Media Evaluation By Paul Ryall-Gould
Activity 1 This shot conforms with some conventions of a thiller with close up shots and and not alot of background to establish where the location is. Te lack of lighting in this images adds to the mystery of the character which goes with stereotypical thrillers where we may see the villain but only as a shadow. The character was introduced with a shot like this one where we only see part of his face,. This was to keep the characters identity hidden to comply with conventions of a thriller but not with conventions of introducing the villain right at the opening scene of the film.
Activity 2 The character in our introduction was completely concealed in his identity. However we can tell from voice an dwhat we do see he is a young character which breaks the conventions of most thriller films which have an older person as the evil bad guy. (Phone booth as an example here.). It would be hard to compare my character to one from another film as you don’t see the person in the film so their is no face to compare him too.
Activity 3 The production companies own the film and all the rights to the film but also give funding to the producer/director to spend on making the film as without money their is no film. I have found through expierance of watching films that the first title to come on screen are the production companies such as “20th Century” or “New line Cinema” and after that is usualy the producer and directors names and then the star cast are introduced in a typical film. The distributor for out film would probably be a big American giant like 20th Century as they release a wide verity of films and would be able to distribute the film all over the world. However the initial release of our film would be at some sort of festival for films as it is quite a small project.
Activity 4 A typical audience for our film would be mid teen to adult so anything from 15+ in age. I would say general the film would be viewed by a male audience as stereotypical males prefer thrillers to females. The type of person i would say would be from the lower – middle class background so people who don't own big houses or go out spending money in the shops but prefer to go out with friends to watch new films. The genre of films such a person would like i would say typically would be drama, Horror, Thriller or any other morereal then surreal genre so not a scifi fan. For a glimpse of what my audiance would look like refere to my earlier blog post about typical audiance.
Activity 5 The preliminary task has taught me much about the way filming works and the science behind it. By the science I specifically mean the 180 degree rule and how it works which makes complete sense. I feel that I am more confident about how to film with a camera allot more then i was before and am more confident in taking a leading role where camera editing and technique are concerned. I also believe that it has helped me develop my skills on various editing software such as Garage band and imovie which then inspired me to research into products such as After Effects.
