safe and healthy working
conditions for working men and

WHAT IS
ACCIDENT?
An accident is an unintended, normally unwanted event that
was not directly caused by humans. The term accident implies
that nobody should be blamed, but the event may have been
caused by unrecognized or unaddressed risks.
SECTORS ACCIDENT CASE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
1. Manufacturing
● Worker dies stuck to machine.
● Petrol tank explosion
● Dead worker was hit by a hand grinder
● Worker died crushed between two objects
● Worker died falling from height
a. Instruction manuals for all machinery
must be available for review.
b. All machinery shall have safety guards
and hazard signs installed by the
manufacturer.
c. No machinery may be modified by any
worker who is not specifically trained in
the technical aspects of the machinery.
d. Make sure all employees have a complete
safety equipment while working
2. Mining
● Workers trapped due to mine cave-in
● Machinery explosion while working
a. Requires full planning and
communication before starting any work.
b. All risks must be assessed, including the
possibility of an accident. Try to eliminate
as much risk as possible. If the risk still
exists, give your team clear instructions
and educate them on how to reduce it.
c. All team members should have regular
safety training and get professional
training from high competent person
about machinery

3. Construction
 Workers buried in landslides
 Civilians are crushed by concrete

a. Observe all construction-related safety
signs and procedures. Employers should
ensure that construction worker actions
are subjected to a risk assessment.
b. Have a regular safety training and get
professional training from high
competent person.
c. Employees should constantly be ready to
expand their expertise by applying to
participate in construction-related
courses. This seeks to generate skilled and
efficient workers while they are on the job
so that the task goes smoothly and
accidents are avoided.
4. Agriculture and Forestry
 Employee was found drowned
 Farm workers were killed by a sickle blade
 A worker died after fall off from tractor
 Worker killed by 'Fabrication Yarder'
boom
a. Provide sufficient resources and training
to increase awareness and competency
among employees to work safely and
healthy under normal and emergency
conditions.
b. inculcate a safe and healthy work system
through consultation and participation
from employees, workers’ representatives,
students, contractors and relevant
stakeholders based upon understanding,
responsibility and self-regulation

5. Utility
 Victim was electrocuted while doing
service line installation from a house to a
utility pole
a. Ensure the workers know how to handle
the equipment
b. High competent person should be
available during installation process
c. Make sure anyone working with
electricity has sufficient skills, knowledge
and experience to do so.
d. Stop using equipment immediately if it
appears to be faulty
e. Ensure everyone looks for electrical wires,
cables or equipment near where they are
going to works
6. Storage, Transportation and
Communication
 Forklift accident
 Workers dead in a fire
 Electric shock
 Crushed by fall container when container
transferring process
 Falling from high place
a. The identification mark shall be clearly
labeled on the container using non-
erasable ink.
b. Containers containing chemicals and
simple materials burns should be labeled
to indicate type its contents.
c. Provide sufficient training for the workers
and issue a competency card for future
reference.
d. Assigned a competent person to do the
installation work.
e. Assigned safety officer on-site to monitor
work process and assess any potential
hazards.
f. Wear a safety attire whilst on duty.

7. Hotel and Restaurant
 Employees death by wall collapse
 A child died due to drowning
 Workers killed by electric shock
a. Have at least one first aid box and ABC
powder fire extinguisher.
b. Follow proper instructions from the
manufacturer or from high competence
person
c. Make sure the kids have their guardian
accompanying them.
d. Make clear instructions about safety pool
rules.
e. Enter the pool and make sure to recheck
the depth are suitable with the height.
f. Avoid working alone if you want to fix
electricity.
8. Financial, Insurance, Real Estate and
Business Services
 Employees asphyxiation in confined spaces
 Worker dies while repairing lift
 Student rode bicycle died and got protected
by insurance
a. Wear your PPE suits all the time and make
sure you have the PPE you need. Your last
line of defence should you come into
contact with a hazard on site. Safety boots
give you grip and protect your feet.
b. Follow construction safety sign procedures.
Make sure to use the right equipment and
have skills about what you will do.
c. Life insurance can be used to help pay for
final expenses after you pass away. This
may include funeral or cremation costs,
medical bills not covered by health
insurance.

9. Public Services and Statutory Authorities
 A district kadi died after being suspected of
drowning while undergoing diving
training.
 A food delivery man dies after hitting a
tree.
a. Make sure the diving equipment is working
properly.
b. Make sure briefing was conducted before
starting the training
c. Make clear instructions on the safety procedure
if having difficulties while diving.
d. Instructors should be available during the
training session.
10. Wholesale and Retail Trades
 Died falling from high place
 Died being caught in Goods Hoist (Goods
Lift)
 Fires and explosions
 Short circuit
a. Use a crane to hang banner at high place
b. Ensure the foldable staircase used is still in
good and stable condition.
c. Ensure the goods hoist is working properly
with proper maintenance and routine
checkup.
d. Put an emergency contact in case trapped
inside the goods hoist.
e. Make sure to make regular electrical
wiring maintenance by high competence
person.
CONCLUSION
OSHA is a crucial part as a
governing body to set healthy and
safe working guidelines for each of
the available work sectors, to
minimize the risks and potential
hazards. Therefore employers and
employees should take every safety
precautions that has been
prescribed so that every accident
can be avoided

  • 6. OSHA standards are a set of laws and regulations organized into 10 categories of sectors that listed in OSHA Malaysia: a. Agriculture and Forestry b. Constructions c. Manufacturing d. Mining e. Utility f. Transportation and Telecommunications g. Retail and Wholesale Trade h. Public Services & Statutory Authorities I. Hotel & Restaurant J. Financial, Insurance, Real Estate & Bussiness INTRODUCTION The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) sets and enforces standards to assure safe and healthy working conditions for working men and women
  • 8. WHAT IS ACCIDENT? An accident is an unintended, normally unwanted event that was not directly caused by humans. The term accident implies that nobody should be blamed, but the event may have been caused by unrecognized or unaddressed risks.
  • 9. SECTORS ACCIDENT CASE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES 1. Manufacturing ● Worker dies stuck to machine. ● Petrol tank explosion ● Dead worker was hit by a hand grinder ● Worker died crushed between two objects ● Worker died falling from height a. Instruction manuals for all machinery must be available for review. b. All machinery shall have safety guards and hazard signs installed by the manufacturer. c. No machinery may be modified by any worker who is not specifically trained in the technical aspects of the machinery. d. Make sure all employees have a complete safety equipment while working 2. Mining ● Workers trapped due to mine cave-in ● Machinery explosion while working a. Requires full planning and communication before starting any work. b. All risks must be assessed, including the possibility of an accident. Try to eliminate as much risk as possible. If the risk still exists, give your team clear instructions and educate them on how to reduce it. c. All team members should have regular safety training and get professional training from high competent person about machinery

Observe all construction-related safety signs and procedures. Employers should ensure that construction worker actions are subjected to a risk assessment. b. Have a regular safety training and get professional training from high competent person. c. Employees should constantly be ready to expand their expertise by applying to participate in construction-related courses. This seeks to generate skilled and efficient workers while they are on the job so that the task goes smoothly and accidents are avoided. 4. Agriculture and Forestry  Employee was found drowned  Farm workers were killed by a sickle blade  A worker died after fall off from tractor  Worker killed by 'Fabrication Yarder' boom a. Provide sufficient resources and training to increase awareness and competency among employees to work safely and healthy under normal and emergency conditions. b. inculcate a safe and healthy work system through consultation and participation from employees, workers’ representatives, students, contractors and relevant stakeholders based upon understanding, responsibility and self-regulation
  • 11. SECTORS ACCIDENT CASE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES 5. Utility  Victim was electrocuted while doing service line installation from a house to a utility pole a. Ensure the workers know how to handle the equipment b. High competent person should be available during installation process c. Make sure anyone working with electricity has sufficient skills, knowledge and experience to do so. d. Stop using equipment immediately if it appears to be faulty e. Ensure everyone looks for electrical wires, cables or equipment near where they are going to works 6. Storage, Transportation and Communication  Forklift accident  Workers dead in a fire  Electric shock  Crushed by fall container when container transferring process  Falling from high place a. The identification mark shall be clearly labeled on the container using non- erasable ink. b. Containers containing chemicals and simple materials burns should be labeled to indicate type its contents. c. Provide sufficient training for the workers and issue a competency card for future reference. d. Assigned a competent person to do the installation work. e. Assigned safety officer on-site to monitor work process and assess any potential hazards. f. Wear a safety attire whilst on duty.
  • 12. SECTORS ACCIDENT CASE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES 7. Hotel and Restaurant  Employees death by wall collapse  A child died due to drowning  Workers killed by electric shock a. Have at least one first aid box and ABC powder fire extinguisher. b. Follow proper instructions from the manufacturer or from high competence person c. Make sure the kids have their guardian accompanying them. d. Make clear instructions about safety pool rules. e. Enter the pool and make sure to recheck the depth are suitable with the height. f. Avoid working alone if you want to fix electricity. 8. Financial, Insurance, Real Estate and Business Services  Employees asphyxiation in confined spaces  Worker dies while repairing lift  Student rode bicycle died and got protected by insurance a. Wear your PPE suits all the time and make sure you have the PPE you need. Your last line of defence should you come into contact with a hazard on site. Safety boots give you grip and protect your feet. b. Follow construction safety sign procedures. Make sure to use the right equipment and have skills about what you will do. c. Life insurance can be used to help pay for final expenses after you pass away. This may include funeral or cremation costs, medical bills not covered by health insurance.
  • 13. SECTORS ACCIDENT CASE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES 9. Public Services and Statutory Authorities  A district kadi died after being suspected of drowning while undergoing diving training.  A food delivery man dies after hitting a tree. a. Make sure the diving equipment is working properly. b. Make sure briefing was conducted before starting the training c. Make clear instructions on the safety procedure if having difficulties while diving. d. Instructors should be available during the training session. 10. Wholesale and Retail Trades  Died falling from high place  Died being caught in Goods Hoist (Goods Lift)  Fires and explosions  Short circuit a. Use a crane to hang banner at high place b. Ensure the foldable staircase used is still in good and stable condition. c. Ensure the goods hoist is working properly with proper maintenance and routine checkup. d. Put an emergency contact in case trapped inside the goods hoist. e. Make sure to make regular electrical wiring maintenance by high competence person.
  • 14. CONCLUSION OSHA is a crucial part as a governing body to set healthy and safe working guidelines for each of the available work sectors, to minimize the risks and potential hazards. Therefore employers and employees should take every safety precautions that has been prescribed so that every accident can be avoided BY GROUP 2 SECTORS AND ACCIDENTS RELATED UNDER OSHA
