2. Task 2: Idea Development and Planning U9 2.1
You could create a mood board of images related to your product. They could be inspirational or visually interesting.
Analyse what you have gathered.
Decide on content and think about how you will structure your piece – consider the conventions of your chosen
style/genre, think about the best methods to appeal to your audience.
Finally work out a production schedule for the project. Once you have a final proposal, begin to plan how you intend to
realise your project and what you will need to create/collect.
Planning will vary depending on if you are doing a web series, podcast or a fanzine.
Web-series: A script, storyboard, organisational docs and clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
Fanzine: Content outline, visual style, pagination, organisational documents.
Podcast: Script, organisational docs, clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
4. Content:
I want my documentary to follow the faux-gorilla style used by Vice and other contempary documentary filmmakers. This style trades in the immense
inconsistency of real gorilla documentary shooting and the glamour of high budget documentaries to create a feeling of authenticity that are still able
to be produced reliably. I want my piece first and foremost to show the effect isolation can have on rural children so I would like the focus of the video
to be my interview with the children of snaith
5. Planning:
General Interview Questions:
Have you felt the effects of rural isolation?
Have you seen a rise in crime locally?
Do you think these two are linked?
(If they agree that there’s a problem) How would you solve the problem?
Interviewees:
Helen Miley (Local Counsellor/ Parent) Saturday
Jill Ullathorne (Parent/ Local worker) Sunday
Group of Kids (Various ~16 Years Olds) Monday
Interview Gear:
Camcorder/ Camara
2 Camara Batteries
2 SD Cards
Tripod
Audio Recorder and boom microphone
Notes
Interview Locations:

Ullathorne Household

Musical Concepts:
I’d like to compose a track or series of tracks for my final piece. I feel like backing music can entirely change the tone of a piece and I’d rather let my musical voice be
the arbiter of that tone than a stock music library. I’d like a mix of digital and analogue sound sources to reflect both the age of people involved and the area they’re
in. increased percussion, chaotic melodic passages and chord progressions and tempo at moments of excitement. More ambient sounds, repetitive passages and
lower tempo at calmer moments of the piece. My main inspiration would be Axel Kacoutié’s work with the Guardian’s Today in Focus theme and, particularly his
work for the recent Pegasus Project. I feel his work has a restraint necessary to the success of background music and a good sense of flow conducive to narration.
