Who Is Douglas Bader A Hero
Anyone can give up, it s the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone
else would understand if you fell apart, that s true strength. (Douglas Bader Quotes). These words
were spoken by Douglas Bader, a World Word II hero and British pilot. The atrocities and hardships
WWII presented had a lot of people wanting to give up, but Douglas Bader did not believe in giving
up hope. Douglas Bader wasn t just any old pilot trying to encourage others, either. This man was
faced with a very difficult challenge early on in his life, for he lost both of his legs in a flying accident
(Douglas Bader 1). Even though he could have given up right then, he decided to help his country and
the world in their time of need. Bader strived to help Great Britain and the Allies and became a hero
for many. Douglas Bader has left a long lasting legacy that has inspired myself and many others.

A college journal reported on one of his boxing matches saying, Bader in his usual no time to spare
manner went straight at his opponent and knocked him out with two very hard rights. He took about
the same time as he did last year, and is a very dangerous man to meet. (Douglas Bader: Fighter,
Pilot). Aside from sports, Douglas Bader seemed to be a natural at flying. After Cranwell, Bader was
assigned to No. 23 Squadron at Kenley, where he flew the Gloster Gamecook. He performed in the
RAF display at Hendon, in 1931, which showed his strong suit in aerobatics (Douglas Bader: Fighter,
Pilot). A picture shows Bader standing with Flight Lieutenant Harry Day and Flying Officer Geoffrey
Stephenson to his right in front of a plane. They made up the No.23 Squadron s aerobatics team for the

The Office Tv Show
Do you have a boss that can sometimes drive you up a wall? Or how about a co worker that always
seems to have something to say? If so, then The Office is just the right show for you. The Office, first
airing in 2005, is a comedy about employees at Dunder Mifflin, the local paper company in Scranton,
Pennsylvania. This TV show is meant to mock a reality TV show about the daily lives of those who
work in an office selling high quality paper.
Cast of The Office; Rotten Tomatoes; https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_office/pictures/
This nine season show stars Steve Carell, John Krasinski, and Jenna Fischer. Popular characters
include: Michael Scott, Branch Manager; Jim Halpert, paper salesman and prankster; Pam Beasley,
receptionist; and Dwight Schrute, paper salesman and beat farmer. These characters, along with the
many others, experience trauma in the office, love triangles, and the common nuisance of Michael
Scott. The Office is a series that explores the shenanigans that can commonly occur in the office
setting, except with a very exaggerated, comical twist. Starting in season one, watchers are introduced

The first was losing Michael Scott. After he left, I did not find the show as humorous as it was when
he was present. Although Andy Barnard was a great character, his humor did not come even close the
level of Michael s. Having Michael Scott leave the show was a smart move for the expansion of the
show; however, the show lost significant ratings due to this move. The second element that I did not
enjoy was Karen. Truthfully, she was a very annoying, self centered character that was a waste of time
for everyone. Luckily, she did not appear on the show for long a season at the most so it did not harm

Comparing Rembrandt And Eakins s Anatomy Of Dr. Tulp
Introduction: Rembrandt and Eakins The similarities, and differences, between Rembrandt
Harmenszoon van Rijn s Anatomy of Dr. Tulp (1632) and Thomas Eakins The Agnew Clinic (1889)
are both uncanny and unprecedented. Painted in 1630 s Amsterdam during the Dutch Baroque period,
Rembrandt sought to preserve the rare occasion in which a real human body was used as an academic
tool in order to prove anatomy theories. On the contrary, Eakins piece was painted in 19th century
America during the realist movement to memorialize a retiring professor. However, it is their
similarities that make them comparable; they were both commissioned by academic institutions, they
both depict a surgery in progress, they both celebrate the careers of notable ... Show more content on

The subject of the yearly autopsy was always a criminal who had just been executed for their crimes,
and autopsies had to be performed immediately due to the time sensitive process of the decaying
corpse. Rather morbid in his interpretation of the event, Rembrandt sought to reproduce the curiosity
and surprise he witnessed through the use of an asymmetrical pyramid so that no face is hidden. This
sort of asymmetry is characteristic of the Baroque period.
There is no truer adaptation of a Baroque painting than this. During this time there were great
revelations of science which catapulted further interest in the sciences. The Anatomy Lesson of Dr.
Tulp portrays a scientific discovery. As Dr. Beth Harris points out and as seen in Fig. 3, Dr. Tulp s left
hand is moving in a way that would show how the tendons of the dissected hand would work
(Smarthistory, 2015). Additionally, Baroque period artists often sought realism in portraits, with an
attention to physical details, and a focus on the dramatic including the contrast between light and
shadow and the use of rich, deep colors (MindEdge 2.01). A real test of its time, this portrait is almost
photo like in its adaption of realism and the physical detail exemplified through the facial expressions
of the onlookers. Furthermore, Rembrandt sought to emphasize the action depicted in this portrait
through by almost illuminating the corpse

Nutcracker Music Analysis
The Nutcracker had a wide variety of instruments it consists of 2 or more harps, double basses, cellos,
violas, violins, a rattle, 2 trumpets, cymbals, 3 flutes, 2 piccolos, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, a bass clarinet, 4
horns, 2 bassoons, 3 trombones, a tuba, a tam tam, a military drum and a glockenspiel. Two large
elements that are unique to this piece are the style of the music and the dynamics. The style of the

An Analysis of Personality Theory
An Analysis of Personality Theory by for Everyone has a personality, of course, but until fairly
recently, there were no personality theories available to help understand what factors contribute to its
development. In recent years, though, personality theories such as McCrae and Costa s Big Five and
Schwartz s theory of basic values have been advanced for these purposes. To gain some deeper
insights into these issues, this paper presents a review of the relevant peer reviewed and scholarly
literature to provide a definition of personality and an examination of theoretical approaches to
studying personality. Finally, an analysis of those factors that may influence an individual s
personality development is followed by a summary of the research and important findings concerning
personality theory in the conclusion. Review and Analysis Definition of Personality An individual s
personality is comprised of several factors, some of which may be more prominent at some times than
others. The dictionary entry personality defines it as, the complex of characteristics that distinguishes
an individual or a nation or group; especially the totality of an individual s behavioral and emotional
characteristics (Merriam Webster, 2001, p. 1687). In this regard, Barrick and Mount (1999) advise
that, Personality may to advantage be broadly analyzed into five distinguishable but separate factors,
namely intellect, character, temperament, disposition and temper (p. 2). Examination of

on their level of engagement with civilians. If the RCD and M23 act as quasi state(s) in somewhere
like the eastern Congo, we must again look at the relationship between state and society before the
conflict began. Young (2004) notes that the Congolese state during the colonial period had a strategy

Keller (1997) discusses how internal civil wars rely on military support and arms from across borders.
Analysts have long highlighted the relevance of transboundary formations that link global regional,
national, and local forces through structures, networks, and discourses that have wide ranging impact,
both benign and malign (Callaghy, Kassimir Latham 2001: 5). Non state actors are able to consolidate
their power through their interactions with the international and regional community (Bayart 1993).
Mampilly (2011) argues that it is crucial to consider the impact of transnational actors on the behavior
of rebel groups as it relates to civilian governance. These relations can bolster non state actors,
including armed groups (Guyer 1994; Ferguson Gupta 2002). Zahar even argues that because
insurgents view themselves as independent political entities, they work to legitimize themselves by
interacting with transnational actors (2001: 60). Mampilly comments that transnational actors support
rebel groups by providing them with resources that influence their ability and will to deal with civilian
governance (2011: 89). Rebel groups incorporate these transnational actors into their governance
systems in order to supplant or supplement their dependence on civilian support, and therefore, their
own capacity to provide civilians with goods. And so in general, it is feasible to assume that help
drawn from other states will have a damaging effect on civilian governance

The Murder Of Scottsboro Boys
In the United States in 1931, during America s Great Depression, nine African American boys faced
what is now known as one of America s most tragic trails in history. These young boys were accused
of raping two white girls while riding a train through Alabama. This accusation brought forth a mob of
white people in the town of Scottsboro. The boys spent years on trial for this. The first trial was
thought to have been the final convention, little did they know it was only the beginning. A second
trial was held for the nine boys that shook the entire nation. After the second trial a third one was held
after the judge suspected that the evidence was not properly examined. The nine young boys, known
as The Scottsboro Boys , spent their lives in and out of a courtroom and in a cell for a crime that today
is known to have never taken place. On March 31, 1931 nine boys by the names of; Charles Weems,
Clarence Norris, Ozie Powell, Olen Montgomery, Eugene Williams, Willie Roberson, Haywood
Patterson, Andy Wright and youngest of them all, Roy Wright rode a train heading toward Alabama,
they got into a fight with a group of white men that allegedly lead them to push the white men off of
the train (An American Tragedy). The train stopped at a small town where an angry mob was waiting
to find a group of troubled black men. As they got off the train, two young white women by the names
of; Ruby Bates and Victoria Price claimed, these boys raped us (An American Tragedy). The public

The High Dynamic Range Compression Operator
4 METHODOLOGY HDR image given as an input with radiance map I^h, f (.) is the high dynamic
range compression operator computes the radiance map in a low dynamic range I^l = f (I^h). An
important goal of this method is to decrease the large radiance values and increase small ones. To
correctly keep the local structures, however, the monotonic mapping of radiance should be satisfied
regarding each pixel s neighborhood in a small local region, similar to the global tone mapping curves
monotone characteristic. Firstly, generate guidance map c according to eq (4) which indicates the area
of the input HDR image that should be enhanced or compressed, then divide input HDR image into
windows or blocks. Secondly, compare guidance map values in each window with threshold value.
Thirdly, determine if linear or nonlinear tone mapping method applied for selected window in image.
Then, if we describe the window w_i with pixel i in the center, the linear function is: I^l (j)=p_i I^h
(j)+q_i , j ∈w_i (1) A simple yet complete representation has been provided that satisfy the local
monotonic constraint. Control the mapping in different ways through the coefficients p_i and q_i
within the local window. The value of p represents the slope of the linear function while q determines
the base radiance level. The terms q and p directly control the local contrast as shown in Fig. 1. If p 1,
as shown in Fig. 1a, the local contrast is enhanced,

Online And On Campus Learning
We are all looking for things in our lives to be convenient. Technology today has made that more
possible than ever. We have almost everything we need right at our fingertips. I personally use online
banking so I rarely have to step foot into a bank. I love online shopping, I can order anything that I
want and have it delivered to my front door. I can even have my groceries shipped to me if I wanted
to. So it s no surprise that online learning has become so popular today. I utilize both, online and on
campus learning, as well as a combination of both. I have found that the convenience of having at
least part of my classes online, where I can access them anytime I want, from anywhere, without
mandating what time and how long I spend learning the material, fits perfectly into my busy schedule.
But is it as good as the face to face learning that one receives in a classroom setting with other
students engaging in conversations about a topic? Online learning allows for more flexibility for
students to attend classes at their convenience and accommodates those who find it hard to attend a
class on a campus. Online education is quickly becoming a popular option, though it takes a particular
type of well disciplined student to be successful in an online environment. Because online courses
have most, if not all, of their content delivered over the internet, the student, peer, and teacher
interactions are done primarily over some form of written correspondence. Your

The Success Of World War I
In the year 1914, the Europeans were on edge because one country had found itself at war with
another and all powers would end up into a struggle. On one side, there were the Germans, standing in
the center of Europe with their efficient armies of their neighboring countries, France and Russia. The
Germans had treaty links to the nation of Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Turks. The two main sides
were the Allies, which included France, Great Britain, and Russia; and Germany and Austria Hungary.
Italy had been part of the Triple Alliance with Germany and Austria Hungary, but this disappeared by
1914. On the other side were the French, the Russians, and if the Germans attacked France, the
British. The French were worried about another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the domestic political scene, the Democrats expected serious losses in the congressional elections,
while the Republicans has won back some of the Progressive voters who had followed Roosevelt in
1912.
The Republicans split between Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft to help Woodrow
Wilson win the election in 1912. Woodrow Wilson wanted a new domestic program called the New
Freedom which was enacted in 1913 1914. There were a few differences from the Wilson s fourteen
points and Roosevelt s progressivism which brought up many questions about what Wilson was trying
to do. The most important of Wilson s fourteen points the creation of the League of Nations was
adopted. Wilson was unable to get the Treaty of Versailles by the United States senate and ironically,
America never joined the League of Nations. The differences that surfaced up were whether society
should pursue social justice by doing more for the less fortunate. Years before World War I, optimism
about the future spread through the United States. The issues that had been identified in the domestic
affairs between 1901 and 1914 endured during World War I. By the end of World War I, over 9 million
soldiers had been killed and 21 million were wounded. World War I lasted till November 11th, 1918.
On February 4th, 1915, Germany declared the establishment of the war zone in the seas that

Essay on Themes in Nectar in a Sieve
In the novel, Nectar in a Sieve, the author, Kamala Markandaya creates various themes. One theme
from the book is that tensions can be caused by modernization and industrial progress. This theme is
highly prevalent throughout the story and broadens the reader s outlook on modernization.
Markandaya writes of a primitive village that is going through a severe change. Her ability to form a
plethora of characters with different opinions, yet to share one main culture, helps highlight the
tensions in the village. The story takes place in the country of India, which in the book was still
primordial. At this point in time, the majority of citizens are believers in Hinduism. One common
belief is that the cow is sacred and holy. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With all of the ethical cultural issues, tensions are seen in Nectar in a Sieve. When the tannery is first
built, Rukmani, also known as Ruku, describes the moment by stating, There was a silence. In the
unwonted quiet we all wondered apprehensively what would happen next (Markandaya 27). The
intrusion of the tannery builders opens the citizens innocent and restricted eyes to the outside modern
world. Once they figure out what occurs in a tannery Ruku is disgusted and yet Nathan tells her, There
is no going back. Bend like the grass, that you do not break (28). In essence he is telling her simply to
be flexible and not to pay the tannery any mind. Nathan finds this effortless to say at the moment;
however, later on in the story when two of his sons inform him that instead of farming with him that
they are going to work at the tannery, he does not take too well to this idea. Working for the tannery is
a direct contradiction to their beliefs and Ruku is extremely opposed. With this being said, the family
is in desperate need for money and food. With Arjun and Thambi working for the tannery, they make
sufficient enough money to give some to their parents to supply for the family. Ruku responds by
admitting, Yet they were good sons, considerate for us, patient with others, always giving us a fair
share of their earnings (52). Hereto, Rukmani is playing an emotional tug of war due to her religious

General-Purpose State Governments
American local governments sprouted in response to a combination of citizen demand, interest group
pressure, and state government acquiescence. As a consequence, no scientific system of local
government exists. General purpose local governments perform a wide variety of governmental
functions, and counties, municipalities, and towns and townships all fall into this category. Special
purpose local governments generally focus on a specific purpose and one function. Best known of
these are the school districts. Regardless of name, it is state government that gives local governments
of all types their legal life.

Public Safety Outweigh Petitioner s First Amendment Right
C. The interest of public safety outweighs Petitioner s First Amendment right to record.
Petitioner s recording posed an unreasonable risk to bystanders, passing motorist, and the police,
essentially creating an inherently dangerous situation. Kelly v. Borough of Carlisle, 622 F.3d 248, 262
(3d Cir. 2010). The Third Circuit has firmly recognized that traffic stops are especially fraught with
danger to police officers. Id. A traffic stop always poses danger because of its unpredictable nature,
but even more so, when a potential suspect is on the loose. Petitioner was a suspect for a crime of
several residential break ins, which a reasonable office would assume is armed and dangerous; thus
creating a heightened risk to the officers safety. Furthermore, the Petitioner was stopped on the side of
a road congested with traffic. If the officers do not maintain control of the situation, any unpredictable
movement could result in grave injury; therefore, the police officers acted reasonably by minimizing
the unnecessary danger added by Petitioner s recording during an already dangerous situation.
D. Petitioner s recording is not a matter of public interest that carried any expressive or
communicative purpose.
The encounter Petitioner recorded is not a matter of public interest. Although there is a broad First
Amendment right to film matters of public interest, the extend of that right to film public officials
have not been explicitly defined by the Supreme Court or any other

Should Teenagers Use The Internet Essay
Why there should not be a time limit on the use of the internet
Anti social, drop in grades, eye damage these are some of the topics that are brought up in
conversation when talking about the use of the internet and how long teenagers are using it. But do
they mention the pros of using the internet? In my opinion, I think teenagers should the internet more
often. Teenagers use the internet for help in school, they gain computer skills and learn what is
happening out in the world through the use of social media.
A key aspect of how the internet use of the internet should not be limited is the knowledge. The
internet is growing and becoming more advanced every day that we as humans cannot keep up. By
teens using the internet, we would gain knowledge about the internet, for example, finding out what
source is credible and also, becoming more aware of websites that could possibly be harmful to our
computers. All these factors could be helpful in the future. For example, in an online article 10 great
things teen learn playing online by Christy Matte, it states that Viruses, limited computer space
browser crashes are all realities of time spent online. Learning to prevent and/or cope with this issue is
fundamental in becoming a savvy computer user. As kids explore on the computer, they are picking up
valuable information about this practice. ( source 2). Teens could learn a lot from just simply using the

The Prayer On Public Schools
For much of the 20th Century and into the 21st, school prayer has been the focal point of an ongoing
debate about the position of religion in American civilization. The question of the legality of prayer in
public schools brings together a number of important notions in American government and legal
philosophy. Opponents and proponents of school prayer set forth their arguments in such major
constitutional issues as the separation of church and state, the right to free exercise of religion, and the
respective powers of local, state, and national governments. Since hearing its first case on the issue in
1962, the United States Supreme Court has passed down at least one verdict dealing with school
prayer in each consecutive decade. In result, this makes school prayer a durable and highly
momentous topic in the fields of education and law. In the United States, there is a constant between
people being able to pray in public or not. For the supporters of public prayer, the constitution
supports their freedom of religion to be able to uplift prayers whenever they wish. For the ones who
oppose public prayer, the constitution states the separation of church and state. The United States has
had a moral decline since prayers were taken out of our schools. Until the early 20th Century, prayer
was an accepted feature of public education. During the 18th and 19th centuries, America continued a
de facto Christian homeland, and public school curriculum imitated this fact. The modern,

German society would only crumble even further, so the westerners rejected the offer. The idea of the
an airlift came to mind of the western allies, as they wanted aid Berlin citizens and abolish the Soviet
authority. This idea was inspired by the World War II American airlift from India, over the Himalayas,
to China The Hump , to resupply the Chinese war effort. Planning and investigating were soon done
by the three nations in an attempt to figure out and carry out a large scale solution.
On November 30th, 1945, it was announced that there would be 23 mile wide air corridors providing
passage to Berlin. Since the use of unarmed aircraft would be the transport method, the Soviets could
not accuse that the cargo aircraft were a military threat, like if they were tanks or trucks. Being faced
with non lethal aircraft refusing to turn around, the only way to keep the blockade impassable would
be to shoot them down. The Soviets were forcibly put in a position of either shooting down unarmed
humanitarian aircraft, which in turn would break their own agreements, or back down

The Consumer Protection Act ( 1986 )
INTRODUCTION TO THE CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT(1986)
The modern era is considered to be the era of consumers. No country can ever disregard the interest of
the consumers. This is best argued through the process of rapid enactment of consumer protection
laws throughout the world. In addition to consumer protection acts throughout the world, one can
easily find the rapidly rising rate of lawmaking for consumers in the developing countries like Sri
Lanka, Thailand, Philippines,Mongolia, Mauritius , China, Indonesia,Taiwan, Nepal, Malaysia and
other such countries. India is not an exception to this rule. The Consumer Protection Act, 1986 is an
example of a milestone in the history of socio economic legislation to protect and preserve the ...

Boys with eating disorders have stated that their father has often pressured them into excelling in
sports and there are often very high expectations in this arena. (Romero, 1994) As a result of this
obligation to succeed the boy may have low self esteem and feelings of inadequacy. He needs to
control his life in some way, and he sees an opportunity in controlling his bodies. By taking their
previously obsessive behavior in academics and sports and expanding that obsession into eating as
well. Although males tend to over exercise instead of using other means of purging they do participate
in dieting as well. There are three major differences between males and females when it comes to
dieting. The first is the reason for dieting, woman tend to diet because they feel fat whereas men start
to diet because they had previously been overweight. The second difference is that more often than
women, men diet to maintain certain goals in relation to an athletic activity, for example to avoid
injury rather than to loose weight. And the last difference is that more men diet to avoid potential
medical problems. (Crosscope Happel, Hutchins, Hayes, 2000) It is through dieting that men can feel

ASD Intervention Essay
Another method that is commonly used as an intervention for students with ASD is the Early Start
Denver Model (ESDM). ESDM is an inclusive behavioral intervention for infants to preschool aged
children (Dawson et al., 2009; Vivanti et al., 2014). The learning objectives are based on individual
strengths and weaknesses, with a focus on developmental fields that are foundational to social and
social cognitive learning and development (Vivanti et al., 2014). The students with ASD work to
enhance their verbal and nonverbal communication, emotion sharing, imitation, joint attention, play,
social orienting, and attention (Rogers et al., 2012).
The ESDM program outlines the skills taught at certain times and the teaching interventions used to
deliver the material. This early intervention is often performed in the child s natural environment such
as the home with trained professionals and parents, but is also performed in group settings (Dawson et
al., 2009; Vismara Rogers, 2008; Vivanti et al., 2014). ESDM is often performed in a 1:1 setting, but it
has also been performed in larger group settings with a 1:3 ratio (Dawson et al., 2009; Vismara
Rogers, 2008; Vivanti et al., 2014). This intervention incorporates ABA with developmental and
relationship based approaches (Dawson et al., 2009).

is removed while the social story remains, the disruptive behaviors continue to diminish (Agosta et al.,

Diuretics Lab Report
Diuretics are substances that slow renal reabsorption of water and thereby cause diuresis, an elevated
urine flow, which in turn reduces blood volume. Lowering blood volume usually reduces blood
pressure activating baroreceptors to reflexively increase heart rate and thus increase blood pressure.
Naturally occurring diuretics include caffeine which is found in coffee and soda. The following lab
was designed to illustrate the effect of caffeine on urine volume, urine osmolality, and heart rate at 30
minutes, 60 minutes, and 90 minutes post consumption of nothing, soda, and coffee in humans, Homo

While Celiac s Disease is undoubtedly a real condition, the gluten free diet is a current fad.
Particularly in large, urban areas, the gluten free has sparked an outpouring of social media posts. By
picking up on the popularity of the gluten free diet, Denny s implies that even if someone is on the
diet, he or she can still eat there. As a cheap, quick diner, the average consumer would not assume that
Denny s has many gluten free options. However, by portraying this information through a humorous
response, Denny s proves that it is a restaurant where trendy, health conscious people can eat. But
beyond that, by responding to such an obscure question from a blogger and using a question about a

Denny s demonstrates how ridiculous it is that gf refers to gluten free instead of girlfriend. Ultimately,

The Discovery Of A Fossil Specimen
After so many years of searching and excavating, my partners and I have discovered our first hominin
fossil. After all the digging, cleaning, and cataloging of hominin discoveries is complete, we begin to
start analyzing mysterious specimen #6. It looked a lot like a modern human but the skull features is
slightly different and the molars is quite large. From what we have noticed at first sight, the incisors,
canines and the premolars of the specimen are missing. Without analyzing and measuring the teeth s,
it would make our job a bit difficult, but there is always alternative route to analyze this mysterious
specimen.
My partners and I shared each other hypotheses about mysterious specimen #6 that were trying to
figure it out. We observed every little feature that the specimen have and we re not were not sure what
hominin it is, we first guessed that this specimen is just another known fossil species in the human
lineage or it could be a new fossil species in the human lineage. Our main hypothesis that were trying
to find the answer is mysterious specimen #6 is a previous human species before modern humans
today, and How long does mysterious specimen #6 live? There are so many questions about
mysterious specimen #6 and were we going to get to the bottom of this by analyzing the skull features,
measuring the specimen with special tools and compare and contrast to all hominin from the past to
see anything similar and related to mysterious specimen #6.

Comparing Harvey s Dream And A Sorrowful Woman
There are multiple aspects of similarities and differences regarding marriage and how it is handled in
both Stephen King s Harvey s Dream, and Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman. While these short
stories are both about marriage and the struggles within them, they also greatly contrast each other.
For example, Harvey s Dream exemplifies how marriage can begin to become boring and undesirable
at a certain point in time. Janet finds that everything Harvey says, acts, or does, seems to pester her.
There is evidence that the dream experienced by Harvey is the most interesting topic brought up in
their marriage within years. For instance, Janet states, Suddenly she doesn t want life to be anything
but thin. Thin is O.K., thin is good, just look at the actresses in the movies if you doubt it (King, 4).

In A Sorrowful Woman, the wife experiences a death of her child, for Godwin states, Once upon a
time there was a wife and mother one too many times (Godwin, 39). If the dream Harvey encountered
actually occurred, Janet would lose a child, just like the wife in A Sorrowful Woman. The way one
copes with a loss so extreme can be observed through many different aspects. Some may be able to
confront this challenge easier than others, but in the case of A Sorrowful Woman, she simply cannot
let go of the past and move on, and eventually this caused her to commit suicide. With this being said,
one could make the argument that A Sorrowful Woman could similarly be a sequel to Harvey s Dream,
discussing how if Janet was to lose a child and explaining the way she may react. In the end, Harvey s
Dream may have no impactful meaning at all, for it was just a dream, but there also is the possibility
that it is factual, and in turn causes him to lose a child, just like A Sorrowful

GRADED POTENTIAL
ACTION POTENTIAL
Action potential is a fleeting reversal of the membrane potential, caused by changes in permeability of
the plasma membrane of neuron to potassium and sodium ions causing an electrical impulse to be
transmitted along the axon.
When a stimulus depolarizes the membrane, a few of the voltage gated sodium channels that are found
in the neuronal plasma membrane open permitting sodium ions to pass through. Since there is much

This is called temporary hyperpolarisation. The potassium channels then close, and the sodium
potassium pump begin to act again, restoring the normal/original distribution of sodium and potassium
ions across the membrane, and therefore restoring the resting potential. This process takes time. THE
REFRACTORY PERIOD Refractory period is the period of time during which a neuron is recovering
from an action potential, and during which another action potential cannot be generated. At this
period, the voltage gated sodium channels are still firmly closed (or temporary inactivated) and the
membrane cannot produce an action potential, regardless of the stimulation.
CONDUCTION/PROPAGATION/TRANSMISSION OF ACTION POTENTIAL An action potential
at any point along an axon s plasma membrane triggers the production of an action potential in the
membrane on either side of it. During the action potential, sodium ions enter a point on the axon. The
temporary depolarization of the membrane where the action potential is causes a local circuit to be set
between the depolarized region and the resting regions on either side of it. Sodium ions flow sideways
inside the axon, away from the positively charged region towards the negatively charged regions on
either side. This depolarizes these adjoining regions and so generates During the action potential,
sodium ions enter

Introduction
I have chosen to investigate a factor that affects the output of a potential divider circuit. A potential
divider is resistors connected in series across a voltage source; used to obtain a desired fraction of the
voltage. A resistor is a device having resistance to the passage of an electric current which affects the
output voltage (Vout). The factors that I could investigate are changing the resistance of r2 and record
the output (Vout), or use a light dependent resistor (LDR) and change the resistance of r2 and record
the output (Vout).
Theories
Resistors restrict or limit the flow of current in a circuit. The ability of a material or component to
resist current flow is measured in ohms. There are three main types of ... Show more content on

Its value decreases with increasing incident light intensity. An LDR is made of a high resistance semi
conductor. If light falling on the device is of high enough frequency, photons absorbed by the
semiconductor give bound electrons enough energy to jump into the conduction band. The resulting
free electron (and its hole partner) conduct electricity, thereby lowering resistance.
A photoelectric device can be either intrinsic or extrinsic. In intrinsic devices, the only available
electrons are in the valence band, and hence the photon must have enough energy to excite the
electron across the entire bandgap. Extrinsic devices have impurities added, which have a ground state
energy closer to the conduction band since the electrons don t have as far to jump, lower energy
photons (i.e. longer wavelengths and lower frequencies) are sufficient to trigger the device.
Two of its earliest applications were as part of smoke and fire detection systems and camera light
meters. Because cadmium sulphide cells are relatively inexpensive and widely available, LDRs are
used in electronic devices that need light detection capability, such as security alarms, street lamps,
and clock radios.

To A Mouse Analysis
The best laid schemes o mice an men, gang aft agley. Robert Burns states this in his famous poem To a
Mouse, this is believed to have influenced the title of the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.
The reason this line from the poem influences the novel does not seem apparent at first, but by the end
of the novel it becomes clear. This novel focuses on two friends, Lennie and George who are migrant
workers in the 1930 s during the great depression. They move from ranch to ranch with each other,
which sets them apart from most because they have each other, while the majority of migrant workers
travel alone. George is a small man who is smart and responsible, and takes care of Lennie. Lennie is a
very large, strong, man, but he is very simple minded, as he is a little mentally challenged. Although
Lennie seems intimidating, he is a very nice man and has the mentality of a child. The novel focuses
on the dream that George and Lennie have of getting their own farm. This is a very important
component of the novel, because presumably, it is the idea of George and Lennie s dream that inspired
the novel s title. Steinbeck conveys the message of Robert Burns poem by showing how easily a
dream or plan can be shattered.
George and Lennie talk about their dream of owning a farm near the beginning of the novel, so we can
assume that they have had this dream for quite some time, especially from the detail George includes
when telling Lennie about it. They want to have their

In contrast to Bismarck, Kaiser believed that in order to keep Germany in power and prevent them
from defeat he had to build and strengthen a navy as strong as, if not stronger than England s. In all,
Kaiser s end goal was to make Germany the strongest country in power out of Europe, whereas
Bismarck was content with having good relations with different European countries but also
maintaining his own power throughout the land that he owned.
Bismarck s decisions and policy effected the first World War when he used a series of conflicts to
bring Germany together but also create several enemies. One of these enemies being France played a
big part in World War I later because Germany took the former French territory of Alsace Lorraine.
This conflict that took place during the time of Bismarck s reign gave France a motive to fight against

Literary Elements In Love Medicine By Louise Erdrich
Literary elements appear in all exceptional literature, they are what helps build a strong story. There
are many literary elements visible in Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich. In the novel there are
elements such as foreshadowing, tone, several examples of symbolism, and several major themes. In
Love Medicine foreshadowing is demonstrated several times throughout the novel. In the second
scene Albertine Johnson describes her family by saying, Patient Abuse. There was two ways you could
think of that title. One was obvious to a nursing student, and the other was obvious to a Kashpaw (7).
This tells the reader several details about Albertine and her family. First of all, it informs the reader of

One recurring symbol is June Kashpaw as Jesus Christ. The first time the author symbolizes her as
Jesus occurs as she is walking home right before she dies, The snow fell deeper that Easter than it had
in forty years, but June walked over it like water and came home (7). She is similar to Jesus because
both of them walk on water. Another time she is symbolized as Jesus is during the chapters, Crown of
Thorns and Resurrection. Even the chapter titles represent Jesus because he wore a crown of thorns
and was resurrected from the dead. In Resurrection Gordie Kashpaw, June s husband, imagines June is
resurrected like Jesus, and he hits her while driving. Although in reality, Gordie hits a deer, but
because he has guilt for treating June badly during their time together, he imagines he hits June.
Another literary element in Love Medicine is theme. Two themes from this novel are family and
assimilation. The family relationships of the Kashpaws are so important and confusing in this novel. It
is demonstrated by the family tree diagram in the beginning of the novel. The author would not have
put the diagram there, if family is not an important. Another theme is assimilation of the Native
Americans to the American culture. The family partially assimilates from its Chippewa roots to those
of Western Christians. As a child Marie desires to have a life with the nuns, so she rejects her tribal
heritage and assimilates. However towards the end

Electrocoagulation In Greywater
Even through filtration shows its effectiveness, biological and chemical treatments still a significant
process as greywater is required further treatment to remove organics, nutrients and surfactants in
greywater (Li et al., 2009). In terms of chemical treatments for greywater, there is limited studies have
been done so far, only a few technologies such as electrocoagulation (Li et al., 2009). According to
Vakil et al. (2014), Electrocoagulation (EC) known as an electrochemical technique, when water flows
through the electrocoagulation cell, caused multiple chemical reactions happen simultaneously, as
shown in Figure 4. First of all, a metal ion is delivered into water, after that water is hydrolyzed into
hydrogen gas and hydroxyl groups on

The Electronic Medical Record ( Emr )
Meaningful Use and its Development The electronic medical record (EMR) is the replacement of
paper manual charts and is being used all across the country. As per Hebda and Czar (2013), the EMR
is the building block of the electronic health record (EHR), which can be defined as a longitudinal
record that includes client data, demographics, clinician notes, medications, diagnostic findings, and
other essential healthcare information (p.293). The widespread use of EHR s in America is foreseeable
and inevitably unavoidable, but by no means a simple and undoubtedly an effortless task to achieve.
In an attempt to reduce costs in the introduction, conversion, and implementation of patient health
records the government has provided regulations for meaningful use (MU) (p.280). In the attempt to
improve the safety and quality of the nation s healthcare system, the government enacted the Health
Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. The HITECH Act is part of
the American Reinvestment Recovery Act (ARRA), enacted on February 17, 2009, which includes
many measures intended to modernize the nation s infrastructure (cdc.gov.). The HITECH Act,
encourages the use of EHR s meaningful use in order to reduce the redundancy of data entry with
integration and interoperability. Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS ) and the Office of the
National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) consider meaningful use of interoperable electronic health
records

Benefits Of A Company s Limited Liability Corporation (...
PASS.com will a member run Limited Liability Corporation (LLC). By using this business structure
our founding members are able to blend the advantages of a partnership with the advantages of a
corporation. This form of business offers our founding members many of the benefits of a sole
proprietorship/partnership while reducing the exposure to unlimited liability.
Moreover, LLC s offer many of the advantages of both the closely held forms of business (Sole
Proprietorship, Partnerships, and limited partnerships) and those of the corporate forms of business.
Most notable; reduced personal liability, relative simplicity to form and reduced regulatory operation
burden to the owners. Following are the key reasons that our founding members have chosen to
incorporate as an LLC:
 Liability: The name of this form of business accurately describes one of its greatest advantages:
limited liability. LLC s share the same limits of liability afforded to corporations. Our owners are
limited in personal liability since the company and the owners are separate legal entities: just as in a
corporation. However, each of our founding members is willing and able to assume personal liability
for financial funding. Waiving the veil of financial liability protection is allowed under state LLC rules
(Small Business Chron.com, 2015)

  • 2. Who Is Douglas Bader A Hero Anyone can give up, it s the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that s true strength. (Douglas Bader Quotes). These words were spoken by Douglas Bader, a World Word II hero and British pilot. The atrocities and hardships WWII presented had a lot of people wanting to give up, but Douglas Bader did not believe in giving up hope. Douglas Bader wasn t just any old pilot trying to encourage others, either. This man was faced with a very difficult challenge early on in his life, for he lost both of his legs in a flying accident (Douglas Bader 1). Even though he could have given up right then, he decided to help his country and the world in their time of need. Bader strived to help Great Britain and the Allies and became a hero for many. Douglas Bader has left a long lasting legacy that has inspired myself and many others. Through Douglas Bader s life story, involvement and heroic efforts in the war, ... A college journal reported on one of his boxing matches saying, Bader in his usual no time to spare manner went straight at his opponent and knocked him out with two very hard rights. He took about the same time as he did last year, and is a very dangerous man to meet. (Douglas Bader: Fighter, Pilot). Aside from sports, Douglas Bader seemed to be a natural at flying. After Cranwell, Bader was assigned to No. 23 Squadron at Kenley, where he flew the Gloster Gamecook. He performed in the RAF display at Hendon, in 1931, which showed his strong suit in aerobatics (Douglas Bader: Fighter, Pilot). A picture shows Bader standing with Flight Lieutenant Harry Day and Flying Officer Geoffrey Stephenson to his right in front of a plane. If so, then The Office is just the right show for you. The Office, first airing in 2005, is a comedy about employees at Dunder Mifflin, the local paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. This TV show is meant to mock a reality TV show about the daily lives of those who work in an office selling high quality paper. Cast of The Office; Rotten Tomatoes; https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_office/pictures/ This nine season show stars Steve Carell, John Krasinski, and Jenna Fischer. Popular characters include: Michael Scott, Branch Manager; Jim Halpert, paper salesman and prankster; Pam Beasley, receptionist; and Dwight Schrute, paper salesman and beat farmer. These characters, along with the many others, experience trauma in the office, love triangles, and the common nuisance of Michael Scott. The Office is a series that explores the shenanigans that can commonly occur in the office setting, except with a very exaggerated, comical twist. After he left, I did not find the show as humorous as it was when he was present. Although Andy Barnard was a great character, his humor did not come even close the level of Michael s. Having Michael Scott leave the show was a smart move for the expansion of the show; however, the show lost significant ratings due to this move. The second element that I did not enjoy was Karen. Truthfully, she was a very annoying, self centered character that was a waste of time for everyone. Luckily, she did not appear on the show for long a season at the most so it did not harm the ... Comparing Rembrandt And Eakins s Anatomy Of Dr. Tulp Introduction: Rembrandt and Eakins The similarities, and differences, between Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn s Anatomy of Dr. Tulp (1632) and Thomas Eakins The Agnew Clinic (1889) are both uncanny and unprecedented. Painted in 1630 s Amsterdam during the Dutch Baroque period, Rembrandt sought to preserve the rare occasion in which a real human body was used as an academic tool in order to prove anatomy theories. On the contrary, Eakins piece was painted in 19th century America during the realist movement to memorialize a retiring professor. However, it is their similarities that make them comparable; they were both commissioned by academic institutions, they both depict a surgery in progress, they both celebrate the careers of notable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The subject of the yearly autopsy was always a criminal who had just been executed for their crimes, and autopsies had to be performed immediately due to the time sensitive process of the decaying corpse. Rather morbid in his interpretation of the event, Rembrandt sought to reproduce the curiosity and surprise he witnessed through the use of an asymmetrical pyramid so that no face is hidden. This sort of asymmetry is characteristic of the Baroque period. There is no truer adaptation of a Baroque painting than this. During this time there were great revelations of science which catapulted further interest in the sciences. The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp portrays a scientific discovery. As Dr. Beth Harris points out and as seen in Fig. 3, Dr. Tulp s left hand is moving in a way that would show how the tendons of the dissected hand would work (Smarthistory, 2015). Additionally, Baroque period artists often sought realism in portraits, with an attention to physical details, and a focus on the dramatic including the contrast between light and shadow and the use of rich, deep colors (MindEdge 2.01). A real test of its time, this portrait is almost photo like in its adaption of realism and the physical detail exemplified through the facial expressions of the onlookers. Furthermore, Rembrandt sought to emphasize the action depicted in this portrait through by almost illuminating the corpse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. An Analysis of Personality Theory An Analysis of Personality Theory by for Everyone has a personality, of course, but until fairly recently, there were no personality theories available to help understand what factors contribute to its development. In recent years, though, personality theories such as McCrae and Costa s Big Five and Schwartz s theory of basic values have been advanced for these purposes. To gain some deeper insights into these issues, this paper presents a review of the relevant peer reviewed and scholarly literature to provide a definition of personality and an examination of theoretical approaches to studying personality. Finally, an analysis of those factors that may influence an individual s personality development is followed by a summary of the research and important findings concerning personality theory in the conclusion. Review and Analysis Definition of Personality An individual s personality is comprised of several factors, some of which may be more prominent at some times than others. The dictionary entry personality defines it as, the complex of characteristics that distinguishes an individual or a nation or group; especially the totality of an individual s behavioral and emotional characteristics (Merriam Webster, 2001, p. 1687). In this regard, Barrick and Mount (1999) advise that, Personality may to advantage be broadly analyzed into five distinguishable but separate factors, namely intellect, character, temperament, disposition and temper (p. 2). Rebel Engagement Examples Alternative Available Sources of Funding and Support Determine Rebel Engagement Understanding the relationship between state and society pre conflict crucial in determining how rebel groups decide on their level of engagement with civilians. If the RCD and M23 act as quasi state(s) in somewhere like the eastern Congo, we must again look at the relationship between state and society before the conflict began. Keller (1997) discusses how internal civil wars rely on military support and arms from across borders. Analysts have long highlighted the relevance of transboundary formations that link global regional, national, and local forces through structures, networks, and discourses that have wide ranging impact, both benign and malign (Callaghy, Kassimir Latham 2001: 5). Non state actors are able to consolidate their power through their interactions with the international and regional community (Bayart 1993). Mampilly (2011) argues that it is crucial to consider the impact of transnational actors on the behavior of rebel groups as it relates to civilian governance. These relations can bolster non state actors, including armed groups (Guyer 1994; Ferguson Gupta 2002). Zahar even argues that because insurgents view themselves as independent political entities, they work to legitimize themselves by interacting with transnational actors (2001: 60). Mampilly comments that transnational actors support rebel groups by providing them with resources that influence their ability and will to deal with civilian governance (2011: 89). Rebel groups incorporate these transnational actors into their governance systems in order to supplant or supplement their dependence on civilian support, and therefore, their own capacity to provide civilians with goods. And so in general, it is feasible to assume that help drawn from other states will have a damaging effect on civilian governance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Murder Of Scottsboro Boys In the United States in 1931, during America s Great Depression, nine African American boys faced what is now known as one of America s most tragic trails in history. These young boys were accused of raping two white girls while riding a train through Alabama. This accusation brought forth a mob of white people in the town of Scottsboro. The boys spent years on trial for this. The first trial was thought to have been the final convention, little did they know it was only the beginning. A second trial was held for the nine boys that shook the entire nation. After the second trial a third one was held after the judge suspected that the evidence was not properly examined. The nine young boys, known as The Scottsboro Boys , spent their lives in and out of a courtroom and in a cell for a crime that today is known to have never taken place. On March 31, 1931 nine boys by the names of; Charles Weems, Clarence Norris, Ozie Powell, Olen Montgomery, Eugene Williams, Willie Roberson, Haywood Patterson, Andy Wright and youngest of them all, Roy Wright rode a train heading toward Alabama, they got into a fight with a group of white men that allegedly lead them to push the white men off of the train (An American Tragedy). The train stopped at a small town where an angry mob was waiting to find a group of troubled black men. • 9. The High Dynamic Range Compression Operator 4 METHODOLOGY HDR image given as an input with radiance map I^h, f (.) is the high dynamic range compression operator computes the radiance map in a low dynamic range I^l = f (I^h). An important goal of this method is to decrease the large radiance values and increase small ones. To correctly keep the local structures, however, the monotonic mapping of radiance should be satisfied regarding each pixel s neighborhood in a small local region, similar to the global tone mapping curves monotone characteristic. Firstly, generate guidance map c according to eq (4) which indicates the area of the input HDR image that should be enhanced or compressed, then divide input HDR image into windows or blocks. Secondly, compare guidance map values in each window with threshold value. Thirdly, determine if linear or nonlinear tone mapping method applied for selected window in image. Then, if we describe the window w_i with pixel i in the center, the linear function is: I^l (j)=p_i I^h (j)+q_i , j ∈w_i (1) A simple yet complete representation has been provided that satisfy the local monotonic constraint. Control the mapping in different ways through the coefficients p_i and q_i within the local window. The value of p represents the slope of the linear function while q determines the base radiance level. The terms q and p directly control the local contrast as shown in Fig. 1. If p 1, as shown in Fig. 1a, the local contrast is enhanced, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We have almost everything we need right at our fingertips. I personally use online banking so I rarely have to step foot into a bank. I love online shopping, I can order anything that I want and have it delivered to my front door. I can even have my groceries shipped to me if I wanted to. So it s no surprise that online learning has become so popular today. I utilize both, online and on campus learning, as well as a combination of both. I have found that the convenience of having at least part of my classes online, where I can access them anytime I want, from anywhere, without mandating what time and how long I spend learning the material, fits perfectly into my busy schedule. But is it as good as the face to face learning that one receives in a classroom setting with other students engaging in conversations about a topic? Online learning allows for more flexibility for students to attend classes at their convenience and accommodates those who find it hard to attend a class on a campus. Online education is quickly becoming a popular option, though it takes a particular type of well disciplined student to be successful in an online environment. Because online courses have most, if not all, of their content delivered over the internet, the student, peer, and teacher interactions are done primarily over some form of written correspondence. • 17. Public Safety Outweigh Petitioner s First Amendment Right C. The interest of public safety outweighs Petitioner s First Amendment right to record. Petitioner s recording posed an unreasonable risk to bystanders, passing motorist, and the police, essentially creating an inherently dangerous situation. Kelly v. Borough of Carlisle, 622 F.3d 248, 262 (3d Cir. 2010). The Third Circuit has firmly recognized that traffic stops are especially fraught with danger to police officers. Id. A traffic stop always poses danger because of its unpredictable nature, but even more so, when a potential suspect is on the loose. Petitioner was a suspect for a crime of several residential break ins, which a reasonable office would assume is armed and dangerous; thus creating a heightened risk to the officers safety. Furthermore, the Petitioner was stopped on the side of a road congested with traffic. If the officers do not maintain control of the situation, any unpredictable movement could result in grave injury; therefore, the police officers acted reasonably by minimizing the unnecessary danger added by Petitioner s recording during an already dangerous situation. D. Petitioner s recording is not a matter of public interest that carried any expressive or communicative purpose. The encounter Petitioner recorded is not a matter of public interest. Although there is a broad First Amendment right to film matters of public interest, the extend of that right to film public officials have not been explicitly defined by the Supreme Court or any other ... • 20. The Prayer On Public Schools For much of the 20th Century and into the 21st, school prayer has been the focal point of an ongoing debate about the position of religion in American civilization. The question of the legality of prayer in public schools brings together a number of important notions in American government and legal philosophy. Opponents and proponents of school prayer set forth their arguments in such major constitutional issues as the separation of church and state, the right to free exercise of religion, and the respective powers of local, state, and national governments. Since hearing its first case on the issue in 1962, the United States Supreme Court has passed down at least one verdict dealing with school prayer in each consecutive decade. In result, this makes school prayer a durable and highly momentous topic in the fields of education and law. In the United States, there is a constant between people being able to pray in public or not. For the supporters of public prayer, the constitution supports their freedom of religion to be able to uplift prayers whenever they wish. For the ones who oppose public prayer, the constitution states the separation of church and state. The United States has had a moral decline since prayers were taken out of our schools. Until the early 20th Century, prayer was an accepted feature of public education. • 21. The Berlin Blockade Is The First Major International... The Berlin Blockade is said to be the first major international crises of the Cold War. The basis of this blockade was to cut of Western Allies railway, road, and canal access to the eastern side of the city. The Soviets proposed an offer to the west, in which they would drop the blockade, if newly introduced Deutschmark currency was withdrawn from West Berlin. But seeing as though if they did agree, the German society would only crumble even further, so the westerners rejected the offer. The idea of the an airlift came to mind of the western allies, as they wanted aid Berlin citizens and abolish the Soviet authority. This idea was inspired by the World War II American airlift from India, over the Himalayas, to China The Hump , to resupply the Chinese war effort. Planning and investigating were soon done by the three nations in an attempt to figure out and carry out a large scale solution. On November 30th, 1945, it was announced that there would be 23 mile wide air corridors providing passage to Berlin. Since the use of unarmed aircraft would be the transport method, the Soviets could not accuse that the cargo aircraft were a military threat, like if they were tanks or trucks. Being faced with non lethal aircraft refusing to turn around, the only way to keep the blockade impassable would be to shoot them down. The Soviets were forcibly put in a position of either shooting down unarmed humanitarian aircraft, which in turn would break their own agreements, or back down ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, Harvey s Dream exemplifies how marriage can begin to become boring and undesirable at a certain point in time. There is evidence that the dream experienced by Harvey is the most interesting topic brought up in their marriage within years. • 31. Action Potential Essay RESTING POTENTIAL Resting potential is the membrane potential when a neuron is not conducting any electrical impulse or signal. The resting potential is around 75 mV. During resting potential, the inside of the axon is negative GRADED POTENTIAL ACTION POTENTIAL Action potential is a fleeting reversal of the membrane potential, caused by changes in permeability of the plasma membrane of neuron to potassium and sodium ions causing an electrical impulse to be transmitted along the axon. When a stimulus depolarizes the membrane, a few of the voltage gated sodium channels that are found in the neuronal plasma membrane open permitting sodium ions to pass through. Since there is much greater concentration of sodium ions outside the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is called temporary hyperpolarisation. The potassium channels then close, and the sodium potassium pump begin to act again, restoring the normal/original distribution of sodium and potassium ions across the membrane, and therefore restoring the resting potential. This process takes time. THE REFRACTORY PERIOD Refractory period is the period of time during which a neuron is recovering from an action potential, and during which another action potential cannot be generated. At this period, the voltage gated sodium channels are still firmly closed (or temporary inactivated) and the membrane cannot produce an action potential, regardless of the stimulation. CONDUCTION/PROPAGATION/TRANSMISSION OF ACTION POTENTIAL An action potential at any point along an axon s plasma membrane triggers the production of an action potential in the membrane on either side of it. During the action potential, sodium ions enter a point on the axon. The temporary depolarization of the membrane where the action potential is causes a local circuit to be set between the depolarized region and the resting regions on either side of it. Sodium ions flow sideways inside the axon, away from the positively charged region towards the negatively charged regions on either side. This depolarizes these adjoining regions and so generates During the action potential, sodium ions enter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Physics Isa Introduction I have chosen to investigate a factor that affects the output of a potential divider circuit. A potential divider is resistors connected in series across a voltage source; used to obtain a desired fraction of the voltage. A resistor is a device having resistance to the passage of an electric current which affects the output voltage (Vout). The factors that I could investigate are changing the resistance of r2 and record the output (Vout), or use a light dependent resistor (LDR) and change the resistance of r2 and record the output (Vout). Theories Resistors restrict or limit the flow of current in a circuit. The ability of a material or component to resist current flow is measured in ohms. There are three main types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its value decreases with increasing incident light intensity. An LDR is made of a high resistance semi conductor. If light falling on the device is of high enough frequency, photons absorbed by the semiconductor give bound electrons enough energy to jump into the conduction band. The resulting free electron (and its hole partner) conduct electricity, thereby lowering resistance. A photoelectric device can be either intrinsic or extrinsic. In intrinsic devices, the only available electrons are in the valence band, and hence the photon must have enough energy to excite the electron across the entire bandgap. Extrinsic devices have impurities added, which have a ground state energy closer to the conduction band since the electrons don t have as far to jump, lower energy photons (i.e. longer wavelengths and lower frequencies) are sufficient to trigger the device. Two of its earliest applications were as part of smoke and fire detection systems and camera light meters. Because cadmium sulphide cells are relatively inexpensive and widely available, LDRs are used in electronic devices that need light detection capability, such as security alarms, street lamps, and clock radios. So far computers have allowed us to make it accessible for witnesses to go through and look for a suspect s picture on the screen. Computers have enabled us to be able to do DNA testing. Which now only takes the labs a short time to process, and finding criminals from cases 15+ years ago can now be charged for their actions. Simple computers are small enough to fit into mobile devices, mobile computers can be powered by small batteries. Personal computers in their various forms are icons of the Information Age and are what most people think of as computers . However, the embedded computers found in many devices from MP3 players to fighter aircraft and from toys to industrial robots are the most numerous. • 37. To A Mouse Analysis The best laid schemes o mice an men, gang aft agley. Robert Burns states this in his famous poem To a Mouse, this is believed to have influenced the title of the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The reason this line from the poem influences the novel does not seem apparent at first, but by the end of the novel it becomes clear. This novel focuses on two friends, Lennie and George who are migrant workers in the 1930 s during the great depression. They move from ranch to ranch with each other, which sets them apart from most because they have each other, while the majority of migrant workers travel alone. George is a small man who is smart and responsible, and takes care of Lennie. Lennie is a very large, strong, man, but he is very simple minded, as he is a little mentally challenged. Although Lennie seems intimidating, he is a very nice man and has the mentality of a child. The novel focuses on the dream that George and Lennie have of getting their own farm. This is a very important component of the novel, because presumably, it is the idea of George and Lennie s dream that inspired the novel s title. Steinbeck conveys the message of Robert Burns poem by showing how easily a dream or plan can be shattered. George and Lennie talk about their dream of owning a farm near the beginning of the novel, so we can assume that they have had this dream for quite some time, especially from the detail George includes when telling Lennie about it. Bismarck s foreign policy was entirely based on preserving his power and Germany s throughout Europe. After 1870 he was against the idea of expanding Germany and believed that the country was satiated. Instead, Bismarck wanted to keep the peace among European countries rather than engaging in war, therefore keeping Germany safe from attack. He planned to do this through the use of gaining european alliances which included Austria Hungary, Italy, and Russia. Believing that France would remain Germany s enemy because of the annexation of Alsace Lorraine, an action he had opposed because of the enmity it would cause, he left France isolated (Germany ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast to Bismarck, Kaiser believed that in order to keep Germany in power and prevent them from defeat he had to build and strengthen a navy as strong as, if not stronger than England s. In all, Kaiser s end goal was to make Germany the strongest country in power out of Europe, whereas Bismarck was content with having good relations with different European countries but also maintaining his own power throughout the land that he owned. Bismarck s decisions and policy effected the first World War when he used a series of conflicts to bring Germany together but also create several enemies. One of these enemies being France played a big part in World War I later because Germany took the former French territory of Alsace Lorraine. This conflict that took place during the time of Bismarck s reign gave France a motive to fight against Germany. Wilhelm on the other hand played a far bigger role in the war. Because of a quarrel amongst Serbia and Germany, he asked Austria Hungary to attack Serbia and thus pulling Britain, France, and Russia into the war ( Firstworldwar ). his aggressive tactics and need for power created many enemies and caused the German Empire to lose a lot of power leading up to the war. 2. • 39. Literary Elements In Love Medicine By Louise Erdrich Literary elements appear in all exceptional literature, they are what helps build a strong story. There are many literary elements visible in Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich. In the novel there are elements such as foreshadowing, tone, several examples of symbolism, and several major themes. In Love Medicine foreshadowing is demonstrated several times throughout the novel. In the second scene Albertine Johnson describes her family by saying, Patient Abuse. There was two ways you could think of that title. One was obvious to a nursing student, and the other was obvious to a Kashpaw (7). This tells the reader several details about Albertine and her family. First of all, it informs the reader of Albertine s schooling and how she is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One recurring symbol is June Kashpaw as Jesus Christ. The first time the author symbolizes her as Jesus occurs as she is walking home right before she dies, The snow fell deeper that Easter than it had in forty years, but June walked over it like water and came home (7). She is similar to Jesus because both of them walk on water. Another time she is symbolized as Jesus is during the chapters, Crown of Thorns and Resurrection. Even the chapter titles represent Jesus because he wore a crown of thorns and was resurrected from the dead. In Resurrection Gordie Kashpaw, June s husband, imagines June is resurrected like Jesus, and he hits her while driving. Although in reality, Gordie hits a deer, but because he has guilt for treating June badly during their time together, he imagines he hits June. Another literary element in Love Medicine is theme. Two themes from this novel are family and assimilation. The family relationships of the Kashpaws are so important and confusing in this novel. It is demonstrated by the family tree diagram in the beginning of the novel. The author would not have put the diagram there, if family is not an important. Another theme is assimilation of the Native Americans to the American culture. The family partially assimilates from its Chippewa roots to those of Western Christians. As a child Marie desires to have a life with the nuns, so she rejects her tribal heritage and assimilates. However towards the end ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Electronic Medical Record ( Emr ) Meaningful Use and its Development The electronic medical record (EMR) is the replacement of paper manual charts and is being used all across the country. As per Hebda and Czar (2013), the EMR is the building block of the electronic health record (EHR), which can be defined as a longitudinal record that includes client data, demographics, clinician notes, medications, diagnostic findings, and other essential healthcare information (p.293). The widespread use of EHR s in America is foreseeable and inevitably unavoidable, but by no means a simple and undoubtedly an effortless task to achieve. In an attempt to reduce costs in the introduction, conversion, and implementation of patient health records the government has provided regulations for meaningful use (MU) (p.280). In the attempt to improve the safety and quality of the nation s healthcare system, the government enacted the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. The HITECH Act is part of the American Reinvestment Recovery Act (ARRA), enacted on February 17, 2009, which includes many measures intended to modernize the nation s infrastructure (cdc.gov.). The HITECH Act, encourages the use of EHR s meaningful use in order to reduce the redundancy of data entry with integration and interoperability.
