Fungi such as Rhizopus, Aspergillus, and Penicillium cause bread and fruits to decay by infecting them with spores. To observe these mould spores under a microscope, scrapes of fungus-infected bread or a rotten orange are placed in water on a glass slide, smeared, and viewed under the microscope.

AIM:
To understand that the moulds (fungi) cause the decay
of food stuffs such as bread, fruits, etc.
MATERIAL REQUIRED:
Fungus infected Bread or Rotten orange,
Water
Glass slide
Microscope

2. Place scrapes of the mould (fungi) on to a drop of water on a glass
slide and smear with the help of another slide

3. Observe the slide under the microscope
Spores of Rhizopus sp, Aspergillus sp and Penicillium sp may be
observed.
