1. The deception of – Exception
Josh 9:3-4
3) And when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what
Joshua had done unto Jericho and to Ai,
4) They did work wilily, and went and made as if
they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks
upon their asses, and wine bottles, old, and rent, and
bound up;
O, what a tangled web we weave when
first we practice to deceive!
Josh 9:22
22) And Joshua called for them, and he spake unto
them, saying, Wherefore have ye beguiled us,
saying, We are very far from you; when ye dwell
among us?
Blame does not lie with being deceived but in
allowing the deception.

2. A major means of deception is the excuse of
“exception”. (exceptional)

9. Humility
IV. The deceptionof “exception” in religious
worship 1Kings 12:1-2
Worldly religious worship is a deception of death
to others.
1Kgs 14:1-2
1) At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.
2) And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee,
and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to
be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh:
behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me
that I should be king over this people.

her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said,
Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou
thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with

house: and when thy feet enter into the city, the
child shall die.

exception to accountability to God.
