The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

How to Make a Field invisible in Odoo 17Celine George
It is possible to hide or invisible some fields in odoo. Commonly using “invisible” attribute in the field definition to invisible the fields. This slide will show how to make a field invisible in odoo 17.
2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media products?
• My genre is gangster and the conventions or the norms in Gangster movies is
usually involves a lot of violence and the props are usually guns or knifes and in my
opening I used a gun as a prop.
• My opening is also like many other gangster movies where its good versus evil and
one character trying to explain himself.
3. Question one Continued…
• I analysed the opening of RockNRolla, Gangster NO.1 and Lawless which really
helped me with my opening because I didn’t want my opening to be like any of
them. Lawless takes 7 minutes to get to the title and the opening for the first 3
minutes shows the scenery then it gets into action I wanted to get straight into the
action. RockNRolla is mainly animated and there isn’t any actual acting going on.
• In Gangster NO.1 there isn’t many acting as well but you can hear dialogue and
they cut away to a black background to show credits.
• I used universals opening in the my opening sequence this is because they are one
of the movie production companies I analysed that would produce gangster
movies.
4. How does your media product represents particular social
groups?
• My characters was represented as four teenagers who are involved in gangs. It’s a
negative representation but it’s the social norm as how teenagers are represented
in the media as gang members. This is a stereotype created by media and shows
teenagers as thugs that are always up to trouble and I try and represent this in my
opening as the main character is someone who is misunderstood and for that
reason he is in trouble.
5. • I tried to create the next Jason Statham as my character is like him from the
Mechaninc because he is betrayed by the people he works for because they create
a massive lie to be the reality and my character is a misunderstood person trying
to get back at the people which got him to snitch.
• The main character was dressed with a black hoody and jeans which is normal for
a teenager and the black hoody is typical to the way normal gangsters get dressed.
6. What kind of institutions might produce your media product and
why?
• Universal would produce my media product this is because they are a really
diverse group that produces all sorts of movies. Universal distribute all sorts of
movies such as Ride Along a comedy, 47 Ronin an action move and 2 guns which is
a gangster movie. This shows that they would distribute my movie because they
produce all sorts of movies.
• I used universals opening as I lost my logo picture I think it got deleted by accident
this is why I had to use universal.
7. Who would the audience for your media product be?
• My movie would be an age rating 15+ as it has a bit of violence and some strong
language.
The people who answered my survey showed that it was mainly male but about 35%
would still be females.
From my audience research I found out that the actors and the storyline make a movie
attractive.
15
•strong violence
•frequent strong language (eg 'f***').
•portrayals of sexual activity
•strong verbal references to sex
•sexual nudity
•brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
•discriminatory language or behaviour
•drug taking
8. The audience for my media product could be anyone over 15 years old.
9. How did you attract/address your audience?
• The storyline of my media product really appealed to people. This is because as I
found out from my audience research most of the people watch gangster movies
and they said that the storyline and the actors really attracted them to a movie so I
used the storyline to attract them.
• People in my audience research were most enjoyed heist and hood as a sub genre
within gangster movies so I decided to make mine a hood opening which attracted
the audience to the product.
10. • I showed my media product to some people through youtube and nobody
commented on the clip because the people I showed it to were next to me.
• They generally liked the opening they wanted more dialogue between the two
characters and some people didn’t like the close up of the gun as it was badly
executed.
11. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing your product?
• I used Final Cut Pro to edit my media product.
• I filmed Four times to get to my end product the first time I filmed I used a Cannon
and there was reflections on cars showing other actors and the cameraman so I
had to re-film.
• The second time I re-filmed my actors were really bad at understanding any
instructions and so it took me one and a half hours to film one scene which meant
that by the time we got to the other scenes everyone was tired and so it wasn’t
really good.
• The third time we got a camera from the school and I didn’t open it so when I
went home I found out that the camera’s battery was on red which meant that we
had to film on an iPhone 5s so they quality was really bad.
• The fourth time I filmed the camera was missing its SD card so I had to use my own
camcorder which I had luckily charged overnight and then I edited the product on
Final Cut Pro.
12. • Editing wasn’t really hard but to get everything running smoothly took a long time
so editing really takes up a lot of time.
• Before media I wouldn’t have known how long it took to film and edit a two
minute clip so it is understandable that it takes movies a year to release after
filming.
13. • I really enjoyed filming the scenes where it shows both phones and the other
person receives the text because its showing something that is happening at the
same time.
• If I was to re-film my product I would use two cameras as that would make things
more efficient and I could do two shots really easily and there wouldn’t be a
reason of filming the same scene twice.
14. Looking back at your Prelim task, what have you learnt in the
progression from that to the final product?
The hardest part of my prelim task was holding the camera stable because I was using my phone
and getting the 180 degree rule right was hard as well because when I first attempted I got it
wrong.
I was happy with my preliminary task because I got the match on action right but when my
friend dropped I couldn’t position him well and I had to film a reaction shot because of my
mistake which is why I wasn’t totally pleased with my preliminary task.
15. • First of all the quality is better and the camera work is much more stable because I
used a tripod and I used a proper camera.
• The images are clearer and more stable also now the angles are better in my
prelim I have left a lot of space on top of characters heads.
• The titles and the music when they enter and exist the screen is really important
and also if the credits go away really quickly it makes everything looks really
rushed so timing matters a lot.
