2. Process
• For my first experiment I made a scrolling
background for a side scroller, endless runner
or something similar to that. To start I created a
photoshop file that was 480 pixels wide and 80
pixels high. I then created some props with the
pencil tool set to one pixel, no respect for
continuity and size differences.
• I watched a video by a game artist in
preparation for this project which helped me
understand the pitfalls of the medium. Because
of this I knew that scale, shading and light are
all massively difficult to get right so I didn’t
bother with any of it, by making the piece
monochromatic and not at all to scale. This
meant that I could focus on getting used to the
process of going pixel by pixel and drawing in
general as I’m used to nether of these.

3. Reflection
• I’m confident I will include minimalistic design choices, like a limited
colour pallet. I want to do this as it compliments the intentionally
primitive nature of the art form; as well as making me work around its
limits like the devs of the pixel era would, hopefully making me think more
creatively about my work.
• I will also include a similar abstract / minimal style.
4. Process
• I created this cigarette as a
series of layers which were put
on a timeline and animated in
such a way to make it look like
a loading bar from an old
game.
5. Reflection
I will use the animation skills I learnt here to
animate the various things in my game.
