Operative dentistry is the science and
art of dentistry including all
procedures whereby:
Defects in hard tooth substance are eliminated.
Their progress are inhibited
Recurrence is prevented
In other meaning, is
the area of dental practice
concerned with the prevention and treatment of defects( carious or non carious)in
tooth enamel and
dentin with metallic and non metallic
dental materials. These materials are
usually amalgam, composite resins, and
glass ionomer restoration

Scope


Operative dentistry includes firstly,
diagnosis of the original insult of carious
and non carious lesions (erosion, abrasion,
attration and fracture).
Secondly, planning of treatment in logical
steps of procedures and determination of
possible corporation of other branches
(endodontic, orthodontic, surgical) in
scientific mechanical, biological esthetic
background..
