Working Title:
Buried Alive Music Video – Avenged Sevenfold
Audience:
My audience is those who would look up music videos of heavy metal songs on the Internet.
These people would, most likely, be on the younger end of things (as far as age goes), with my
broadest predictions being from teens (starting at 13 years old) to young adults (who would be in
their early-twenties). These teens-to-young-adults would be predominantly male, as males are
more known to listen to heavy metal than females, especially when it comes to bands like Avenged
Sevenfold versus artists like Cadaveria. I would do my best to make the video appeal to those of
all social classes, even if heavy metal generally appeals to those who enjoy being ‘rebellious’
against their parents and the establishment.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
The skills and knowledge that I have acquired in filmmaking through the experiments I have done
in preparation for this music video include me becoming more adept in the techniques I practised.
The subjects I have studied this year so far didn’t inform or influence my choice, as I had already
had this music video idea in the back of my mind for a long time.
I have studied making adverts, making audio podcasts and making magazine covers in class, and
through them I have learned the importance of what is put in front of the importance of telling a
story through methods outside of dialogue, such as using the audio and visuals of something to tell
the story. I will use this knowledge I've gained to help make my music video as good as it possibly
could be.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept for my project is that I am going to make a video that goes along with the song
‘Buried Alive' by the band Avenged Sevenfold. The music video would be nearly five and a half
minutes in length, and would consist of three things.
The first of those three things would be the plot of the music video, which would feature two main
characters: one person who has fallen into a coma, and is thought to be dead, and another person,
who decided to pre-emptively bury the person who is in a coma alive. However, the first person
wakes up from their coma and escapes their tomb. He then goes on a rampage looking for the
person who buried him alive, and the two have a fight, which ends in the first person winning, and
deciding to get his revenge on the person who buried him alive by burying him alive.
The second of these three things is me playing the song ‘Buried Alive' on my electric guitar. The
song consists of a lot of picking and sliding at the start of the song, several arpeggios in the verse,
a few chords in the chorus, a solo and more chords at the end of the song, when it picks up into a
more traditionally ‘metal' song.
The third of these three things is me lip-syncing to the song ‘Buried Alive'. As I'm not very good at
lip-syncing, the thing I will most likely do is film myself singing the song ‘Buried Alive' and mute the
audio of the song in post-production.
Some potential research I'd have to conduct would be looking at the music videos that Avenged
Sevenfold have made themselves. This is because I want to make my video as Avenged
Sevenfold-like as possible. It won't be easy, but I think I can pull it off.

Production Techniques (approx. 150 words)
The only specialist thing that I think production of my music video would require is a green-screen,
for me to play guitar and sing in front of. This would require me to learn how to use a green-screen
and not make it abundantly obvious that I'm playing in front of one in post-production. I can do this
by looking up videos on how to use a green-screen in the video-editing software that I personally
use: Vegas Pro 14.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
One way of which I plan to evaluate my work on this music video project is by comparing it to other
music videos made by Avenged Sevenfold and see how they compare.
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation and your final
self-reflection, analysing your work and its outcomes.
