C Directions: Read the text below. Then read the statements that follow it and mark them
as T (True), F (False) or NI (No Information).
Safe as Houses
Every day, there are news reports of burglaries and no neighbourhood is completely safe. However, there are a lot
of things that you can do to help protect your home.
The best way to protect your home is to simply lock your windows and doors – especially at night or when you’re
away. Unlike what we see in films, criminals don't usually go through every detail of a burglary. Instead, they often
simply move around a neighbourhood and look for unsecured homes. So, always lock your windows and doors.
But what about burglars who want to force their way into your home? First, having good, strong locks on your doors
and windows is important. It’s too risky for a burglar to spend a lot of time trying to open a lock. Also, you could put
up high fences around your property. Burglars usually prefer approaching houses through a back garden.
But don’t burglar alarms help too? Not all the time. Actually, research shows that burglars don’t really care about
them! Why? Well, most neighbours call the police 20 minutes after they hear a house alarm. That means burglars
have lots of time to run off with your possessions.
11 It is only necessary to lock windows and doors at night. ………
12 Most burglars do not plan their burglaries. ………
13 Most burglars do not carry the tools to open locks. ………
14 Burglar alarms are not always useful. ………
15 It takes the police around 20 minutes to arrive at a burgled house. ………

Then read the statements that follow it and mark them as T (True), F (False) or NI (No Information). Safe as Houses Every day, there are news reports of burglaries and no neighbourhood is completely safe. However, there are a lot of things that you can do to help protect your home. The best way to protect your home is to simply lock your windows and doors – especially at night or when you’re away. Unlike what we see in films, criminals don't usually go through every detail of a burglary. Instead, they often simply move around a neighbourhood and look for unsecured homes. So, always lock your windows and doors. But what about burglars who want to force their way into your home? First, having good, strong locks on your doors and windows is important. It’s too risky for a burglar to spend a lot of time trying to open a lock. Also, you could put up high fences around your property. Burglars usually prefer approaching houses through a back garden. But don’t burglar alarms help too? Not all the time. Actually, research shows that burglars don’t really care about them! Why? Well, most neighbours call the police 20 minutes after they hear a house alarm. That means burglars have lots of time to run off with your possessions. 11 It is only necessary to lock windows and doors at night. ……… 12 Most burglars do not plan their burglaries. ……… 13 Most burglars do not carry the tools to open locks. ……… 14 Burglar alarms are not always useful. ……… 15 It takes the police around 20 minutes to arrive at a burgled house. ……… Use of English D Directions: Read the text and circle the answer (A, B, C or D) that best suits each gap.
