This document summarizes the different architectural styles of shophouses in Penang, Malaysia from the 1800s to 1970s. It describes 6 distinct styles: 1) Early "Penang" Style from 1800s-1850s with terra cotta roof tiles and timber features. 2) "Southern Chinese" Eclectic Style from 1840s-1900s with brick walls, ceramic vents and carved doors. 3) "Early Straits" Eclectic Style from 1890s-1910s with louvred windows and Chinese gables. 4) "Late Straits" Eclectic Style from 1920s-1940s with decorative plaster, tiles and overhanging ceilings. 5) Art Deco Style from 1930s
