The document discusses Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem as described in Luke 19:28-42. It provides context from Old Testament prophecies about the coming Messiah or King. When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds welcomed him by saying "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord." This was a reference to prophecies that foretold the coming Messiah.

4. Luke 19:28, Blessed Is The King
• NAU Luke 19:28 After He had said these things, He was going on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
29 When He approached Bethphage and Bethany, near the mount that is called Olivet, He sent
two of the disciples, 30 saying, "Go into the village ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find
a colt tied on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. 31 "If anyone asks you,
'Why are you untying it?' you shall say, 'The Lord has need of it.'" 32 So those who were sent went
away and found it just as He had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners said to
them, "Why are you untying the colt?" 34 They said, "The Lord has need of it." 35 They brought it
to Jesus, and they threw their coats on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 As He was going, they were
spreading their coats on the road. 37 As soon as He was approaching, near the descent of the
Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice
for all the miracles which they had seen, 38 shouting: "BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE
NAME OF THE LORD; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest! [I could only find this in Luke] “ 39 Some
of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, rebuke Your disciples." 40 But Jesus
answered, "I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!" 41 When He approached
Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it, 42 saying, "If you had known in this day, even you,
the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes.

28. Palm Sunday – Jesus Last Journey,
By Jonathan Lipnick , Holy Land Studies
• Having raised Lazarus, Jesus makes his way down the Mount of Olives
entering Jerusalem on Sunday. We are told that the crowds wave palm
branches and shout “Hosanna!” (Mark 11:9). This is rather odd because
it is happening a week before Passover. In the Jewish tradition the
waving of palm branches and the singing of Hosanna takes place during
the autumn Festival of Booths (Sukkot), not the spring Festival of
Passover. The explanation for this apparent confusion might be found in
the original meaning of the words found in the Gospels. Hosanna comes
from the Hebrew “hoshia-na” meaning “save us, please” found in Psalm
118:25. The original name of Jesus in Hebrew, Yeshua, is built on the
same root: to save. So the crowds have spontaneously devised a new
ritual, welcoming the messianic savior to Jerusalem using a well-known
phrase out of season. The waving of palm branches in April would have
struck bystanders as very odd until they realized that Hosanna matches
the name of Jesus perfectly. It would then be clear that indeed this is
“the one who comes in the name of the Lord” (Ps 118:26).

A Summary Of The Kingdom
• This earthly kingdom was given to Adam (Gen. 1:28).
• Adam lost the kingdom at the Fall (Gen. 3).
• God chose Israel for His theocracy (Gen. 12, Ex. 19)

• Christ allows the devil to be the god of this world now, because “men prefer
darkness rather than light”. (John 1:5, 3:19, Heb. 2:14, Eph 2:2, 2Cor 4:4).
• Christ will return when Israel repents and reign as King from Jerusalem and
over all the earth (Rev 20, 1 Cor. 15:26).

• The Archaeological Study Bible says, "Jesus entrance into
Jerusalem on Palm Sunday represents one of the most
significant public events of his ministry. Each of the four Gospels
records this incident, though with distinctive details... Central to
each report is Jesus' deliberate choice to enter the city riding up
on a donkey. Scholars have noted three significant points
regarding this chosen mount. These aspects are not mutually
exclusive, and each contributes to a more complete
appreciation of the meaning of Jesus' symbolic action and it's
decisive consequences:
• The donkey was a traditional mount for kings and rulers in the
ancient near East...; Jesus was therefore making an implicit
claim to be the king of his people.
• The act of riding into Jerusalem on a donkey near the
36. One Of The Most Significant Events
• time of the Passover celebration invoked a central image of
Messianic expectation, linked to key Biblical texts... Two of the
four Evangelists explained the significance of Jesus entrance
explicitly as the fulfillment of Scripture.... In Jewish literature
and teaching, moreover, the image of a king on a donkey
approaching Jerusalem was consistently understood to signify
the arrival of the Messianic King. Thus, Jesus was claiming to be
the Messiah and proclaiming that the age of restoration was
dawning through his own person.
• In light of the frequent Old Testament association of horses
with war and human pride, the donkey may have presented an
image of peaceful humility. Jesus, in this interpretation, was
making a statement regarding the nature of his kingship.…"

47. Zechariah 9:8-16, Split Fulfillment
• This very day I am declaring that I will restore double to you. 13
For I will bend Judah as My bow, I will fill the bow with
Ephraim. And I will stir up your sons, O Zion, against your sons,
O Greece; And I will make you like a warrior's sword.
• 14 Then the LORD will appear over them, And His arrow will go
forth like lightning [Luke 17:24]; And the Lord GOD will blow the
trumpet, And will march in the storm winds of the south. 15 The
LORD of hosts will defend them. And they will devour and
trample on the sling stones; And they will drink and be
boisterous as with wine; And they will be filled like a sacrificial
basin, Drenched like the corners of the altar.
• 16 And the LORD their God will save them in that day As the
flock of His people; For they are as the stones of a crown,
Sparkling in His land.
48. Zechariah 9:9-10, Literal Fulfillment
• If Jesus literally fulfilled, historically, Zech 9:9;
• Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in
triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is
coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation,
Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the
foal of a donkey.
• Then Jesus will literally fulfill Zech 9:10, yet future;
• Zechariah 9:10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim And
the horse from Jerusalem; And the bow of war will be cut
off. And He will speak peace to the nations; And His
dominion will be from sea to sea, And from the River to
the ends of the earth.

Archaeological Study Bible on 21:8 says,
“Spreading their cloaks on the roads was an act

"leaves" or "leafy branches," which were
readily available in nearby fields. Only John
mentioned palm branches (see Jn 12:13), which
may have come from Jericho, since they are

• Roberta Potts Interview: Timing of the Rapture
• Posted: 09 Oct 2012 06:59 AM PDT
• By Dr. David R. Reagan
• When will the Rapture occur?
• Dr. Reagan: This is the fifth and last part of a series where I interview Roberta Roberts Potts concerning various topics related to Bible prophecy.
• Dr. Reagan: Let me ask you another question. This is a hotly debated one concerning the timing of the Rapture. There are a lot of people who believe in a Rapture, many don't, but many do. They
will debate the timing of the Rapture, whether it is going to happen near the end of the Tribulation, or before it begins, or even in the middle? Do you have any opinion about the timing of the
Rapture? We both know the Bible doesn't clearly say when the Rapture is going to occur. You have to pretty much figure it out, deducing when from what the Bible says. So, what is your opinion?
• Roberta Potts: I believe we are going to escape God's coming wrath. One reason I believe that is because Jesus picked two particular Bible personalities when He said the end times are going to be
like the days of... Noah and Lot. Both these guys lived centuries apart. The only thing I know they really had in common was that they both faced a coming cataclysm and they both escaped.
• Certainly it would have been different if Jesus had said it is going to be just like the days of Jeremiah. After all, Jeremiah predicted a terrible, terrible upheaval which he didn't escape. He had to
live through it.
• Or, Jesus could have said the last days were going to be like the days of Daniel. Well, Daniel was taken captive during that same upheaval and he didn't escape.
• Jesus didn't say those days were going to be like the days of Jeremiah, nor the days of Daniel. No, He said they'd be like the days of Noah and Lot, both of who were removed from the coming
destruction.
• The proof that's kind of the capstone for me is when Jesus tells us to always be on the watch and pray that we might be counted worthy to escape. So, I'm going to do just that and be watching
and praying, because I want to escape.
• Dr. Reagan: You've taken that right out of Luke 21:36. There Jesus says we are to pray that we are to escape the coming Tribulation. I have people attacking me all the time accusing, "You're just
an escapist." I plead guilty. Jesus tells us there in Luke 21 to be an escapist. I pray to escape as others through time have prayed.
• People will also say, "You just don't want to suffer for the Lord." I reply, "When you take a stand for the Lord Jesus Christ, you are going to suffer for the Lord." The Bible says there is going to be
tribulation for believers. But, I'm talking about escaping the Great Tribulation. I'm not talking about the tribulation that we're going to experience as a result of harassment and persecution. We're
certainly going to experience that. No, we're talking about escaping the Great Tribulation as described in Luke 21.
• The most important point that I would make concerning the timing of the Rapture is imminence. The Bible says that the Lord can return at any moment. We're to watch for His return at any
moment. When you stop and think about what we call the Second Coming, certainly that can't happen at any moment because there are too many prophecies that have to be fulfilled before the
Second Coming occurs. But, there's not one that has to be fulfilled before the Rapture occurs. I'm never told to watch for the Antichrist. I'm told to watch for Jesus Christ.
• Roberta Potts: Absolutely!
54. "What is Palm Sunday?”
GotQuestions.org
• Question: "What is Palm Sunday?” http://www.gotquestions.org/Printer/qotw-PF.html
•
• Answer: Palm Sunday is the day we celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, exactly one week before His
resurrection (Matthew 21:1–11). As Jesus entered the holy city, He neared the culmination of a long journey toward
Golgotha. He had come to save the lost (Luke 19:10), and now was the time—this was the place—to secure that
salvation. Palm Sunday marked the start of what is often called “Passion Week,” the final seven days of Jesus’ earthly
ministry. Palm Sunday was the “beginning of the end” of Jesus’ work on earth.
• Palm Sunday began with Jesus and His disciples traveling over the Mount of Olives. The Lord sent two disciples ahead
into the village of Bethphage to find an animal to ride. They found the unbroken colt of a donkey, just as Jesus had said
they would (Luke 19:29–30). When they untied the colt, the owners began to question them. The disciples responded
with the answer Jesus had provided: “The Lord needs it” (Luke 19:31–34). Amazingly, the owners were satisfied with that
answer and let the disciples go. “They brought [the donkey] to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it”
(Luke 19:35).
• As Jesus ascended toward Jerusalem, a large multitude gathered around Him. This crowd understood that Jesus was the
Messiah; what they did not understand was that it wasn’t time to set up the kingdom yet—although Jesus had tried to
tell them so (Luke 19:11–12). The crowd’s actions along the road give rise to the name “Palm Sunday”: “A very large
crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road”
(Matthew 21:8). In strewing their cloaks on the road, the people were giving Jesus the royal treatment—King Jehu was
given similar honor at his coronation (2 Kings 9:13). John records the detail that the branches they cut were from palm
trees (John 12:13).
• On that first Palm Sunday, the people also honored Jesus verbally: “The crowds that went ahead of him and those that
followed shouted, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’ / ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ / ‘Hosanna in the

• Q. In John 12:1 it says:”Then six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany…”, and then verse
12 says, “The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast…” So, according to John 12:1,
Jesus was in Bethany 6 days before the 14th of the month, that is He was there on the 8th of the
month, and the next day is the 9th of the month, the day when the multitude went out to meet Him
and cried out “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! The King of Israel!”, and
it was not on the 10th of the month.
• A. We know Jesus entered Jerusalem on Psalm Sunday. John 12:1 says Jesus had come to Bethany
six days before Passover, but it doesn’t say He had a big dinner that same night and left the next
morning. Since Palm Sunday was the 10th, the ninth would have been a Saturday, which was the
Sabbath, and the 8th, the day Jesus arrived, was a Friday. From sunset Friday to sunset Saturday no
work was allowed, and that included travel. Therefore, since the dinner was given on the night
before Palm Sunday, it had to have taken place on Saturday after sunset when the Sabbath ended.
