rooms, hallways, etc.

8. Chromebooks at Lunch/Recess
Store your Chromebook in your locker
during lunch and recess.
Avoid bringing your Chromebook into the
cafeteria or outside to recess. Also, avoid
placing it in the cubbies during lunch.
9. Quiz
Where does a majority of Chromebook damage
occur in 1:1 schools?
a. the bathroom
b. at home
c. in hallways
d. in classrooms
10. Answer
d. in classrooms
The #1 strategy to avoid Chromebook damage
in the classroom is to carry the machine with
TWO HANDS and a CLOSED LID,
even when moving only a few feet.
11. In the Classroom
Chromebook use in the classroom is simple:
FOLLOW YOUR TEACHER’S INSTRUCTIONS.
Only open tabs directed by your teacher, and
always ask permission before opening anything
additional.
Remember, your teacher can see all tabs you
have open through the teacher Dashboard, so
stick to his or her instructions.
(No, this is not Mr.
Calkins. It is just
another teacher with a
stick like the one Mr.
Calkins wields.)
12. Inappropriate Use
Behavior Examples
Off Task Usage Gaming, messaging, or web surfing during class time
Inappropriate
Content
Accessing information related to inappropriate topics
such as violence, drugs, or sexual content
Cyber Bullying Using technology for gossip, rumors, drama, threats,
harassment, or bullying
Academic Dishonesty Using technology to cheat and/or engage in plagiarism
Vandalism Destroying or otherwise purposefully damaging school
property
13. Bullying, etc.
SJHS does NOT tolerate behaviors including:
● bullying
● threats/intimidation
● harassment
● gossip/drama
● hate speech
Avoid these behaviors at all times, whether through
electronic or other means. Report any such behaviors
immediately to an adult.
15. Privacy … NOT!
The school can track EVERYTHING you do on
your Chromebooks (even web searches and
emails), so be careful what you use your
Chromebook for. Even if you clear your browsing
history, the school can still see it.
Inappropriate Chromebook use, inappropriate
emails, and/or inappropriate website use will
result in consequences according to the student
handbook.
16. What if I break my Chromebook?
Just like you are responsible for textbooks and
other school-owned equipment, you are
responsible for your Chromebook. If your
Chromebook is broken, it is your responsibility.
Immediately report broken devices to a teacher
or to the Library.
19. What if my Chromebook has a problem?
If your Chromebook isn’t functioning properly, the first
step is to take it to the Library for help.
Remember to ask for teacher
permission before leaving the
classroom to get help with your
Chromebook.
20. Ownership
Your Chromebook is YOURS to
use for YEARS. It is essential that
you care for the machine so it can
last you. All damage is your
responsibility, so take care.
21. Logging In
All usernames and passwords have a new
format. You have been provided with a label
containing your login information. If you forget
your username or password, ask a teacher or
someone in the office.
22. Contracts, Codes, & Forms
All students and parents must sign and submit
the following before checking out Chromebooks:
● SJHS Student Handbook Agreement
● Digital Citizenship Code
23. Chromebook Logistics
● Your Chromebook will be issued during 7th
period class.
● Each morning, you will pick up your
Chromebook between 8:05 & 8:20 in your
7th period classroom.
● At the end of the day, you will dock your
machine in the cart in your 7th period
classroom.
24. More Logistics
If you arrive to school late or need to check out
early, you may need to enter your 7th period
classroom to collect or dock your Chromebook.
Please do so in SILENCE so that you do not
disrupt any class in session. If the room is
locked, please check in at the front office.
