Benjamin Wincup proposes an audio drama and book project called "Wild Dog, Book One of the Detective Harper Series." Rationale:
Throughout the year, I’ve learned lots of photography and photo editing skills so I
intend to implement those by making front covers and posters. At the start of the
year, there was a small project where we had to write and record a ghost story. I
thoroughly enjoyed it and it’s where I discovered my passion for audio. I learned a
lot of audio editing skills, such as reversing the audio and adding feedback to give
it a ghostly echo. Fading out was an important skill I also learned. I’m doing this
project so that I can build on the skills I learned in my Level 2 FMP where I did a
similar project.
Project Concept:
I will be writing and producing an audio drama about a detective from England
who is investigating a series of murders in and around a fictional North American
town called Hathlan. I will also be writing two chapters, a blurb, making an
advertising poster, a hardback sleeve and a digital icon for the book itself. I will be
recording all the dialogue and the noises myself, the same with taking pictures
and editing. I will need to research previous audio dramas and books to look at
conventions, whilst also looking at covers to find inspiration. The concept at its
base level is heavily influenced by the works of HP Lovecraft and certain episodes
of Doctor Who, written by Steven Moffat and Neil Gaiman. I will need to do
individual interviews to identify the kind of content my intended audience prefers in
posters, covers and the audio. I considered making a merchandise range using
Redbubble, but I scrapped that idea as most book series have fan-made
merchandise.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I will conduct peer reviews and upload it to YouTube. From there, I’ll get family
and friends to share the project and answer a few questions so that I can get a
broad but detailed list of reviews. I will conduct an ongoing evaluation via. A
development diary to track my progress and see if things go wrong. I will also
compare my work to existing products such as famous books and popular audio
dramas.
