4. The construction of the fortress lasted for almost a century. Each of the 14 towers
buildings were named after the consuls who ruled Sugdeya (ancient Greek name
of Sudak)
5. In the 15th century the Turks captured the fortress, and later Russians . The
restoration works were carried out in the 70s of the 20th century, they allowed to
keep some towers intact and partially to restore the affected walls.
6. The castle has the Temple with the arcade. It was built by the Turks, who
wished to have a mosque, but the other owners of the fortress rebuilt the
mosque into the Orthodox Cathedral.
7. It is impossible to find more picturesque ruins than remnants of the Genoese
fortress all around the Europe. And even the ruins of the Rhine castles are
incomparable with them.
8. Since 2001 Genoese fortress, has become a venue of the annual festivals
collecting the best masters of the knight arts.
9. In general, the Genoese fortress in Sudak is a significant historical and cultural
value and is considered one of the most unique sights of the Crimea and the
feature of defensive architecture of ancient Tavria, reflecting the traditions
of X - XVIII centuries.
