This document summarizes a literature review of 16 articles on augmented reality (AR) applications in educational settings from 2017-2019. The review aims to classify the AR applications used into 5 types (discovery-based learning, object modeling, AR books, game-based learning, and skills training) and identify the benefits and learning subjects associated with each type. The review finds that "user satisfaction" is the most commonly cited benefit of AR across all application types and that AR has been used in a variety of subjects including biology, chemistry, mathematics, medicine, history, and engineering.
