
What is a Design-a-thon?
DESIGN-A-THON NASHVILLE © 2017
For the Non-profit:
•	Tens of thousands of dollars worth of professional
services delivered overnight
•	Drives strategic alignment (stakeholders participate in
the process)
•	Builds marketing momentum by leveraging the novelty
of the Design-a-thon event in the media
•	New sources of support
For participants:
•	Professional development
•	Builds community
•	Feels great to do so much so quickly
The Benefit
How does the Design-a-thon help?

The Deliverables
OSDTN Before the Design-a-thon
As Tennessee’s only recognized Veteran Services Center, Operation Stand Down exists to
engage, equip, and empower veterans. We provide services for the Veteran who just processed out and the Veteran who served in long
ago wars: employment, legal aid, benefits counseling, financial empowerment, transportation,
computer resources, service referrals, family support, transitional housing, and basic needs.
Each Veteran is different. As the only Veteran-focused agency in Middle Tennessee, we are
uniquely equipped to serve the 35,294 Veterans in Davidson County and the 25,000 Veterans
who came to Tennessee in 2015. Each month 400 service members separate from Ft.
Campbell and our opportunities for serving those heroes from the Global War on Terror are
endless.
Quite simply, we couldn’t do this work without you. Thank you for generously giving of your time,
talents, and treasures. In combat, there’s a practice of having a battle buddy. This fellow service
member was there to help you get back safely. Your gift of XX will help us do NN. The 20 bags
your Girl Scout troop stuffed will help us serve XX veterans. Etc.
Thank you for being a battle buddy to our returning heroes and for helping us make sure
every veteran we serve can transition from successful military service to an active civilian life.
