This document is a sermon discussing the story of King Rehoboam of Judah from the Bible. It summarizes that under Rehoboam's leadership, the people of Judah committed many sins including idolatry, despite coming from the line of David. As a result of their sins, the nation lost wealth and prosperity when they were defeated by the Egyptians. The sermon encourages repentance from sin in order to restore relationship with God.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.
In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.

King Jeroboam in the
north is dead.
Although he has a son on
the throne at the moment,
his dynasty is over.
Sin
3. 3
1 Kings 14:21 And Rehoboam the son of Solomon
reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one
years old when he began to reign, and he reigned
seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the
LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to
put His Name there. And his mother's name was
Naamah (pleasant; delightful) an Ammonitess.
41 + 17 = 58
He was raised by an Ammonite mama.
What do you reckon he worshipped?
4. 22 And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and
they provoked Him to jealousy with their sins
which they had committed, above all that their
fathers had done. 23 For they also built them high
places, and images, and groves, on every high hill,
and under every green tree. 24 And there were also
sodomites in the land: and they did according to all
the abominations of the nations which the LORD
cast out before the children of Israel.
4
All of this was under Rehoboam’s leadership.
5. 5
Jeroboam used the excuse
that he didn’t want the people
to go to Jerusalem to worship,
Because they might decide to
stay and he would lose his
kingdom.
Rehoboam made no excuse; he just loved sin.
David’s grandson, and yet totally backslid, and
led the nation into gross sin and idolatry.
6. David committed sins, but he was always quick to
6
repent and remain in fellowship with God.
Solomon backslid, but never fully
cast God behind his back.
And yet God was angry with him.
Now his son, Rehoboam, is not only
living in sin, but he has led the people
into idolatry and sexual perversions.
7. 25 And it came to pass in the fifth
year of king Rehoboam, that
Shishak king of Egypt came up
against Jerusalem: 26 And he
took away the treasures of the
house of the LORD, and the
treasures of the king's house; he
even took away all: and he took
away all the shields of gold
which Solomon had made. An evil man used
by God to punish
the backslidden
7
nation.
Solomon’s pride
8. Sin brought defeat to the nation.
Solomon had left the nation one of the richest
8
nations on earth when he died.
In that he took great pride.
5 years after his death, all of that wealth
was taken by Shishak of Egypt.
Sin and backsliding have consequences.
9. 27 And king Rehoboam made in their stead brasen
shields, and committed them unto the hands of the
chief of the guard, which kept the door of the
king's house. 28 And it was so, when the king went
into the house of the LORD, that the guard bare
them, and brought them back into the guard
chamber.
9
Bronze replaced gold.
Not much of a trade.
10. 29 Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all
that he did, are they not written in the book of the
chronicles of the kings of Judah? 30 And there was
war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their
days. 31 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and
was buried with his fathers in the city of David.
And his mother's name was Naamah (pleasant;
delightful) an Ammonitess. And Abijam his son
reigned in his stead.
10
11. God had given peace and prosperity to the nation
11
under David and Solomon.
But now in one generation they have lost both.
Solomon was not content with the beautiful
Israeli women; he wanted the forbidden.
Now his son followed the teaching
of his mother into sin.
Repentance is the only hope!
12. Matthew 4 17 From that time Jesus began to preach,
and to say, Repent: for the Kingdom of Heaven is
at hand.
Psalm 51 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken
spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou
wilt not despise.
True humility and repentance
will restore fellowship with God.
12
13. Isaiah 55 6-7 Seek ye the LORD while He may be
found, call ye upon Him while He is near: Let the
wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man
his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD,
and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God,
for He will abundantly pardon.
There is a time for repentance,
but that time is not forever.
13
Repent today!
14. 2 Corinthians 6 2 … behold, now is the accepted
time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
Sin brings terrible loss into our lives.
But true repentance restores all our loss
14
and brings blessing beyond measure.
15. Isaiah 61 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in
Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of
joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the
spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees
of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that
He might be glorified.
Turning to sin brought great
15
loss to Israel.
Repentance would bring gain
beyond measure.
17. 1 John 1 8-9 If we say that we have no sin, we
deceive ourselves, and the Truth is not in us. If we
confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
17
God will forgive your every sin.
Turn to Him, be truly sorrowful for your sins, and
ask God to forgive in Jesus’ Name.
18. What one generation tolerates, the next
18
generation will likely embrace.
Mamas and daddys, you are training your children.
They will most likely follow your example.
Train them up in the Way of God!
