The Future in our Living Rooms
Technology has never developed as quickly as it has in the early 21st century. For example, in recent years, we
have seen a revolution in personal communication technology with the introduction of the smartphone. But what
about the world of home entertainment?
Television has entertained us since the late 1920s. It has come far from the early days when we had a limited
number of channels in black and white. Now, we can buy expensive 50-inch TVs and browse hundreds of channels
– some even in 3D! And recently, a new generation of TVs has arrived: smart TVs.
Basically, smart TVs are TVs which can connect to the Internet. So, as well as being able to watch normal TV
channels, you can pay a provider to have access to a huge selection of TV shows and films. It means you’ll never
have to rent a DVD again! And, as long as you have a basic Wi-Fi connection, you can watch this content
whenever you want.
But that’s not all. Imagine changing the channel by telling the TV what you want to watch. Most smartphones
already come with voice-control software, but a lot of smart TVs have this feature, too. Years ago, we only saw this
technology in science-fiction films, but now it’s available in our living rooms! It goes to show that technology will
never stop advancing!
