This document provides an overview of King Asa's reign over Judah. It summarizes that Asa initially did what was right in God's eyes and removed idols from the land, for which God gave him victories over enemies. However, later in life when facing attacks from Israel's King Baasha, Asa took treasure from the temple to pay Syria's king for help rather than trusting in God. Asa had initial success but was warned this was foolish, and he faced future wars as result. His reign ended in illness as he no longer sought God.

Have you ever intended to do good, but the consequences were devastating? Where did you go wrong? How can you prevent, or at least limit, the negative consequences of good intentions?
What legacy, what lasting message do you want to pass on? Farewell addresses are enduring - George Washington's to the nation, General MacArthur's at West Point or before Congress, and in the Bible, Jacob's farewell blessings to his sons (Gen. 49), the apostle Paul's address to the Ephesian elders (Acts 20) and our Lord's farewell to His disciples (Jn. 13-17). This presentation is a study of Joshua's final farewell, at the age of 110, to a people he has lead and loved for more than 75 years. His final words are a call to commitment and covenant to the Lord God of Israel.

Each technological age has been marked by a shift in how the industrial platform enables companies to rethink their business processes and create wealth. In the talk I argue that we are limiting our view of what this next industrial/digital age can offer because of how we read, measure and through that perceive the world (how we cherry pick data). Companies are locked in metrics and quantitative measures, data that can fit into a spreadsheet. And by that they see the digital transformation merely as an efficiency tool to the fossil fuel age. But we need to stretch further…

Lessons from his Life: Courage, Encourage, Stress, Leadership, Blameless, Reforms, Endurance.

Book of Baruch, ancient text purportedly written by Baruch, secretary and friend of Jeremiah, the Old Testament prophet. The text is still extant in Greek and in several translations from Greek into Latin, Syriac, Coptic, Ethiopic, and other languages. The Book of Baruch is apocryphal to the Hebrew and Protestant canons but was incorporated in the Septuagint and was included in the Old Testament for Roman Catholics. The work is a compilation of several authors and is the only work among the apocrypha that was consciously modeled after the prophetic writings of the Old Testament.
The Greek version of Esther, found in the Septuagint, contains six additions not found in the Hebrew version of Esther that is in most Bibles. These additions to Esther consist of a prologue, prayers by Mordecai and Esther, the texts of the decrees from King Ahasuerus, amplifications to, and elaborations of, the narrative, and a postscript.
Partick illustrates with references from the Bible, that "Peace of Mind" is possible even in today’s restless world if we do our part.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

King Asa was the third
king of Judah after the
nation split.
Asa did that which was
good and right in the
eyes of the Lord.
God gave him a great victory over a
1,000,000 man army from Ethiopia.
3. 1 Kings 15 11 And Asa did that which was right in
the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father.
12 And he took away the sodomites out of the land,
and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.
When we would do right, we must
3
first turn from wrong; repent.
Does not make
you right.
4. 4
1 Kings 15:13 And also Maachah his mother, even her
he removed from being queen, because she had
made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her
idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron.
Right starts at home.
It matters not how good you are at church,
if you are a devil at home, you are wrong.
5. Perhaps the hardest sin to deal with
5
is sin in your own family.
Now understand, Asa was king; he had power
and authority over his grandma.
We don’t have authority over our parents or
brothers and sisters, or our wife or husband.
But we don’t have to participate in their sins.
6. Just because something is difficult does not mean
6
that we are excused from obeying God.
Obey The Lord in things big and small, difficult
or easy.
He is the Lord, our God.
7. 14 But the high places were not removed:
nevertheless Asa's heart was perfect (completely)
with the LORD all his days.
He didn’t get everything done that he wanted to do,
7
but he didn’t tolerate idolatry in the nation.
His heart was completely toward God.
His only desire was to serve the True God.
8. A divided mind will bring sin
into our lives, and it will put
distance between us and God.
Be single-mindedly devoted
James 4 8 Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh
to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify
your hearts, ye double minded.
8
unto The Lord.
9. 15 And he brought in the things which his father had
dedicated, and the things which himself had
dedicated, into the house of the LORD, silver, and
gold, and vessels.
These are things taken in battle and set aside
9
to be kept in the house of The Lord.
10. 16 And there was war between
Asa and Baasha king of Israel
all their days. 17 And Baasha
king of Israel went up against
Judah, and built Ramah, that
he might not suffer any to go
out or come in to Asa king of
Judah.
These wars began in the thirty-sixth year
10
of Asa’s reign. 2 Chronicles 16:1
11. 11
18 Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that
were left in the treasures of the house of the
LORD, and the treasures of the king's house, and
delivered them into the hand of his servants: and
king Asa sent them to Benhadad, the son of
Tabrimon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that
dwelt at Damascus, saying,
Asa is making a huge mistake in doing this.
Even good men can fail in trusting God.
12. 19 There is a league between me and thee, and
between my father and thy father: behold, I have
sent unto thee a present of silver and gold; come
and break thy league with Baasha king of Israel,
that he may depart from me. 20 So Benhadad
hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of
the hosts which he had against the cities of Israel,
and smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abelbethmaachah,
and all Cinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali.
12
A pact with the devil.
13. God had given Asa wonderful victories
13
over far greater foes than Baasha.
Why now did he try to solve it himself?
Human Nature
Human Nature is corrupt.
14. 14
21 And it came to pass,
when Baasha heard
thereof, that he left off
building of Ramah, and
dwelt in Tirzah.
Baasha heard of
Benhadad’s attack on
his northern cities.
15. 15
22 Then king Asa made a
proclamation throughout
all Judah; none was
exempted: and they took
away the stones of
Ramah, and the timber
thereof, wherewith
Baasha had builded; and
king Asa built with them
Geba of Benjamin, and
Mizpah.
Now Asa controls
the border.
His plan worked.
16. 2 Chronicles 16 7 And at that time Hanani the seer
came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him,
Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and
not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the
host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.
8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims (Libyans)
a huge host, with very many chariots and
horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the
LORD, He delivered them into thine hand.
16
But, did his plan really work?
17. 9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro through-out
the whole earth, to shew Himself strong in the
behalf of them whose heart is perfect (completely)
toward Him. Herein thou hast done foolishly:
therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
10 Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in
a prison house; for he was in a rage with him
because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of
the people the same time.
17
His plan worked, but God
was not pleased.
18. 2 Chronicles 16 12 And Asa in the thirty and ninth
year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his
disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he
sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.
13 And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the
one and fortieth year of his reign.
Asa’s life started well, but ended in tragedy,
18
because he quit trusting in God.
He began to think that he had won the
victories; he wanted credit.
19. 19

our Lord Jesus Christ;
That’s how we keep it straight.
