• Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
(HASAW)
– The HASAW Act sets basic principles to be
followed by both employees and employers to
help ensure a safe working environment.

• Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and
Dangerous Occurrences Regulations
1995 (RIDDOR)
– This enables the HSE and local authorities to
identify risk in the workplace by placing a
legal obligation on employers, the self-
employed and people in control of premises to
report certain injuries.

• Control of Substances Hazardous to
Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH)
– These are designed to protect employees
from hazardous substances that are stored or
used in the workplace.

• Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points
(HACCP)
– This protects consumers from contaminated
or unfit food. Very often emergency service
personnel will have to be fed on duty.
HACCP is a control measure that reduces
food poisoning.
