This document summarizes the importance of conducting regular reviews of a business to ensure legal protections are in place. It recommends businesses evaluate potential threats and address long-standing concerns. Specifically, it suggests reviewing:
1) Estate planning documents like wills to ensure a business can continue operating and family is protected if an owner dies.
2) The legal structure of a business to confirm personal and business liabilities are separate and what will happen if an owner defaults on personal guarantees of business debts.
3) Ownership arrangements to determine if a partner can buy out an owner's share or a spouse can continue owning the business if an owner dies.
4) Insurance policies to ensure adequate life insurance is in place

Ridley & Hall have been shortlisted for two awards recognizing their family law team and a partner. The firm has also invested in speech recognition technology to improve efficiency and customer service. A recent court case involved a missing man from Huddersfield who has been presumed dead after more than 8 years, against his family's wishes.

If operators do not act now to develop applications that utilize their networks, they risk becoming just a "dumb pipe" utility provider.

One Community held its AGM on September 22, 2021 to summarize activities from 2020-2021, a year heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization adapted many services to operate remotely or in new ways to continue supporting the community. This included delivering food, prescriptions and activity packs; providing telephone companionship; and recruiting volunteers for testing and vaccine clinics. Construction of a new building was ongoing with a planned completion in January 2022. The organization also launched a community lottery in March 2021 to support local groups. The Kleeneze option
In today's society, a secure income - a job for life - may no longer be available from conventional employment. If you have suffered redundancy, and particularly if you are over 40, you may know how difficult this can be. Most people will admit to being dissatisfied with their level of income, especially in relation to the free time they enjoy.
The current trend of working from home, part-time working and job-sharing is an indication of how many people wish to escape the "employment trap".

The Forest YMCA is seeking a £30,000 partnership from Kind & Co to fund their events program over three years. In return, Kind & Co would receive branding and networking opportunities at Forest YMCA's growing number of fundraising events. Alternatively, Kind & Co could donate £15,000 to directly support Forest YMCA's youth programs for 300 local youth. A partnership would allow Kind & Co to boost its community profile while helping Forest YMCA achieve its mission of serving youth.

The Cheryl Homersham Award is
an important company award that
was created in memory of long-
serving Victorian employee Cheryl
Homersham who sadly passed
away in 2001. This special award
acknowledges those employees
who go above and beyond the
expectation of their role and
assist NHP in delivering excellent
customer service to other members
of staff and our customers.
The wire recently caught up with
the respective winners of the
2012 Cheryl Homersham Award
including National winner Sharon
Neven and each of the State winners to get their reaction to winning the award
and what it means to them. Much like previous winners in years gone by, it
appears the ‘out of the blue’ phone call from Lloyd Thomas to inform them of
their Award is a moment to remember!
Sharon Neven (Sales Operations Officer – National Winner)
“Jane Goode (Personal Assistant
to Managing Director & CEO -
Richmond) rang me and told me
Lloyd wanted to see me. “Oh No!” I
thought, “Should I pack up my things
now?”. To my surprise, Lloyd told
me I had won the National Cheryl
Homersham Award.
To win the award means a great
deal to me, not only to recognise my
contribution to NHP but I hope it also
reflects the great relationships I have
with my team mates in Australia and
New Zealand. I like to think my team
mates are my good friends too!
I was lucky enough to have known Cheryl and remember her as a real fire cracker!
She was great fun and I know the success of the Children’s Christmas party each
yearwasreallyimportanttoher.ItmeantalottomethatDebbieandKimwerehere
at NHP to see me receive the award. As I said on the day, we should remember that
although the award is a great honour in their Mum’s name, it is also a reminder that

David Luey (Customer Service Representative – NZ Winner)
“On December 19 my phone rang and I saw Lloyd Thomas’ name appear on the display - I
thought to myself - ‘he must be looking for one of the other staff in our branch’.
On answering the phone and to be personally told by Lloyd that I was the winner of the
2012 Cheryl Homersham for New Zealand, it took a minute to really sink in. To find out I was
nominated was a privilege, but to be the winning recipient for NZ was a huge surprise and
honour considering the calibre of the other NZ nominees.
Later that day I was presented with the Framed Citation on behalf of NHP from Robert Todd (Sales Manager,
Central - Wellington) in front of the Wellington staff. That will go down as one of the most memorable days for
me with NHP”.
Kirsty Sloss (Branch Coordinator – QLD Winner)
“I literally had a heart attack when I saw Lloyd Thomas pop up on my Desktop. Not many
situations render me speechless, but this experience certainly did. It was an honour to receive
this award for QLD, and a fantastic feeling to know that the contribution of individuals within
NHP do not go unnoticed.
We are all a vital part of the team, and no role or rank is more important than the person
sitting beside us. I have been with NHP in Rockhampton for seven years now, seen this branch
bothstruggleandflourish,andIcanhonestlysayitfeelslikefamily.Winningthisawardmeant
a lot to me, as it made me proud of myself after a very tough year. Bring on 2013!!”.
Luke Curtis (Business Development Industrial Projects – SA Winner)
“I am very proud and humbled by this award. I knew Cheryl well and she was a wonderful
person and helped me out many occasions.
I was eventually contacted by Lloyd after he rang a couple of times and only got my voice mail
because I missed the calls. I asked around as to who’s phone number it was as I could tell it was
a NHP number but I did not recognise it at all.
Eventually he rang again and surprised me with the good news”.
Grant Slade (Document Controller – Laverton Winner)
“We had just completed our office Kris Kringle celebrations and all in the office were in great
spirits. Ifortunatelyheardmyphoneringandracedtoanswerandwhenpickingupthereceiver
I noticed “Lloyd Thomas” as the display name and thought it was a seriously great prank by a
fellow NHP Staff member. After introducing myself, Lloyd asked how my day was at Laverton
and I quickly realised that this was Lloyd Thomas on the phone. After some further discussion
Lloyd informed me that I was the Laverton recipient of the Cheryl Homersham Award - I was
initially in shock! After composing myself I informed Lloyd what a great honor and privilege
it was to receive such an important and prestigious award such as the Cheryl Homersham Award. Lloyd again
congratulated me on receiving this award and recognition by my fellow NHP employees and looked forward to
presenting me with the award at the NHP Christmas party.
After manually cancelling some previously planned leave (award was a complete shock) I was able to attend
NHP Richmond offices to collect the award. After a quick phone call on the morning of the 24th to see if I was
in attendance as I was still on the system as “on leave” I was able to make my way over to Richmond with the
Laverton crew on the bus provided. My Daughter Brittni was able to attend on the day and it was fantastic to
have her come along and witness her Dad receive such a prestigious honour, and also to take photos for proof
at home! My Daughter was especially impressed with being welcomed in Lloyd’s opening address and being
made to feel part of the NHP Christmas events.

3. Sydney Santa!
Although it feels as if Christmas has come and gone in an instant, the
wire couldn’t let this photo slide away as easily!
This is Steven Reid’s (Production Supervisor – Sydney) office Santa
outfit – and what an outfit!
Sources close to Steve have suggested although he
may have struggled through the doorways, it was
well worth the tight squeeze!
Cheryl Homersham Award Winners 2012 cont...
It was a great honour to be able to accept the award on the day from Cheryl’s family and share the importance
and respect that this award carries at NHP. Both my daughter and I had a fantastic time at the awards and were
made to feel very welcome and offered seats on a full table so we could sit together, I even found out that Alex
Coslovich is a fully blown “Petrol Head”.
Lastly, I would like to thank all my fellow NHP employees whom I work with to have made this award possible, as
without their help/assistance/guidance I would not have been selected or nominated for this award; also many
thanks for the great laughs along the way and the many more to come. I will continually strive to display the
personal and professional qualities that Cheryl achieved during her employment at NHP with great honor and
respect, may 2013 be just as exciting.
PS: See you at BATHURST Alex!”
Sarah White (Customer Service Supervisor – NSW Winner)
“I was both surprised and excited to receive the news from Lloyd Thomas that I had won the
Cheryl Homersham Award for NSW.
There’s been a lot of change within the business, and I’m grateful to work with a group of very
supportive and responsive people.
To be recognised by my work mates and nominated for such an esteemed award is certainly
an honour. I am proud to receive this award”.
Andrew Webster (Sales Representative, Commercial Projects –WA Winner)
“It was a great surprise to receive a phone call from Lloyd Thomas who explained the reason
for the call and congratulated me on receiving this special award (Hopefully, there were no
speed cameras along the section of road during my initial conversation with Lloyd !).
I certainly had no idea that I had been nominated for the Cheryl Homersham award, so to
actually receive the award was totally unexpected and a real honour.
I feel fortunate to work with a great group of dedicated people and would like to thank all my
colleagues that nominated me for this award”.
Please note, the response of James Smillie (Victorian Winner) will be included in the next edition of the
wire (04/02/2013).

Jeff can for cancer…
The ‘100k’s for a Cure’ fundraiser is a great initiative run by the
Cancer Council Queensland that involves a 100km non-stop
walk with proceeds contributing to cancer research. Recently
the wire found out that NHP’s very own Jeff Pratt (Warehouse
Coordinator – Townsville)will be taking on this walk…
“The walk is 100km in distance and the course will run from the
townofRavenswoodtothetownofAyr”, Jeff said when speaking
to the wire.
“From 1pm May 31 to the afternoon of June 1, this will see 24-28hrs of non-stop walking across 50km of dirt
road, cows, goats and countless telegraph poles as well as 50 km of sealed road”, he continued. Good luck Jeff!

7. This week we will be sharing a few tips on setting goals and the best way to achieve these goals.
1. Examine your present situation- assess what is important to you and what actions you need to take to
achieve this.
2. Make sure that your goals are realistic and achievable.
3. Break your goals down into components so that you are able to achieve them one step at a time.
4. Reward yourself for achieving your goals.
5. Learn to have a positive attitude towards failure and accept that frustration isn’t always a negative
outcome. Think about how this frustration can assist you in changing elements to the process so that
this doesn’t happen again.
6. Work at effective strategies to dealing with stress and pressure. These can be as simple as taking a 20
minute walk outside, practicing yoga or even sharing your concerns with a friend.
7. Remember that being efficient is not the same as being effective. Someone who works hard and is
well organised but spends all their time on unimportant tasks may be efficient but not effective. To be
effective, you need to decide what tasks are urgent and important and to focus on these.

“Whilst on holiday at Rottnest Island (19km off

a control enclosure with an Allen-Bradley HMI
panel and a NHP Selector Switch”, said Brad.
“The original lighthouse on this site was Western
Australia’sfirstlighthouse.Thesecond,andcurrent,
is Australia’s first ever rotating beam lighthouse”.
2. Back towards the opposite side of the
country and while on holiday in Sydney,
Hasitha Naranpanawe (Web Communications
Supervisor – Richmond) made our second
sighting of an NHP Concept panelboard at
Parramatta Westfield car park…
3. For our third submission in the first NHPart of Life of 2013, we’ll stay in Sydney and head to the Power
House Museum where Gary Logan (Estimator, HAE – Sydney) spotted some vintage NHP Pushbuttons.
Looks like quality lasts! Thanks to all the submissions and we look forward to bringing you plenty more
